What do I need to do to Root my SGH-T989?

I'm on 2.3.6...and I only tried it once...but now it hit me, you said to do it a few times....DUH!!! I didn't listen....I'll try the last one again....more than once...and let you know...
 
nope...still failing...I've done it about 20 times now....in the log, it says there's no MD5 file...should I try to use the CWM.6.0.2.7.RECOVERY instead of the openrecovery-twrp-2.4.1.0-hercules???

That last one was supposed to be for 2.3.5 so I didn't really expect it to work. I don't understand why the ones for 2.3.6 haven't worked. I guess try installing CWM.

If none of them work after that, the only option I know to try is use the Odin guide to install the latest ICS and start over.

Ok...I'm starting over again...also, when I install the ROM's....does that delete all my data? or am I safe to try any of them without losing my data? I'm going to attempt that next...lol

Maybe also try uninstalling the first su file you tried. Is there a superuser icon in your apps? Then try this file again.

Yes there is an icon there...but I don't think it installed properly...I don't remember...I'm getting ready to reflash again....I guess I'll go back in and see before I do...I'll let you know...


UPDATE: Yes, supperuser is here and I am in it...don't know what to do with it....

Installing a ROM will wipe out your apps. That's why is good back them up with Titanium. After you install a ROM and you don't like it or your tired of it, you can go to recovery and restore your backup. Its best to have a backup with root working though.

Ok...Good to know...I'll hit that hurdle next...first I want to make sure I'm rooted properly...I've updated my last post...I have superuser on here, but don't know what to do with it...lol say's no apps installed...

You don't need to do anything with it. When an app ask for superuser rights just say yes. Is Titanium working? Which superuser installed?

No, it never asked for anything...I re-flashed using the ClockworkMod file and trying to install the super user file...3.0.7, but it keeps saying "installation aborted"...don't know why?...I'll keep trying it...and the others to see if it work...unless they are bad downloads???

It might say installation aborted several times before it works. Did you try the first one again? The one in the root guide?

yes....tried it many times too....keeps saying "installation aborted"...I"m booting up to phone to see if its working...
