What features do you want on the Evo 2?

Even though the new sense looks pretty slick, I really wish it was optional at this point. It's such a heavy skin...I just watched a hands on video with the tmobile g2x and that stock android looked pretty sweet to me. I guess I'll have to keep using launcherpro..darn you htc.

I am gone for less than 24hrs and this thread blows up. It looks more like the Chernobyl effect. I won’t focus on the negative, but say “I understand” and more importantly it would take away from what is important here. I was god smacked at the last minute walking into CTIA. I think for good reason and glad there is more than one person working on making the best EVO 3D possible. Staying focused on the positive, let’s move ahead.

Sprint folks had been running around with a new hardware revision of EVO 3D and while we worked on the prototype with respect to software, we simply sent updates as software checked/matured. Sunday night, I was presented with what is now the HTC EVO 3D final rev. The one presented today and has received all the eye candy.

Our prototype had the familiar red interior, 3mp ffc, and usb/hdmi located on the bottom. I got hit with hardware rev. on Sunday night and had extensive meetings trying to push for the original prototype. I felt the original prototype was more inline with original EVO 4G. I ultimately got voted down and I hope/think for the better of it. After having extensive conversation with hardware/vendors guru’s logic did prevail.

Kickstand: Noooo! I had the same reaction at the time this was presented to me. I talked in length on this. The motive for sans kickstand was cost/weight. Because EVO 3D does have a larger battery it did require a bit of expensive engineering to perform a work around. It is and will be a corporate culture to ensure EVO 3D remains at a attractive price point to “you” the consumer. I was shocked to hear when polled, being able to let your EVO kick back was not on the "Fans" list? (Who Knew!) So, with cost/weight consideration being added to the equation a kickstand/no kickstand option had to be put on the table. (I got the "win" for a kickstand). Logic was to give the consumer the choice. Launch time there will be the option for a kickstand. Prototype is an aluminum case. The drawings look sound and expected to address stability. I can’t go into details as other vendors will be designing there own versions. I felt a reasonable compromise had to be reached to make this work and be a non issue. (Job done!)

3mp FFC: Who new there was a shortage of 3mp cmos sensors and it's in the process of being phased out! Fortunately some smart folks did there homework. In order to ensure EVO 3D will be available for mass production and in ample quantity to the consumers. The recent hardware revision required 1.3mp FFC. I had nothing to add on that, because shortages would be unacceptable. The choice was obvious.

Next, why on earth would you put a charging port on the side of EVO 3D with its improved landscape capabilities? How am I going to do anything in landscape mode with a charging port on EVO 3D side? I was right there with you on that one, this seemed like a major step back! (I was peeved) Exclusive to the EVO 3D your getting a new data port called “MHL” (Media Hot Link) Once again the h/w guys made perfect sense of this. The one sticking point and I know you guys have a thread called “We need to follow this”. Not only does this new data port have a few industry first/tricks up its sleeve. (Thx h/w gurus btw) This port from a software side, gave us a gold mine to work with here. (More later) I know we all use original EVO in landscape mode. I have my EVO 4G mounted to the windshield for navigation. I could use the one in the car, but the EVO 4G is better. Hence, while in landscape mode, I also notice how the charging port is now on its side and the stress it puts on the charging port. I mentioned before EVO 3D is going to be more at home than ever in landscape mode with window panes and “buttons” rotating 360 degrees. If you still chose portrait mode in your car. You can all be glad that we now have a beefy all in one hdmi/data/charging beefy port to plug into. I posed the question? (Supposed Smart Hardware Guys/They are!) Let’s say I am watching the entire season 8 of 24. I have two episodes left and I need to plug in to watch the grand finale? The hardware guys got me again. “Because EVO 3D operates under android 2.3 gingerbread, simply rotate EVO so the charging port is on the top side and you can charge and watch movies. I said what if, my EVO is streaming HD content to my HDTV and I need to recharge? MHL will simultaneously stream and charge at the same time. (PWND)

I know one post asked me “will the ports be on the top/bottom or the on the side.” (Paraphrasing) I most confidently responded there will be ports on the bottom like originalEVO, because logically it made sense. The prototype we been using still does have the ports located on the side. I got voted down and now you to know why. I would rather be wrong, if in the long term it means a win, and results are a better product.

The interior color change was because of cost perspective as well. Everyone has seen other HTC devices being produced with black interior now. After presentation it seemed rather moot point. I humbly said “Excellent Job”.

CTIA EVO 3D w/ new hardware revision look is running software from our prototype EVO 3D. There is no way in hell we could polish up all the software after testing on a previous prototype model. I think the powers to be wanted that way. You guys all know from experience that everything is changing right up to launch day. I predict this to be no different.

I had to bitch, it would be because of the all the work on the previous prototype with respect to the software. I/team had all the other shiat working on that prototype. I won’t go over it because nobody is going to get a win out of it and ends up being wasted energy. I will say, you can tell hardware Rev.B EVO 3D was choking on some of the 3D content.(Flickering/Parallax inconsistency/basically looking confused) This what you get changing shiat at the last minute. I/team had a flawless original prototype and with more features. The final version of EVO 3D is here. The honest work begins. Long live new EVO 3D.

Quashing the Troll vote (ROFL) I think you guys watched one to many Charlie Sheen YouTube videos. Since, Rev.B EVO 3D is sporting Rev.A EVO 3D software. I have decided on not banning you guys (-_0) I will continue to post with updates that is not covered at CTIA. If not covered at this CITA event, updates on here will include.
*DLNA
*Hulu
*Netflix
*HTCH Media Link
*NFC
*10mp Photo
*1080p 3D Movie (Avatar) Stream
*Push to Talk
*ECDMA (Enhanced, CDMA)
*HD Voice
*Integration/Migration Wimax/LTE.
*Laptop docking station via "HML Port"
*That’s just some of the stuff we have to knock out before launch.

I will like to encourage you guys to tune into the Qualcomm presentation tomorrow from 11am to 5pm at CTIA. I am sure there is going to be some bites of interests. (DRM, Netflix, etc.)

Now, Charlie Sheen is learning the true meaning of “Tigersblood” while checking out EVO 3D. I am going to order up some service to my room and then a fine scotch/cigar.
Enjoy the show!
Cheers,

So, the hardware gurus think charging on kickstand is a problem, so they move it to where - if there were a kickstand - you can't charge while kickstand in landscape.

The Thunderbolt guys are hating it.

So - your guys found out that was hated and the response wasn't get the charging port right?

Tell us again how the port being MHL makes it work so you can charge it in landscape mode, on kickstand, because that made no sense.

I wonder if we share the definition of guru.

ok I get the ports being moved a little since you could just flip the phone over and watch it, but without a kickstand your stuck holding the thing in your hands the whole time less you get some case that has it on it.

Did the Rev B have NFC onboard and that still the plan or is that being scrapped as well? "Push to talk" ???? really, thats too funny there to even start to comprehend. If they take a kickstand out and want to push for corp culture the PTT isn't something they would go and even try to put in this thing.

in the end we have Fared Adib to blam for all of this? lol

I still dont get the whole sprint changing stuff last min. You guys make the phone and slap their name on it. sprint doesn't make phones, they approve them.

@EarlyMon, While I understand the pessimism and appreciate the tone of sarcasm. (Cause, I am with you on that, I just had 3 months of Dev work down the toilet, because of the hardware executives aka "guru's") In the first paragraph I stated EVO 3D will launch with a kickstand “Option”. I am forcing them to come up with a real "choice" for the consumer mainly "US". I clearly stated it will be made of metal, durable, and must be a real "choice". The happy medium is that the "Choice" would be up to you. I fully expect this completed in one form or another to provide a real option for us a launch. It was the best and only thing to be done to allow that option be kept on the table. The Thunderbolt/EVO 4G clones are hating there charging snafu because, they are running froyo and lack the ability to rotate there screen 360 degree. EVO 3D is running Gingerbread w/Sense UI 2.0 hence you can rotate EVO 3D any direction you like! However you will need to rotate it so the charge port is pointing up. I hope that helps. Sarcasm not intended. -_0

Just as a fyi,
I will be no loner posting up dates on this thread as you graciously started an EVO 3D link. I have started what is called the "EVO 3D Oval Office" as decisions are made and software matures. Progress will be reported on there. Fare warning contradiction is to be assured and the intensity of web rags will create havoc as launch day approaches? It goes with out saying; everyone wants to be "First" with whatever information. I don't care about that. I get done with work, I sit down, use this site as a blog, and sometimes vent. I found it a form of relaxation while enjoying a glass of scotch. I started updating here when first EVO came out because it shared a passion, its tight nit, and I can update while staying under the radar. I feel EVO 3D needs open/honest/healthy debate contradiction is to be expected. I think things are getting out of hand updates will simply stop and I will not post anywhere else. I still want to encourage wish lists as CTIA proves everything can change on a dime. I feel let's move forward and have good time in until launch day. This is the last post on this thread.
Cheers,

@Sgt Slaugter, Okay one more post. This thread is dead, EVO 3D is now official. I guess it's time to move into PC mode and say whatever is announced at CTIA we be available on launch day for EVO 3D. I go one step further and ask. Did you not receive a froyo update after EVO was launched? Did we not receive a build out that included the beleaguered "BlockBuster Software" and "Swype"? Did we not receive AM updates after launch? That is my point, nothing is in stone, and it's always changing. I have to catch three hours of sleep and get up to rub bs elbows again.

Cheers,

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

This dude claimed that all of his posts had to be approved by his boss. Now he is claiming that none of them had a clue about the device they were going to be on stage announcing, even the night before the announcement? Give me a break.

Here is his first post ever on this forum, from a thread called "Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread"

Long time lurker, first time poster..I thought I was up to speed on the tech side of cellies!..I thought getting a Samsung Moment was a good choice (800mghz proc etc.) and while trying to get info on tethering my SM from this uber site. I checked out the EVO threads. (Thank Goodness!) and promptly excersised my right on the 30day Sprint return policy. (just under 3days whew!) That was March 18th and been eargly digesting all the juicy nuggets and painfully now back on a non-smartphone aka grasshopper provider (Cricket) I had 3weeks of goodness w/samsung moment and had to painfully return it, but you guys saved me two years of not being able to enjoy true technological greatness of EVO 4g. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all the great info and helpful insights.
<2/cents>
I am perfectly happy w/all the specs that sprint/HTC has provided thus far with respect to the EVO 4g just the way it is. I mean does this phone really not do anything we been asking for? I been in tech bussiness for longtime with a blue company that makes processors and it's been awhile since being this pumped about technology. I look forward to seeing the threads on EVO 4G tips and tricks when this beast hits the streets. Thanks again for saving me from a 2yr contract w/a inferrior cellie and to those that keep posting juicy tidbits you all know who you are..
Sincerly,

Enough already. The dude is a troll.

Holy crap owned. Can't believe people actually bought his BS.

but.. there are some other things that dont add up too..

before bluescreen even entered the discussion... all the leaked info said 4GB of ROM and 1GB of Ram
now on htc's website.. it says 1GB of each.

i think things are still shaking loose... and not sure what else will come to light.

OK, I have posted this before, if you go to Sprint's Evo 3D page and pull up the specs it shows 4GB internal memory and 1GB RAM.

Sprint - HTC EVO? 3D

As posted earlier from the link at Sprint's site for the Evo3d:

Sprint - HTC EVO? 3D

Look on the right side and click on the "View full specs" link.

There you will see that it is 4gb internal memory and 1gb Ram. Not sure why htc's website said that. Maybe it's just that Sprint ordered a version with more internal memory.

Look at the bright side guys, this does have FM radio! LOL

Ill be getting this on launch day. The screen and processor are good enough for me. I will be using my upgrade.

Hopefully detailed specs will have better news and benchmarks/comparisons to the Atrix will be competetive. It is rumored that Sprint will be getting the Atrix as well too.

this is where I saw the 1GB on both....

like i said...there are lots of bad info out there...still not sure what is what.

i personally give everyone the benefit of the doubt .. till i am sure 100% of the facts..

One more thing about the EVO 3D - Sprint told us there is a replacement cover that does have a kickstand, but it will be sold separately.

BlueScreen (BS), you punked everyone and you should have just walked away, instead you couldn't resist the lure of a crappy sequel and in this you have failed.

I'd say more but as president of a company, a 4 star general, a medical doctor with my own practice, and award winning rapper my time for posting is limited.

I applaud your effort BSOD. Your posts are fun to read. I work for a large HW/SW company and your posts just make me laugh. Keep em coming! Mods, please don't stop end the free soap opera!

I just read on BlueScreen's Twitter that he has been called back to active duty for missions in Libya. The cool part is that he can continue to study for his next Phd. while piloting his fighter jet and dreaming up new features for cell phones.

i was hoping they would include a second back door that has a kickstand...but will it be just as durable as the kickstand that is attached to the OG Evo? i can see a lot of "i broke my kickstand cover and sprint is short on them" posts.

well htc site did make an error when it came to the gsm radio info and released a statement it was incorrect..so maybe the memory info is also incorrect.

^^^ yes.. i know that too...

so which backs my statement... lots of bad info out there.... not sure what is up or down.. yet.

__________ stepping out of the box for a min_____________

just a thought...
what if htc/sprint is on purpose leaking bad info to create stir... talk... chat... hype...keeping it in the public eye till release. creating demand... mindshare.

the pics are good.. the device we see is the evo 3d, but everything else is smoke and mirrors.... what bluescreen said is true... other than the physical look.

or what we saw was the htc pyramid (or whatever name) for some other carriers.. with similar specs..
the real EVO 3D is what bluescreen is holding in his hand.

silly thoughts.. i know...

not necessarily silly.. those specs of that unknown device posted (dont remember if a name was in that screen shot) could have been what BS had in his possession. in my mind i figured what was announced yesterday was the official (for now) device until it is released. was pyramid or shooter codename in that screenshot? ill have search androidcentral for that post. also i read somewhere that the pyramid was going to A-mobile/Magenta or whatever theyre calling that company, but then again i do my surfing late at night so forgive me if im incorrect. :o

This statement is NOT a silly thought at all, Dan. I work in entertainment. When they say that "any press is good press"...well, for the most part, that's true. It's a caveat of any industry, especially nowadays (with the internet/blogs/social networking sites), that can lead to either good or bad results.

I'd find it odd if HTC/Sprint didn't do this. A good analogy is Sports (nowadays). With all the media outlets avaiable, especially the internet, look how many "leaked trades" or "trade rumors" are talked about, but MAJORITY don't end up happening. All of that feeds the business and feeds interest. No reason for this not to happen in the tech world as well.

on june 4.. sprint has daivd baine (what ever that magician's name was that did the echo)...

big release....

david makes the evo 3d disappear.. and replaced with Bluescreen's evo 3d...

that would blow everyone's mind .. and push all talks of apple 5 /steve jobs... to the 2nd page.
