What features do you want on the Evo 2?

Yes, I definitely agree. I see the hype for the customers on Verizon wanting an Evo like the device on their network. The Thunderbolt is undoubtedly a significantly better Evo with its specs. But Sprint customers who already have an Evo, this would NOT be a good upgrade to the flagship device IMHO. The Evo 3D that I'm hearing about may be the ticket, I'm really hoping it packs a dual core to really allow it to shine amongst the onslaught of HTC devices already announced to be released this year.
 
1. Higher res screen.
2. Larger static memory.
3. Better battery life.

Options I'd like to see:

4. 4" screen. After using my friend's iphone and of course my evo for 9 months now....4" is the sweet spot IMO.

5. Gorilla glass. Every smart phone should use this.

6. Built in option to remove sense UI. I shouldn't have to root my phone to have the basic android UI.

I've had a great time with the EVO, but round 2 must be improved. And if all it adds is idiot 3D.....well I may jump ship.

My fingers are crossed for CTIA!

2. First 4.3" 1280x720 Display or higher
3. AMOLED (would be nice and vibrant)
4. More Memory
5. More Battery Life (easily fixed with custom rom and kernel)
6. LTE and Wimax Capable (future proof it)


How about Sprint puts some pressure on Skype to make a frickin android app that has GOOD video chat?

Excellent questions.

I think either it _could_ be their new flagship or that Nexus S 4G will be.

We'll know for sure on March 22, but those were two they wanted to get the advance buzz on, so I'm guessing they're the front runners.

I think both phones suggest that Sprint has had enough of update complaints. The Evo's been well-cared for, and if that other is truly a Nexus-type then that would suggest that updates fall to Google+user.

I'd further speculate that that Evo 3D will be either mega-beast or dog - dog being a little niche 3D phone with Evo branding or mega-beast being the Evo 2 with 3D. I'll be dumb- and numb-founded if it falls into a middle ground.

Depending on the March 22 announcement - either this thread or http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g/289581-there-ever-going-upgraded-evo.html may be destined for our history books. :) ;)

If the new Evo comes out (as in - c'mon, new Evo) then even if it's not _our_ Evo 2, it will be the Evo 2, so we'll need to shift the dialog to Evo 3.

Maybe a new thread or just a re-titling of this one or that will be in order.

In any case, I'm intrigued by the speculation that an Evo 3D will be a 2-core phone - in that case I'll be watching it closely even though I don't care about 3D.

A 3D sense could be mighty nice tho - many of us have seen simulated 3D interfaces before and I think they've looked very appealing.
 
I'm not big into the whole 3D movement, but if it provides an added element to increase functionality / efficiency, I'm all for it. Nontheless, it'll be interesting to see what comes out. I'm in no rush to upgrade my EVO, but if there's something that is a "must have," I'll likely upgrade. We'll see.
 
I'm likely to drive my Evo until the wheels fall off - and in a physically imperfect world, one never knows when that will be - so I'm following this with interest. :) ;)

In what possible way could a smaller screen be an improvement?

BTW I saw somewhere that the 3D EVO might be Sprint's version of the LG 4.3" 3D phone that will be coming out. No reason it has to be HTC, just like not all Droid branded phones are the same manufacturer. That phone looks fine except the resolution isn't increased. Samsung OTOH has a 4.3" 3D phone that is Super Amoled + with higher resolution.

I'll agree with every thing but the screen, going down in size will cost a lot of sales. If anything they should up to 4.5 at least, 5 would be even better.

I agree, EarlyMon. Right now, I'm likely to run my Evo into the ground...but, considering how fast technology has been moving nowadays, I'll be paying close attention to what happens in the near future.

Going along those lines, has anybody seen the Best Buy "Buy Back" program commercial where a guy has his 3D TV delivered, only to see a truck pull up saying, "Get your new 4D TV today!"...Hahaha, the guy has this befuddled look on his face and his little girl is riding her bicycle around and keeps saying, "you bought the wrong TV!"...Just thought it was so appropriate for how often people feel the need to upgrade nowadays.

One of the big things we all seem to want on our next-gen phones is performance.

If true that high performance is a requirement for 3D capability, then we all benefit from it, even if 3D doesn't really interest each of us.

Just speculating on a blustery and very windy afternoon. :)

PPS - I went back and searched because it seemed to me that 3D had come up before - first mention was this post, followed by a _really_ prophetic post. Seriously, somebuddy should be given a free HTC View just for being able to guess right 2 out of 3 times.

A little OT, but Qik has been updated and all of the sound issues have been resolved. It works great on 3G and Wi-Fi. The only catch is that the update isn't available through the Market. Just email support@qik.com and request the unreleased update. They'll send you the .apk within a day. No need to wish for better video chat when it already works well right now...

3. Higher Res and Gorilla Glass
4. Built in antenna for FM Radio
5. Separate LED's for notification and Charging
6. Better Battery Life

Really, just a beefier Evo with a few tweaks. If I had to limit myself to just 3, I'd take the built in antenna, Separate LED's and better battery life. I can live without the rest, and even live without those 3...

It only works on devices that it is meant to work on though, and that is after you sign in with a valid account...

What do you think the odds are that we'll see some Atrix style docks with some sort of Atrix style desktop mode for one of these new Sprint phones? Aside from the bump in specs (dual core, more RAM, etc) that is probably the feature I am hoping for the most.
 
I'm not really sure. Unless / until they bring prices for that sort of thing down, I don't think we'll know.

Consider that ATT first priced the Atrix dock at $500 - then compare what you can do with an Asus EEE notepad and Android-x86 - Porting Android to x86

Or consider that the iPad 2 entry price of 500 smackers has been a wake-up call to Samsung's pricing on their tablet (competition is good).

I think the intriguing thing about the Evo 3D is that they might - and I'm totally making this up, right now - might enable more out of the HDMI (assuming it has one) than we're offered now, especially as 3D HDTVs seem ubiquitous right now.

If true, then I'd be surprised if some smart pup doesn't provide a hack to make it dock-able in the event that a dock isn't on the horizon.

The pricing on those docks is strictly AT&T greed. Lets Talk was selling the phone with the dock as a bundle for $250.
LetsTalk goes out in a blaze of glory, sells Atrix 4G and Laptop Dock bundle for $250 as AT&T partnership ends -- Engadget

Of course AT&T put a stop to that, but at least we know it doesn't have to be expensive.
