What happened if there's another mass extinction?

Well, dinos ruled the world for 200 million years. We humans have only been around for 200,000 years and in our modern form for 50,000 years. I am planning for at least 100 million years in the future. You would not believe the amount of canned beans I have stored away for this. So many women out there who said they wouldn't sleep with me if I was the last guy on earth. I plan to test that.

But on an All Bean Diet, they might be right. Just think, with all those canned beans, you will likely be the biggest contributor to Bean House Gas Emissions. Way to ruin a world, thanks a bunch!

It's always seemed like a dream come true... being the last man on earth that is. But I guess I never really thought things out very far. Like, I never thought about the fact that the earth would now be ruled by women. I sorta doubt I'd have it made by any means being the only guy running around. All those women who'd been ****ed over, cheated on, and taken advantage of by men... I'd be the only one they could turn to in order to... seek their revenge on the male species. Car design would go WAY down hill!!! No more Ferrari's or McLaren supercars... just 60 mpg, 50 mph station wagons. And sports would REALLY suck!

Yeah, screw that dream!

My guess is that..... no there wouldn't be. Have you ever put much thought into how you would ever become the last man on earth? More than likely it would be because women found a way to reproduce without needing a man. Then they proceeded to kill off every man on the planet. And the only way you survived was because you fell asleep on the toilet in a mens room somewhere while the men-ocide took place.

So once you got off the toilet and reentered the world only to find out you were enemy number 1... you'd probably spend the rest of your days hiding in caves, not making sweet, sweet, snoo snoo. :(
 
I might be wrong, but I believe big animals are/were going extinct right now/recently.

Or maybe that's just because we notice it more when big animals are gone. :p

I'll have an answer for you in 21 months! I have recently noticed the population levels of wives who don't nag dwindling though. Although the flipside is that the ones who do nag will probably see their population reduced too if they don't stop...

nature is all about balance.

google Charles Hapgood's earth crust displacement theory along with the Piri Reis map. Find out when something like that could have occurred last, then find out when the next set of circumstances that brought it about are due to happen. ;)
 
I suspect it would take quite an event to kill all the humans. I imagine no matter what happens enough of us will survive in pockets here and there to keep us on top for the time being. Anything that would kill off every human on the planet would also take out most if not all of the higher order animals. So what would replace us as the dominant species is anyone's guess. Probably something we wouldn't expect because it would all depend on what managed to survive and how.

I would suspect a mass die off will occur soon. Throughout history man's numbers have been thinned by various natural diseases.

Very much like the wave of movies of a few years back that depicted deadly viruses spreading.

We've been really good as a species of holding that off and increasing life span for generations now with antibiotics and drug therapies. But somewhere out there, right now, a virus is changing it's DNA and adapting to these miracle drugs. It's low level survival is all.

Once a new superbug comes along that is virulent enough, we'll see about 60% or more of the human population wiped out. Something like super Ebola.

I could of course be wrong...but it seems to be the course of nature and they say nature is a creature of habit. Besides, if nature doesn't do it, some idiots in a lab somewhere will.
 
Once the idiots in the middle east get their hands on nuclear weapons, it'll be all over. Those people honestly don't give a shit if every man, woman and child dies for their cause. They will destroy the earth as we know it. Then cockroaches will rule the world.

Really, once we developed nuclear weapons... it became a matter of time. There really is no 'if', just 'when'.

I disagree. It would be hell to be sure, but we will retaliate and the world will continue.

The crazies would like to use the bomb against us; they would also love to use biologicals, as well, but I would like to think that if such attacks were tied to a particular country, we load our best bombers with FAE devices and simply end the entire country.

My fear is some world leaders, maniacs in charge, insane despots, and other hell bound wackos think we are weak and scared to do anything about an attack. So it is slightly more likely that we would be attacked now, with Obama in charge. Elect a strong pro-American president and they might step back and think what could happen if they use atomic weapons against us.

The problem with MAD is that there are leaders out there who don't care if they get bombed back to the stone age. There are certainly terrorist groups out there who don't care.
