Under the battery door, to the right of the camera lense, there is a little rubber cover. If you remove it, you see two little brass-colored connectors. What is that for? External antenna? Seems like a kind of inconvenient place if that's what it is. Anyone know?

Don't know for sure, but here is an image (upside down) showing those ports or connectors:

Maybe test / reset ports? You can see the connections these ports make with the other parts of the phone.

Cool!
Not only did it give me a picture of the wiring of these ports, but it also made me aware of the fact that replacing my screen can be done easily and cheaply, if I ever need to. Bonus! :)

I zoomed in and focused on the port area, and circled the ports.
The black thing underneath is the headphone jack I believe. Not sure about the little squares to the left. Light sensors? LED's?

Right! Because if it were just a couple of ports on the circuit board, you wouldn't think twice about it. But since HTC went to all the trouble of making a little rubber cover for them, for easy access, it's gotta be something useful.

I wonder if maybe that is how they program a bricked phone?
