What ROM Should I use?

I read through a lot of those. Don't get me wrong MIUI is a nice Rom for a lot of people. I'm just not one of those people.

I guess the big thing for me is the look of it. I like that it's a unique beast, but I grow to miss some things that Android OS has. By adding those things I take away the unique look of MIUI.

So I figure if I'm going to do that I might as well just go with something that's Android based in the first place.

I think you're misusing terms here. MIUI is Android. If you don't like something about MIUI, you can change it the same as with any other ROM (i.e. launcher, theme, sounds, tweaks, etc.).

The system level of MIUI is actually CM7 based. The biggest difference is MIUI has a complete overhaul of the frameworks. Don't get me wrong, I like CM7 (which looks basically like stock GB 2.3), but I guess it's the exclusive factor that attracted me to MIUI. It's a good ROM, but it's kind of cool that not many devices can run it, but we can. Furthermore, MIUI is the first ROM I've seen that really "reinvented" the Android user-interface. Unfortunately, they went with iOS inspired look. However, a good looking ROM is a good looking ROM.

That said, CM7 will always be special to me.

I probably am. Sometimes I'm not nearly as eloquent typing as I am in person :/

I get that it's android (and CM7 based) but as you said it's very iOS inspired. While that is nice for every now and then it's not something I'm overly fond of. I miss the launcher, and themes of a standard Android rom. While I know I can add those things once I do it stops being a unique look. To me at that point the Rom has lost what made it special.

Then again maybe I'm just a picky nut who doesn't appreciate what makes the Rom so special to so many lol.

At any rate they are both amazing Roms, and it's wonderful that we got such stable versions so quickly on a phone that isn't extraordinarily popular.

Great devs are great.

Recently switched to the Triumph from the Optimus V and I'm on CM7 since I was on IHO CM7 with my last phone. At first I was worried about bugs on the phone, but it looks like they have been fixed for the most part, and battery life on CM7 B.06 seems good so far. So I am happy with CM7, but curiosity will get the best of me and I will be trying out the other roms as well.

I voted stock originally but then I've used to MIUI for few days. Loved the feel and usability of the ROM but I did get few weird scrambled screens with no choice but to shut down or take out the battery. There're also quite few things not working with Tasker also, the ones I've tried are tts text message, notification click detection, and volume change on incoming call.

So I switched to CM7 to give it a try. It's been a day now and I'm pretty happy with it and have none of the above issues. Seems like a fast and solid ROM, especially for a beta. The battery life is an improvement from MIUI with their latest release. For standby with 3G, Autosync, Background data on it draws about ~2.5% per hour vs 3.5-4% on MIUI, and the gesture based app launching at lock screen is just awesome! I do miss the drop down toggle layout & built-in individual app lock from MIUI though, and the theme flexibility is a plus, but not a necessity.

So after trying out those 3 ROMs, I'm going to stay with CM7 for now. IMO both CM7 & MIUI are vast improvement over the stock ROM even in their current beta releases. CM7 just seems slightly more stable and bug free than MIUI. When paired with Tasker, it makes such a lean, powerful & customizable phone.

If I didnt have iPod touch I probably would have gone with miui, but since I do I will stay cm7.

What does having an iPod touch have anything to do with this? *Scratches head* I have one too.

If you are saying because of how Miui looks, This can be easily modified with a launcher.

Though I happen to find it visually appealing, I do miss a few things from Cm7, Though for the life of me can't remember what right now.

MIUI is like the child of apple & android. It has the aesthetic of apple's design and flexibility of android. which is kinda awesome. However, since the MIUI ROM did some extensive framework changes to Android, probably many things underneath UI work slightly different than what a stock Android OS. So if you're using app like Tasker that deals with some fundamental functions of the phone and it expects default setting of a stock Android, it might or might not work. I searched the web for a bit and found many people using MIUI have things stopped working in Tasker.

let me help you :) there're quite few of them actually. but the ones I personally find wonderful are gesture unlock to launch app, performance tweak, read out your Google Voice or regular text message for you when you're in the car(through tasker)... ok so the last doesn't strictly count, although it's not really doable through MIUI nevertheless. oh and one more, more stable... :D

p.s. does the poll not allow change after initial selection?

The whole experience of miui is very similar to iOS, I love minuit but for now I am sticking with cm7

Okay so today I decide to flash Cm7 again. First unlock I got that annoying screen "Flicker" that I hate. The one I just realized hasn't shown it's ugly face since I'd started using Miui.

Long story short; I'm back on Miui. =] What can I say? I like it....

MIUI! Pretty and fast! Too much fun to theme, and I'm addicted to coding the lockscreens. I hate the launcher, though - I use same ol ADW and I'm a happy camper. Love the ability to change the various UI's in the snap of a finger. Nice to have the GAPPS on board. LOVE the music player.

CM7 rocks compared to stock, but since my main deal is theming, not nearly as accessible or easy to totally change everything on a dime. Also had slower 3G speeds than on MIUI, don't ask me why, could've just been the week I was trying it and area coverage shifts...again. Would try again if I were told it got even cooler.

I liked that gapps came included too! I was quite thrilled with the options, I opted to leave the launcher as the "Semi-Apple" look intrigued me.

I also have slower data speeds. For some reason I also show that I've got less of a signal.

I think Miui is evolving into a new era for android. I like it! ^_^

I'm in CM now but the few times that I tried MIUI I immediately installed GoLauncher...the default MIUI theme/Launcher is my least fave feature of the ROM.
