What Tasker profiles is everyone using?? (This thread is NOT for requesting help with profiles)

It may take a long time to recognize a location if you do not enter that location with GPS enabled. You may find better responsiveness if you have the GPS turned on during your drive to the gym (also, change your gym profile to include a task that turns GPS off when you get there).

Probably not the best way to do this...

For the location, use: "state > cell near" then let it scan local cell towers. Tasker automatically checks the cell tower location, every 30 seconds (it doesn't even TOUCH the battery, though it checks so much).

[/B]Thanks I will look into that. I was trying not to add another app but to do it all with tasker.

There is probably a way to do it with Tasker, but I have used this app on my daughters phone for a long time so it always rings when I call. Plus it is a great developer (he also made and maintains superuser)

Headphones plugged in - Vibrate mode, media volume changes to 5 (to protect ears), display turns on (so I can quickly proceed to the media I was going to), auto-brightness turns on (for when I'm going outside and my normally dim display makes it hard to change songs)

....on exit - media volume changes to 0 and auto-brightness turns off

Incoming Call - In call volume goes to the max

....on exit - media volume changes to 0 (for when I was playing music and forget - the music continues to play, but doesn't blast when I hang up the call)

Received text - display turns on

App (Call confirm) - (on exit) - in call volumes goes to the max

Gmail notification - display turns on

USB Plugged in - display turns on, widgetlocker unlocks, status bar expands (to quickly access sd mounting - my default usb connection is "charge-only"), and after 10 seconds the status bar collapses again (in situations when I'm not sd mounting) and my device locks (widgetlocker)

Calendar notification - display turns on

App (Clock) - Load app (alarm clock plus) (so I can use the stock HTC clock/weather widget, hit the time and go to the alarm clock of my choice)

App (gallery) - load app (quickpic) (so I can go to the picture app of my choice when in the camera)

device shutdown - silent mode on (to silence boot sounds)

I've tried doing a calender notification display on profile myself, but it doesn't seem to be working. Can you share yours?

I have it set up and it is working great with one exception: I want a sound and blink the notification light. I can't get both to work at the same time, just which ever one is listed first. Anyone know how to do both?

Just didn't want this question to get lost if someone has an answer...

Also, if I use a profile to change my wallpaper, what happens when that profile exits? Does the wallpaper remain or does it revert back to the wallpaper that was set before the profile became active?

I don't think I can answer your first question (I will try to figure out a solution for you).

For your second one: I believe it will remain with the wallpaper that it last was set to (as in, if it changes from Wallpaper1 to Wallpaper2 and you exit\end the profile, it should just stay on Wallpaper2)

I have been working on something similar and am trying to figure this out as well. I'll let you know if I get it, or if you find the answer first, let us know.

As for your second question, I have a work profile set up that changes the wallpaper to one that won't offend the female coworkers, and when it exits it always changes the wallpaper back.

Are you talking about the GPS identifying where you are?
Not just that. I am trying to setup my 'wheres my droid' profile to find my phone when it's lost. So I want it to (in basic terms) turn on GPS (done), find my fine location (done), run that location against google maps (done), and return the address of my phone (not there yet). So what I want is for it to get my street address and return it to me.

Probably not the best way to do this...

For the location, use: "state > cell near" then let it scan local cell towers. Tasker automatically checks the cell tower location, every 30 seconds (it doesn't even TOUCH the battery, though it checks so much).
I need the fine location, and no worries about the battery... the profile turns the GPS back off after it finds its location.

Sure.

New > event > UI > Notification > On the "owner application" line, click the colorful thing to the right and it will bring up all of your applications > select calendar > done

From here....select new task > display > turn on

You should be good to go.

Hey guys, new on here after Apple for a few years then a brief spell on WP7 im now on a Galaxy S trying to get my head round Andoid but enjoying it :D

Ive finally got my lockscreen how i want using Tasker widgets, Widget locker and TypoClock.

Anyway onto tasker i really couldnt work out the best way to activate each profile by location as i didnt want to leave gps on all the time so instead ive made 4 manual profiles which have widget shortcuts on the lock screen so they can easily be pressed which are working a treat

Home
Turn wifi on, turn 3g data off, set volume of ringer and notifications too 6 and alarm.

Work
Turn wifi off, turn 3g data on, set set volume of ringer and notifications too 2.

Out (when im out and about)
Turn wifi off, turn 3g data on, set set volume of ringer and notifications too 7.

Night
(mainly used for when i stay over at the missus's and dont plu my phone into charge)
Turn wifi off, turn 3g data off, set volume set volume of ringer and notifications too 0, set alarm vol too 3.

I know these are very basic but they work a treat for me and also look really good on the lock screen :D

As for your second question, I have a work profile set up that changes the wallpaper to one that won't offend the female coworkers, and when it exits it always changes the wallpaper back.

Thanks, that is exactly what I am looking to do. I already have a work profile that puts my phone on silent, I just didn't want to have to reset my wallpaper myself everytime I leave work

Sure.

AH. I see. I just had the context set to Calender Entry. Which didn't work, since I was trying to get it to turn on for ALL of them, not just one. Thank you!

Actually, here's another question.

I know people have some profiles set where only certain phone calls will audibly sound during silent mode (which I don't know how to do), but what about instead of ringing, having the phone say "(name of caller) is calling"? I have profiles set to silent during my classes; would I be creating a whole new profile just to handle those particular calls I want to go through?

is it possible to allow only Gmail and Gtalk apps to receive/send data when on roaming ?

help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

I see what is posted above but I need it simplified a little.

I have a bed time profile that is only active when plugged in, I have a loud one that is always active, and a 3rd one a work one that is active M-F from 8am-4:30 PM. I want them all off when the bed one is active, I want the timed one to overide the other 2 and then go back to loud one once done.

In the bed profile, add the following tasks:
Tasker > Profile Status > *name of work profile* > Set: OFF
Tasker > Profile Status > *name of loud profile* > Set: OFF

Then either add an exit task, which you then set to turn those profiles ON, or you can add a "Wait" or "Wait Until" task, and have them turn on at a certain time.

I have it set up and it is working great with one exception: I want a sound and blink the notification light. I can't get both to work at the same time, just which ever one is listed first. Anyone know how to do both?

I haven't had any trouble with this... Just ran a test task, and it worked fine. I put the "Notify LED" first, then the "Notify Sound" second, and they both worked fine...

And Tasker loves you. Thanks for all the good ideas, help.

No problem!

Anyone have a way to have a blue LED come up with a new email being recived from gmail?

This will depend on what phone you have. I also believe that if your phone is capable of having different LED lights, you should be able to do this within the GMAIL app. (I have a Thunderbolt, which only has a 1 color LED, so I can't see if this option is available - but I believe this is how it was on my Droid X)

I also don't believe there is a way for Tasker to read\find\notice any unread e-mails...

  • Battery Level : Adjusts random settings, depending on my battery level.
  • Block Calls : When certain numbers call, tasker will answer\end the call (So it will stop ringing, and they won't get to my voicemail)
  • Block Work Calls : When my work calls me (to ask if I can come in), I let it ring for 5 seconds before hanging up (5 seconds, so I have time to decide if I want to answer - and it does not send the call to voicemail).
  • Change Wallpaper Based on Weather : Cool new profile I made today. It checks Accuweather, and when it sees certain keywords ("Rain" "Cloudy" "Sunny" "Clear") it will change my wallpaper, accordingly.
  • Church : Silences my phone, makes my display not time-out, and opens my Bible app -- (Based on calendar events)
  • School : Silences my phone during school (Based on calendar events)
  • Find Phone (GPS) : When I text my phone a keyword, it will respond with the GPS coordinates, battery level, etc.
  • Find Phone (GPS) P2 : When I text my phone another keyword (when my phone is stolen), it will play an alarm, lock the phone, will end any current calls, and will also leave the GPS on (so I can keep tracking it).
  • Find Phone (Ring) : This is for when I lose my phone at home. I text it, it will play a ringtone.
  • Face Down Silent : This is for the "Find Phone (Ring)" profile. When I find the phone, I just flip it over to turn off the ringtone\song
  • GPS Turned On : Turns on the GPS when certain apps are opened
  • Incoming Call Brightness : Turns my brightness to MAX, for 15 seconds. (Pointless)
  • Charging : Random settings for when I am charging my phone
  • Wifi Starter\Stopper : Two profiles that will turn on\of and connect wifi, accordingly (by determining my location via my network connection\location) (this has been combined with my "Home" profile)

Added on 04/09/11

  • Work : When Tasker sees that my calendar says I am at work (this is easy to do because I have a part-time job, so I always post my shifts on my calendar), it will put my phone on vibrate - and force WiFi off, and will also lock my screen.

Added on 04/13/11

  • Home : When I am home (It determines this by using my location, via the network connection) it will turn my volumes up. After 11pm, when the home profile is active, it will turn my phone to vibrate. [new: it also turns on my WiFi]
  • Change Wallpaper - Timed : I have a set of 5 wallpapers (they are the same wallpapers, just different color), and they change\alternate every 20 minutes.
  • Alarm : I have uninstalled Gentle Alarm, and replaced it with Tasker. Self explanatory profile. (*Altered this profile, so that it will only trigger if the phone is charging (I periodically will get up before the alarm will go off, and unplug the phone - forgetting that the alarm is still set*) (Rather dodgy when it came to actually triggering - missed a class due to the alarm\profile not sounding\activating. I am now using the stock HTC clock\alarm app)
  • Silent Boot : This profile will silence my phone prior to turning off or restarting, which then silences the annoyingly loud boot-animation.

Added on 04/14/11

  • Reminder - Trash : At 9pm every Wednesday night(repeating every 15 minutes) IF my "Home" profile is active, I get a pop-up reminding me to take out the trash. The pop-up also gives me an option to end the reminders if I have taken the trash out.
  • Airplane Mode : If my cell signal drops too low, airplane mode will be triggered. Every 7 minutes, the profile will stop - if there is still low signal, the profile will be reactivated. (I am having a hard time getting this to work... It seems to randomly activate, even though my signal-strength variable context, is set to only activate when my signal drops below 25% - I will have a few bars of 4G, and this profile will activate)
  • Headset : I finally got around to making this basic profile, that will open a menu containing Amazon MP3 (I have my music in the cloud) and Pandora, whenever I connect a headset.

Added on 04/15/11

  • Applications - Games : When I launch any\all games, my media volume is set to 4 (what I almost ALWAYS set it to) (got rather annoying, and wasn't very useful)
  • Applications - Games Night : When I launch any\all games between 11pm and 9am, the media volume is 0
  • Applications - Music : When I launch any\all music playing applications, the media volume sets itself to 12
  • Applications - Video : When I launch any\all video playing applications, the media volume sets itself to 9 - and autobrightness is forced.
  • Charging - Home Night : When charging my phone at home (determined by "cell near"), from 12:30am-8:30am (basically when I am sleeping): all sounds are silenced, brightness is brought down, and auto-rotation is turned off (If I look at my phone while in bed, and while it's charging, the screen-rotation is always wacky)
  • Charging - Not Home : When I am charging my phone NOT at home (determined by invert of "cell near"), all of my volumes are turned up (If I am not charging my phone at home, it will usually be charging somewhere AWAY from me - so I need the volumes up)
  • Grandparent's : When I am at one of my grandparent's house (determined by "cell near"), the phone connects to their WiFi, and my ringer/notification/media volumes gets adjusted.
  • Grandparent's Night : Same as above, just the volumes are on silent\vibrate
  • Grandparent's (2) : When I am at my other grandparent's house (determined by "cell near"), the phone connects to their WiFi, and my ringer/notification/media volumes gets adjusted.
  • Grandparent's Night (2) : Same as above, just the volumes are on silent\vibrate.

I love Tasker.

Updated my list (crossed out the profiles I no longer have\use, including my reasoning to ending their life).
Also should add\ask: My wallpaper changing profile (based on time, rather than weather) seems to randomly give me a solid black background.
It isn't like it just misses\fails at setting the next wallpaper, because on my lock screen the appropriate wallpaper is displayed, but when I unlock the phone and go to the homescreens - my wallpaper is black\nonexistent. Is this a problem with Tasker? Or is it my phone?

As for your second question, I have a work profile set up that changes the wallpaper to one that won't offend the female coworkers, and when it exits it always changes the wallpaper back.

Tested it for a couple days and works great :D

Hi Tumeg,

Couple of questions about the above profiles
  1. I tried making my own silent boot mode, which I used two profiles for.
    • The first one was the shutdown profile, which has:
      CONTEXT - Device Shutdown
TASK - Silent (Vibrate) [could also use Silent (No Vibrate), wouldn't make much of a difference, although thinking about it, Silent (No Vibrate) might eliminate the phone's tendancy to vibrate 10 seconds after switching it off].

However, this doesn't seem to work. The phone (Samsung Galaxy S) still makes its turn-off noise when you turn it off. However, when I turn the phone back on, the phone is THEN in silent mode. Do I need the context to occur at some event before turn-off? Or is it a problem with the handset itself? What do you use, Tumeg?

    • The second one was the boot-up profile, which has:
      CONTEXT - Device Boot
      TASK - Silent (End)

This works fine. It takes a while to activate (a minute after boot-up), but after that, I'm not on silent anymore
  2. Can you sync tasker with a To-Do List app? That'd be awesome!!

One more question:
  • I'd like to create an alarm using Tasker similar to the one found here. The standard tasker alarm found at the link works fine. However, I'd like to tweak it so that the snooze interval changes each time, choosing from a random time interval between 1 minute and 1 hour. Does Tasker have random number generators? Also, any chance of choosing a random track from my music library each time?

Thanks,

God bless =)
