If you want to think of your PC as a Corvette, fine. I think the analogy still pretty much holds true. The Vette is all about flashy specs and pure power, whereas the Mercedes focuses upon the entire driving experience -- not just performance from a "how quickly can I get you from point A to point B standpoint," but also performance in terms of ergonomics, interaction with the driver, creature comforts, etc.
Moreover, I tend to think of guys driving Vettes (new ones, anyway) as overcompensating for other shortcomings, so perhaps your analogy is more apropos than you even thought.
I do have an experience from a few minutes ago that I have to share that highlights why Apple customers can be so fiercely loyal. I have an Airport Extreme Base Station (wireless router for those unfamiliar with it). Long story short, I needed to take it in for service at the Apple store, and this exchange followed:
-Him: What's the problem?
-Me: [I explain the problem]
-Him: Well, let's see if we can get it working so you don't have to buy another one.
-Me: Huh? The gal one the phone said it was covered under the Applecare on my MacBook
-Him: Well, she's wrong, it expired in 2009, but we'll honor it if that's what she told you. Let's see if we can get it working, though.
A couple of minutes pass, it's up and running
-Him: There you go
-Me: Would you mind surfing around a bit? I've had it up a number of times over the last day or so, and it loses the connection after a minute or so.
We confirm it is holding the connection
-Him: If it will make you more comfortable, I can just give you a new one.
-Me: Well thanks, but that's not necessary if it's working
-Him: Whatever you like. It's really not a big deal.
-Me: I appreciate it, but this is fine, really.
-Him: Well, you can have a brand new one if you'd like, just to be sure. I'd take it if I were you, so you don't have to mess with it if it acts up again.
-Me: OK, you talked me into it.
So that's how it ended. I get a brand-spanking new Airport Base Station, notwithstanding that the one that I brought in was out of warranty and working fine by the time I was leaving the store. Bonkers from a customer service standpoint. Very few companies in ANY industry would have done that, in my experience.
