What was the first mobile phone you had and how old were you?

Motorola Microtac - use as a paperweight if needed!!!
I was about 23. It hailed the introduction of the "flipphone".

Originally advertised as "indestructible" - Kid plays with his father's phone and watches in horror as it bounces down the stairs. No need to worry - it's a Motorola MicroTac; can take all the hard knocks.

And it did - the number of times I dropped this brick and it kept going like the Duracell Bunny was amazing. :O

this was mine!

It was branded Austin Rover and was available through their accessories catalogue! I was 18 running a disco (around 1989) - I remember leaning out of my mates bedroom window upstairs (reception wasn't great back then) and dropping it on the floor 1 storey down - only broke the battery clip!!!

Did that now and the modern phone would disintegrate!!!

It was the Motorola "flip" phone, the first one on orange. Orange had the Nokia 2110 and this Motorola. Can't remember the model. Cost a fortune. Later swapped for the Nokia, or the other way around, can't remember. It was about 18 years ago.

Mine was the Nokia 101, and i still have it (not in use obviously!!), although it's probably more use as a door stop, and i believe it was 1993 (trying to remember which car i had it in...)

The first one I owned was a Motorola Flair, from when GSM was launched in about 1996:confused: The earliest ones I used were things like the Motorola 4500x, the extended life battery for that was basically a car battery in a box! There was a phone in a briefcase, complete with extending car type aerial, a proper push button dial pad and a full sized handset but I have no idea what make it was. Yes, I am that old

About 12 and it was the M520:

Absolute piece of crap, the wiring in the sliding mechanism wasn't strong enough and I kept getting white screens.

Then I got my dad's old phone, the a900:

Now, quite a few months later, I will be getting my EVO on Friday as my 14th birthday present:

First cell phone I owned was a boost mobile i-215. The oldest crappiest phone I ever had. I was only 16, I think. But wow, how evolved that phones have came since then.

The first true mobile phone I guess would be the Moto StarTac in 1996. But before that I did have a car mounted unit that was a moto. Just can not remember what it was. And that would have gone back to around 1993. Sold that car in 1994 and did not have a phone again until the StarTac. It was such a cool phone to have being a flip phone then. I would have been 23 with the first phone.
