Actually, we don't even know that for sure. Everyone thought that K was gonna be Key Lime Pie, then they announced KitKat. For all we know, L could be Lemon Head or llama...

We know the next "major" one will start with an L. Whether the next one will be "major" or not is anyone's guess

The next version upgrade is likely to be at google I/O in late spring/early summer. Version numbers, features, or names is nothing more than rumor at this point.

They haven't done pie yet, since 4.4 was surprise-renamed KitKat pretty late in the game.

No money changed hands on the KitKat branding thing - at least not officially:

At any rate, Phandroid's Rob Jackson seems to think Lollipop is most likely, and I tend to agree with him. I guess we'll find out in a few months!
