Help Whats a good reason to Keep "enable always on mobile data"

It has not affected my google voice notifications in any way that I can tell. Still get responses and receive texts as fast as before disabling the option.

TWC widget works with it unchecked, i still get severe weather warnings and the widget has updated weather

I must say, I tried this today, with moderate use - and still have a little under 50% battery left. And I haven't noticed any issues for the apps I use. Great tip!

Where are you guys getting all the percentages of battery life left? Are you installing an app for this?

Thanks.

I too have noted that with the setting disabled Pandora stops playing (and searches) after a relatively short time. I have not tried it yet with Google Voice and/or GMAIL app but based on the feedback here- doesn't seem to matter.

Ok, so I am noticing now that if I let the phone go to sleep for more than 10 minutes or so, with this feature disabled, I'm not getting exchange or gmail notifications. Under about 10 minutes, it's fine - but nothing after that. When I enable it, notifications always come through.

I have found it to vastly improve my battery life without any adverse effects to the stock applications by shutting this off.

Ditto. Since turning it off I'm unplugged for 14 hours and sitting at 76% battery remaining. Haven't noticed any difference in phone performance.

is it possible that with it off the phone only checks occasionally instead of constantly? im checking this now myself, and has been 6 minutes since i sent myself an email and hasnt come thru yet

im at work so messing with it between tasks

first round appeared that the gmail didnt go thru til the phone was woke up, but it was also on vibrate so i could have missed it when i was taking a call or doing something

second round i turned the ringer back on and had a friend text me after 30 minutes and the text went thru after a few seconds, i then sent myself an email and it took about 10 minutes to go thru

so, maybe with it off it only checks intermittenly ? will try more again later

I've noticed exchange doesn't update unless something else, is using the connection. Let the phone sleep for a few minutes then send yourself an email, you wont get it till it wakes up... This is with wireless off...

I have been using this a day or so. One thing I'm noticing is that the Gmail is not being received instantly. Several tests I've run sending emails to that account show up approx 3 minutes later. This is with the enable always on UNCHECKED.

My battery lasts at least twice as long with this unchecked, but GTalk doesn't work. You wind up getting the messages when you wake the phone, and you see a "you have been disconnected" message for a min while it reconnects. If GTalk would work I would use this.

tried it for a day off and while i got more battery life i experienced the same loss of connection many have reported. The battery life was not alot more either (1.5 hours at most) so i turn it back on for now and this way i actually get my mail and stay connected to my chat programs.

Same results here. Of course, as always, YMMV. I have always been fascinated that the same phone can do far different things with the same setups.

When it's all said and done, I will be buying an extended battery because I don't want to have to monitor all of this stuff and turn this off/that off to keep my battery alive. I didn't buy this to be anal-retentive like I was with the Storm and it's memory.

The suggestions are great, but even though my battery has started to get conditioned and is lasting longer, it's still not going to dissuade me from getting the extended battery from VZW.

leave it on! it's a smart phone...if my phone made coffee i would have it making me a fresh cup all day long...just in case i wanted one

Agreed, at first it seemed like all was working well, but then i realized the lack of on time emails and what not. Basically it seemed like it was turning off the mobile connection when the phone was idle which just created a delay for my emails. Turned it back on for now.

I had it off over the weekend and had great battery life. BUT.... It changes all your Push email to manual. If you sync with an exchange server and you want the emails as they arrive then you need to leave it on.
