What's a worthy replacement?

I had no idea the S was rocking 720p, although I've been reading the screen is very nice. I guess I've been too busy keeping tabs on the new HTC phones / SGS3 to read about the Xperia S. I've still got 5 months of my existing contract left =/.
Also, Ty, been a guide long? I've only just noticed! Congrats!

Ah very good! I thought I hadn't picked up on it as I spend too much time on this forum on my phone! Congrats again to you both.

Don't know if I'm cynical or I'm trying not to go to over board on this as nothing is official still.. First week of May! Watch this space!

Well!

If you read the comments on youtube, lots of people are really disappointed by its specs. I however was impressed by how it seemed to have a removable battery and microSD slot. however that might be just the prototype casing.

Same here, hope they stay. Looks like a micro sim slot as well, they all seem to be going that way.

Just a complete weeks and all will be revealed. I think the general consensus is that the "leaked" videos are old(ish) prototypes in a generic housing. So its still rather vague to make any assumptions at the minute.

Well my upgrade date has arrived.

Do I wait, or opt for the 1X. My local Vodafone store have one left.....

I just wish the ascend wasn't so far away. With the SGS3 just around the corner, it would make waiting less painful.

I was offered a One X as an early upgrade, my contract finishes next month (3UK) but CPW do better 3 deals than 3 stores do  so I'm waiting. I'd thought of waiting even longer, to see what the SGS3 had to offer, but how long do you wait? By that time, there would probably something else to make the decision even harder!
My wife just doesn't understand!! :bawling:

My contract ran out a couple of days ago, so I'm in the same boat.

I know people say that if you wait for something better, you'll always be waiting because there is always something better coming along, but in this case it's different. We have a date for the SIII unveiling which isn't too far away, and the Ascend D Quad has already been demoed and is definitely coming, supposedly in July, and that is definitely a quad core.

It is just annoying that the One X is the only quad core available, i.e. the only next gen flagship phone. Sony has recently released its Xperia S with 720p display which due to that screen spec, NFC, and 1.5 GHz Scorpion processor is assumed to be its flagship. But quad core is around the corner for flagship phones.

THAT is why it is worth waiting a bit longer at this particular lull part of the release cycle.

Having said that, I played with a One X in CPW yesterday, and it does look nice. But the screen on the xperia S was the best I've seen. It has the highest pixel density of them all, even outdoing Apple's Retina display; nothing is finer. Awesome how they cram 720p into 4.3 inches. That's why I would rather wait to see the pixel density of the SIII, which would depend on screen size, and whether it has a removable battery and microSD; or wait for the Ascend D Quad which I hear has both and a 4.5" display.

To my mind, the One X's 4.7 inch display is a bit too large.

I might get a giff gaff sim card to tide me over until the new quads are available.

Oh, and the Ascend D Quad is apparently going to be cheap! That was the greatest thing about getting the Desire two years ago: it was cheaper than the iPhone 3GS while being more awesome.

Basically, if you hold off on the best phone, thinking something better will come along, you're a nutter.

But if you jump to a handset when you KNOW something better has already been announced, you're a nutter

So that's why I feel like a nutter almost all the time, but not entirely sure why. It's basically a continuum of reasons (the being a nutter part is a given) :D

Not that easy when you're add impatient as me.

I know the Ascend and three S3 are going to be better than the 1X, but I can upgrade to the 1 X NOW......

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH........

Had a very quick play with the one X and it staggard when flicking between screens with a live wall paper..

No lag whatsoever with the One X. The Xperia S has an awesome screen, but the bezel is quite large for my taste.

Also it does not have ICS yet. Only gingerbread, once again, I would like to have the latest software on my phone asap. (One of the reasons I bought the Desire, the Froyo update from HTC was very quick)

I would suggest waiting for the SGS3 to be announced and the release date to be announced for that as well.

If it is after July as well, the One X is seriously tempting me.

Just my 0.02.
