What's the weather like where you are?

Every year I vow to purchase a snow blower or thrower. And every year I'm glad I didn't. I just don't normally get enough snow to justify one. That's not all bad. :) I can only remember a few show stopping snows in my lifetime. This is pretty much what I have for snow removal.

My trusty ol' snow blower/thrower is 18 years old. Some winter's it's a doorstop (like last year) but some winters it really gets a workout. It's first trial came in the President's Day blizzard of '03. That one was about 2 feet of snow. Since then it's been either feast or famine. Looks like this year will be feasting.

I remember many decent snow accumulations as a kid. Nothing of the two foot variety however.
Only one snow came close... it was in Feb. 71 and I believe it was 19 inches. It seems we get more freezing rain than snow anymore.

That amount of snow I only deal with the trouble spots. Steps, main walkway, and the hill on the driveway. Then wait for the sun to take care of the rest. :p

We're getting 8-14" tonight into tomorrow morning. Typical nor'easter. Up here pretty much everyone has a snowblower or a plow. There has been a few years where I've had 5-6' of accumulated snow on the ground, but that is the exception, not the rule.

Typical snow fell here yesterday. Another three inches or less is all. It was barely enough to cover the grass. It looks like it could snow some more with the cloud cover today but there is nothing in the forecast. Presently it's 28.9°F with zero wind. Nothing to see here... move along. :)
My Sirius station keeps speaking of the NE... I hope you guys don't get hammered.

I keep thinking about that five to six feet of accumulated snow. Blows my mind!

We did the 5-footer in '93 (I think). That was fun. Snow up past the windows and then temps dropped below 0°F for a couple of days.

This one is going to be around a foot give or take a few inches and not accounting for drifts (supposed to be windy, too). For us, it's nothing exciting. A day of cleanup and then back to the routine, if there is such a thing anymore. Honestly, seeing the weather make the news is a refreshing change from COVID and other .... um ... stuff.

This is an easy storm, so like @lunatic59 said, nothing exciting. In and out in about 12 hours, done by the evening so we can have it cleaned up by around 8PM.

I've learned that if I treat each storm like there will be another one right behind it, then total accumulation really doesn't impact much. So I always use the roof rake, make sure I overclear the snow, and carve out paths for water runoff since I essentially dig a snow moat around my house.

All cleaned up before 9 a.m.

As typical with a nor' easter it was briefly intense with whipping winds, so it's not easy to judge exactly how much snow we got. Down along the driveway where it's fairly open, there's maybe 6" or 8" but in the back where the dogs run it's at least 14" deep (Because I can see about 6" of a 20" dog ;) )

Clearing the snow was interesting. It's not been really cold here so the ground was warmer than the air. The snow right at the ground level was pretty wet, but as you went up, it got lighter and fluffier, until you got to the layer of sleet right on the top. Now I just have to wait for the road plow to come by and close up my driveway and bury my mailbox. :mad:

In PA Nor' Easters go one of two ways. They either drag a lot of warm moist air up the coast and we go from cold to warm, or they throw a boatload of Atlantic moisture into some really cold, arctic air. We got the latter, so the snow that fell is not going away any time soon. Tonight's low is supposed to be in the single digits.

~~~~Windy~~~~
Otherwise, it's nice today. Presently it's 48° with a South wind bringing in a warming trend. Naturally the temps peak prior to Christmas and then drop back to normal Dec. temps.
Right on time, it is supposed to be partly cloudy Monday for the great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn.
Bummer!
I'm beginning to think that my weather station was cleverly engineered to bring five years of enjoyable service and not a day more. :( Last month I had to repair the outdoor sensor array and a couple of days ago the AC to DC converter that powers the indoor display quit. I have a replacement converter on order but in the interim my station is down. A real bummer for I truly enjoy monitoring the weather.
Prior to my station going off line, I logged a 71.1mph wind gust. It was extremely windy the entire 23rd of Dec. here in doodah. At least it calmed down over the eve and the day of Christmas. It is nearly calm today with temps in the low forties and a predicted high of 57° according to my phone. Nice weather for late December Kansas weather.
