Cold and windy here today. I winterized the cabin today after giving the ten day forecast scrutiny. Cold and colder with the chances of snow two days next week. It's currently 35.4° with the over night low forecasted to be 20°. I normally don't worry about the cabin freezing until after Thanksgiving.
I received my first snow late yesterday. It barely covered the grass and has all but melted now that the temps are in the low forties. It's uncommon to see snow in my area before Thanksgiving. I hope it isn't an indication of what this winter will bring.
It was... quite brisk yesterday morning for our town's delayed Veterans Day parade and ceremony. The sun was warm but the breeze was a little chilly for a short sleeve uniform! I transformed from Navy Chief to Navy Admiral William "Bull" Halsey*, while the Darling Bride tossed candy as Rosie the Riveter. We rode in a vintage World War II transport truck.
While some people complained that it was cold, this ol' Chief has been cold and upper 30s ain't cold!

It was a humbling experience to remove my Chief's anchors and put 4 stars on my collar... but it was a temporary demotion for a good cause

Even though it is the first day of winter, the weather is sunny and bright.
It is to warm into the mid sixties today. That will be a pleasant break from the cold we've experienced. However, in Kansas, when it warms up in the winter months the wind ramps up as well. 45 MPH wind gusts are in the forecast.

The mighty wind was so horrible duration the past few days or so, now it went from SSE of 20 MPH with a 40 MPH Wind Gust, and now it is five MPH with gust of three.

It warmed into the mid forties today with just a slight southerly wind. It is the last predicted decent day for a while. Snow is in the forecast for Thursday with the temperature falling to -2° at noon with a wind chill of -30°.

Similar forecast for Nashville for Thursday night until Friday afternoon. Bad enough my work is possibly shutting down a day earlier than planned for Christmas weekend.
My son's employment is contemplating doing the same. My daughter, that's local, teaches. School let out last Friday for the holiday. My company is retired...
A good friend that I haven't seen in years is visiting family in KC and planned to make the trip here to do lunch and a much needed BS session Thursday. I would love to see him... we lived together while going to college. I hope the weather isn't as bad as forecasted so that he can make the trip.

Yeah, if my work doesn't do it they're running the risk of having no one to shut down the production lines on Friday night if people can't make it in. If they do then I'll have a nice 10 day vacation as I am off until January 2nd anyway.
