What's the weather like where you are?

I am guessing it has been like raining and hot down here, since we all we had was really chilly days and nights, when I was on vacation and yet it was ursurper about the heat though, no sunshine except for a few days at the beach, glad we had a nice time up there. :)

- eighty degress out?! Really right now? Damn it did not felt like eighty when I was out a spell ago..

@moody. yeah these summer nights are just killing me. right now the sun has set and it still feels like a hot sauna!!!!!!

thank god i fixed my acc circulation to my room. it does suck though that my insulation sucks. its allowing the hot air to seep into the house making the ac work harder and longer. i'm waiting for cooler weather before i can address my insulation issue.

It's actually cooled off a bit in Oz. No triple digits in a week or more. The nights are cooler falling into the upper sixties. I would say it's a pleasant change but it's pretty unnoticeable. The humidity remains extremely high for it being so arid. It's been months since we saw a measurable rainfall. My yard is brown as are most of all the yards.
Young shrubs and trees have died. It might not be the longest dry spell here but it is definitely the driest I can remember and I'm 70.

I know, it's just insane. When I lived in Dallas, it took me a long, long time to get used to the fact that if it was 105 in the daytime, it would only 'cool off' to about 98 in the middle of the night. I remember at one time my brother-in-law came and stayed with us for six months after selling his house, and he and I would wait until midnight to go for a walk! (And come home dripping sweat. :o)

I'm glad you got your AC situation figured out in your room. You're right about the insulation; improving that should help a lot. My window unit...I don't know if it's on its last legs, or if it's just this ridiculous extreme heat or what, but my room is just too hot for me. Unfortunately, so is every other room! I'm about ready to go outside and do a rain dance--would you care to join me?! :D

That's really shocking. It's weird when we see a change that's a first in our lifetime, right? That's how it is here for me and my family. I'm sorry to hear about the plants you've lost, but I definitely sympathize. When I was sick...never mind, I don't want to go into that.

Yesterday I read about a watering restriction that's just gone into effect for customers of the Metropolitan Water District--and it's insane. They're asking for *no* outdoor watering whatsoever from now until the 20th. They assured everyone that their lawns would not *die* in two weeks without water, but that they'll yellow and then bounce back when watering resumes. This restriction is not directly related to the drought and our general water shortage, but has to do with replacing a main pipe and needing to do it now for some reason. I'm not impacted by this restriction, but here in Arcadia we already have ridiculous restrictions--as I've bitched about before! I'm giving serious thought to turning off the front yard sprinkler stations for the time being. Of course the lawn will die, and it will take a long time to come back, but it looks kind of sickly now anyway, and doing this would save a few thousand gallons of water each month. I have a large flower bed in the front yard and that would have to be watered by hand, but most of the front real estate is lawn, so shutting off the sprinklers makes sense to me. My live-in helper strongly disagrees (because she'll be the one who has to hand water daily!), saying that she knows how I am and I'll be really unhappy with a brown lawn. She's right, but I already KNOW that. I just think temporary unhappiness over a brown lawn, under these historic conditions, is something I can live with.

I've not mowed my personal lawn in six week. I've not run my irrigation at all this year and it shows it. I'll mow around a third of my normal lawns this week. I've ran a lawn business for thirty years and have never seen anything quite like what we are now experiencing. It is alarmingly dry.

I hear you, @olbriar. I do hope you're being very careful while mowing the yards you're still doing, what with the crazy heat and everything. I know you're like my [late] Mom--not a water drinker! But do stay hydrated one way or another, okay?

Tomorrow I have to venture out in this: Joy Noelle isn't doing too well and we're going to see her least favorite person, 'the mean man' as we [lovingly] call our vet. She doesn't know it yet--but I *know* that tomorrow morning, she'll know, and she'll go into hiding. I've never figured out HOW she always knows, but she does. Like right now, I've had her carrier in my room ever since the house got put back together--so she sees it daily, and bringing it in won't tip her off. But she'll still know. She always does.

I do quite well mowing. I've worked in the heat most all my life. I would not recommend being in the elements for those that aren't acclimated.. it's brutal!

Cats know everything. :)

A cold front moved across the state over night bringing cooler weather and much needed moisture. I played a round of golf this morning and was glad I had a jacket in my bag. Rain came this afternoon and has been off and on since. I say rain but heavy sprinkles might be a more accurate description. Currently, it's 56.8° and a whopping .19" of rain has fallen.

Observing that tomorrow will be the first day of fall, the high is predicted to be 62°. Today's high reached 101° with high humidity.
There is a fair chance of AM rain as well but I'm not holding my breath.

It has turned cold here. Lows hovering around the freezing mark and highs squeaking into the low fifties. It's supposed to drop down to 28° over night but warm into the mid sixties tomorrow and continue to warm up through the rest of the week with 80+ temps for a high Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Next week it is to cool right back down. The Kansas roller coaster.

Starting the day in Beckley west Virginia

It was extremely windy yesterday. My station recorded Southerly wind gusts around 60 mph. I haven't been out today to see what damage it might have caused. The good news is the winds brought some much needed rain to my area. It has been incredibly dry here most all summer. So far I've recorded less than three quarters of an inch but I'll take whatever the system has to offer.

A tad bit chilly this morning :thumbsupdroid:
