Help Whats your beef with the X?

Picture%2047.jpg

My droid x makes me want to drink whiskey... I need to figure out a way to use if for Video Blogging... I want to use it without a Camera operator. I wish I could turn the camera on and off via computer and actually use my Computer monitor to see whats on the screen of the droid x while filming. Does this make sense?

Just found another one with voicemail. You literally need to call your mailbox to retrieve messages and use the number pad to perform tasks. On the iphone 3G, all I needed to do was go to voicemail, see the picture of who sent me a message and click on the ones I wanted to listen to and they automatically played. With the X, its no where close to being as intuitive.

Now before everyone gets all defensive and "standoffish", I am not saying I hate the phone, I am just pointing out the flaws of it being that I came from ATT and the iPhone.

Download the Verizon Visual Voicemail app.

I'm seriously thinking about returning the Droid X & going back to my original Droid. Droid X doesn't live up to the hype. The earpiece volume & the speaker volume is way to low. The original Droid is way louder. The X has restarted on me twice, not to mention I can't keep a stable wi-fi connection. I live in Phoenix & the 3G connection isn't stable. Bouncing from 1x to 3G. It's a cool phone don't get me wrong, but I really expected mind blowing sounds(speaker), & earpiece sound to be top notch. That's a hardware problem. Don't think a software update can fix this. Can it?

Don't know if anyone mentioned this but the CAMERA's default setting is only 5MP... turn on your camera and go to settings to adjust the resolution to 8MP. There's also a bit of getting used to holding the camera still when pressing the camera button.

Same thing goes for video, the default is QVGA which is TERRIBLY bad resolution - you can improve it to 720P.

I have an IMAP account and my yahoo account. Neither would push so I needed K9. Also the sound quality is really poor especially on pandora. I know pandora streams and all that but on my BB curve i was able to play very high quality pandora streams and now i cant even listen it it its so poor even on high quality settings :(

Try Last.FM, I drove down the highway with it streaming last night, and it didn't miss a beat and sounded great. Plus, Pandora is crap because it's run by a computer algorithm that finds songs that are sonicly similar only (timbre, how upfront the vocals are, tempo) while Last.fm is driven by what users actually listen to. To get stuff you'll like with last.fm though, it would be best to scrobble your MP3 collection from your desktop to get a good database to start with (this works for new users, it uses Itunes or other media player's history), and then last.fm can give you recommendations, or let you listen to other users libraries with similar tastes. Also, the other great thing about Last.FM is that once you scrobble everything, you can LISTEN TO YOUR COLLECTION ANYWHERE - though only on random, you can't pick songs (a concession to the music companies).

I have an issue with the bloatware. I hate having stuff on my computer, phone, in my room whatever that I don't need want or use and I'm extra pissed I can't delete some of these stupid apps it came with. That was definitely the one and only thing my Blackberry had, I could delete anything and everything off of that phone.

That said I love everything else except how short the charger cord is. Battery life is great for me so far.

I see... This is why this thread is good, because people with more droid experience have solutions to things that others may not be aware of.

I was just getting ready to say "beef with (insert phone here)" threads turns into defacto troubleshooting threads.

Why are you guys paying for VZW's Visual Voicemail when Google Voice does the same thing and is free? (also transcribes voicemails - sometimes not very well, but sometime entertaining)

My beef:

LCD Screen: Something is going on with my screen. When its displaying only back background (black pic or booting up) I see white streaks, very faint, almost like smudges going from left to right at the very top 25% of the screen.

Freezes: Locks up about once every hour of use.

Reboots: Randomly just restarts. I dont even know sometimes until i see the droid eye.

Lag: page to page movement lags.

Battery: Drains fast maybe 6hrs or so and then its orange/red, i restart and its green fully for another 4 or 5 hrs.. very weird. (heard OTA update may address this.)

I have not installed additional apps, Uninstalled/removed from homepage the Social apps and all...

Want to do a replacement exchange at BB but they have none.... Is it a defective unit?

Anyone else have the same problem?

Sounds defective to me. I would exchange it when they get new ones in. Get rid of motoblur by installing Launcherpro to deal with any lag. It is much faster and has no lag. No support for Blur widgets yet though.

Google Voice has Visual Voice Mail... and its free too. Better deal than ATT/iPhone paid Visual Voice Mail.

Oh.. and Google Voice will transcribe your voicemail and send it to you via email, sms or both. I dont think iPHone does.

Is Launcher Pro in Beta? All I can find in the market is Launcher Pro Beta. Just want to make sure its the same one, with all the copy cats out there.

I'm coming From an iPhone 3G...my biggest complaint is the browsing experience..and this is prly a software thing or just my total inexperience with android...but i just can't figure out how to get the text bigger and still fit to the page nicely...the iPhone is much better in that aspect.

Wifi- it is struggling with a bunch of routers...I kept dropping a connection till I changed from wpa2 to wpa...no big deal now but was a day of frustration.

Email client- could not send through hotmail...till I got maildroid two days of frustration...it's hard to switch when you've used the same address for ten years.

I had an issue while making calls...my face hit keypad and I was hitting keys...can you lock the screen during phone calls?

I'm not in love with the hard buttons, but not a huge issue.

I do not like the Facebook contact issue.

I'm actually impressed with speakerphone and volume in general...it blows my iPhone out of the water. I'm going to have a steep learning curve but having a device that actually can make and receive calls is pretty cool:)

I also like delete all in email!!! iPhone didn't have that.

If reception tests out to be better than AT+T, I'll deal with some other frustrations.

If you are pinch zooming, once you get the size you want, double tap the text and it will reflow. When i am zooming text i use the double tap zoom method and skip pinch zooming. It just adds a middle man. I only use pinch zoom for images

1. Double tap for standard zoom in browser like iphone. For text bigger than standard zoom, zoom to the size text you want and double tap on the zoomed text. It will then fit the text to your screen. This is something iphone does not have and really bothers me when I use an iphone browser as well as the lack of kinetic scrolling.
2. The screen should turn off when you are making calls and hold the phone near your face. If it doesn't the phone is defective.
3. You can disable facebook contact syncing. Go to settings then sync.

Did u actually read my response? I never said it wasnt real. Again, I agreed with some of the things they posted. I think "horrible" and "huge pain" are exaggerations tho.

Do you think long pressing and choosing Delete is a "huge pain" to delete a text message vs. swiping to delete? I will even agree that swiping to delete is better. But long pressing and choosing Delete is not a "huge pain." Drilling down into many menus is a huge pain.

Like I think LCD's are sharper than Amoled. I dont think Amoled's have "horrible" sharpness tho.

I'm pretty sure i actually read your response... You did suggest that some of his complaints weren't real. If this quote isn't that then I dunno what is.

If u have beef with the phone, have some real beefs. The ones where I didnt know or agreed with u, those seem like real beefs.

I do agree that is a pain on the method of deleting texts on the Droid X/Android but only when you have a ton of single messages to delete. Doing that one by one can get annoying, it'd be great if there was a way to bulk delete. Hopefully in future releases this gets addressed. Although it is small, it is still a gripe.

Yes it is still technically in beta, but it works perfectly.

awesome. Downloaded and installing. However I will be replacing my phone. is there a way to remember, store, backup or save the home screen settings, apps i downloaded etc? Or if i start new, i start new.
