What's your favorite MLB team?

I've read that article. I forget sometimes that all three of our sports stadiums are privately financed.

Too bad the Dodgers don't need the Yankees bad contract too:rofl:

Lol, which one? We have many.

Referring to NE sports teams or... ?

New Yankee Stadium was funded on tax dollars from the public :(. Good thing I don't live in NYC anymore. Not really sure how bright my beloved NYY's future is looking due to the self-instituted Steinbrenner Cap.

The elephant in the room is ARod. That was a bad decision on 2007 that keeps looking worse as time goes on.

Never been a fan of the A-Rod deal, even after his MVP seasons or stepping up to the plate in 2009. His deal crippled us financially, which we are seeing the lasting effects of which now.

Teixeira, Burnett, and Soriano's deals were all dumb as hell. At least we were able to deal Burnett. Unfortunately for us, he had practically no value at the time that we dished him out to Pittsburgh. Personally, I'm not a fan of any player that is represented by Scott Boras. He stands for everything that is wrong with baseball today. That makes me incredibly sad because we are going to end up losing the best overall 2B in the league to free agency after next season.

I doubt it. Even if it costs a lot, I think we'll extend Cano. I think we'll even get it done this offseason.

There's already been insider sources saying they will let Cano walk if the price is too high. With Boras representing Cano now, I can only imagine the asking price. He's in his prime now, but if we sign him long term - he'll be just like almost everyone else on the roster. Old and used up, with the exception of Jeter and Mariano.

Management has stated repeatedly that they fully intend to get to the $189M cap mark, so they no longer have to pay out luxury taxes.

I'd rather pay more in AAV that lengthen the contract. 3-5 years at the most. It isn't so much the dollars (for the Yanks/Sox/Dodgers anyway) that kill them. It's having someone way past their prime clogging up the roster for 2, 3, 4 or in ARod's case 5 more years at huge dollars.

Yankees would do better at $30 million per for three with Cano than $20 million for five. I will say, it's easier when it's not my money.:D

I'm thinking Cano will be seeking a 4 or 5 year deal for about $18-20M/season.

The $189 million goal is pretty well known, but the only news that I've heard is that the Yankees are willing to go to nine figures to keep Cano. I think that says a lot. I think the sticking point is going to be the number of years, not the money.

I'm thinking with new TV revenue coming in and the interactive media revenue spiking that the price of top of the line talent will be higher than that. Plus restrictions now in place on draft spending and international signings mean more money going to the major league roster. I fear the $20mm+ salaries will become far more common and further divide baseball into have's and have nots.

Boras has said he wants a ten-year deal for Cano. But like I said, I think that's the part that's going to have to be negotiated over. I don't think the money part will be the issue. I have no qualms with giving Cano $20 million per. He's worth it.

The Yankees have plans in motion to sell a huge stake in YES with a 3 to 5 year evaluation plan to eventually sell their majority stake in it as well to News Corp. All of this just makes me think that maybe times have either really been that tough on the Steinbrenner's or they want out.

I thought that was just a leverage think for Fox with the cable companies. I hope it isn't a divestiture plan.

Yankees resign Kuroda, 1 year/$15 million + small incentives. Good deal if you ask me, a little rotation stability for next season, and it won't affect the 2014 goal.

Yanks also added six minor leaguers to the 40-man (LHP Manny Banuelos, RHP Brett Marshall, LHP Nik Turley, OF Ramon Flores, RHP Jose Ramirez, and LHP Francisco Rondon) to protect them from the Rule 5 draft, and added two new players: waiver claims Mickey Storey and David Herndon. 39 players on the roster as of midnight last night.

EDIT: Also, in encouraging news, Mariano Rivera made his first practice pitch since his ACL surgery :)

Meh, the only minor leaguer worth considering is Manny Banuelos. The kid has GREAT stuff. I'm hoping he can get things back on track this upcoming season. The same goes for Dellin Betances.

Banuelos had TJ surgery, he's going to miss all of 2013 :( Unfortunately, Betances is looking more like Brackman at this point, just can't control his stuff.

Yeah, I know, but a man can dream. Crazy to me how we went from having one of the best AAA rotations to it being piss poor in a matter of just one minor league season.

Indeed. The major league rotation wasn't as successful as we'd hoped either. Pineda and Nova have been pretty big disappointments. Sad to think we gave up one of our best hitting prospects ever to get Pineda, I hope he works out.

On a more positive note, it's looking like Pettitte will sign today, so that's some good news.

Quite honestly I was impressed with how Pettitte pitched last year. I think I remember Hitman and I discussing it earlier in this thread.
Totally agreed, especially after taking a whole year off. He was just what the Yanks needed, and hopefully this season will be a similar level.

Tweets from CBS and New York Post are saying that it's a one year deal between $10-11 million for Pettitte. Really glad to get this worked out, now we can move on to re-signing Ichiro, Ibanez, and maybe Martin. I'm not super thrilled at having Ichiro for another year, because I don't think we'll get the same rejuvenated numbers out of him for an entire season, but I was honored that he publicly said he wants to play for the Yankees again. A healthy Gardner, Granderson, and Ichiro is still a pretty darn good 2013 OF.

It's a better outfield than Ellsbury and retreads.
