What's your favorite MLB team?

Wow who saw the Rangers in the World Series?

Not me but they definitely deserve to be there. They've played well all season long and have dominated my Yanks in the ALCS. I'm pretty much convinced there is no coming back from the beat down that the Rangers have given us. :(

Huge yankees fan, but it ain't looking good. At least they didn't loose 4 straight heading into the off-season. It ll be nice having Cliff Lee pitch FOR them next year instead of against.

Don't be too confident about that. If we make it to Game 7 and Cliff Lee beats us you can be assured that Texas will definitely be a big suitor for him. We can throw all the money we want at him but Cliff Lee seems to be one of the few guys left in the majors with heart (instead of seeing $$$).

anythings possible of course with where lee goes, but money was a reason the phillies dealt him. He wanted $100 million plus and they werent interested in that. (although they throw $125 mil at ryan howard who will be a .230 20 hr guy by the end of the deal)

Texas *might* get a discount for him but it would be something along the lines of 6 yrs 105 mil instead of 7 120 from the yanks.

It was rumored (take it for whats it worth of course) that he prefered a trade to the yanks at mid-season and was surprised it fell through.

Yeah rumors say Lee does not like it in Texas. He will do what almost everyone does and follow the $$

The trade only fell through b/c the Seattle GM is a misleading douchebag. Yes, it was well documented that he wanted Jesus Montero but what the Yankees offered up outside of Montero was better than what Philly got from Seattle. The deal was a steal. The real issue was once Texas became involved Seattle saw an opening to rake in on a prospect named Justin Smoak (1B).

But as you said, anything is possible.

PS: I don't think Ryan Howard will be a .230 20 HR hitter.. EVER

He finished this season w/ .276 31 108 .353 .505 (and he's a career .279 hitter)

Yeah I live in WA, quite Seattle but close enough. There's a reason the M's have lost 100+ games 2 of the last 3 years.

I'd be stunned if Lee wasnt a Yankee next year, which speaking from RedSoxNation is not good news

It wouldn't be good news for any opposing AL teams. The last thing you would want is to face two left handed dominant aces in the 1 and 2 slots. I mean seriously.. think about it - CC, Lee, Burnett, Hughes, and whomever we put in the 5 hole (hopefully Pettitte feels up to another 1-yr deal) and you've got one hell of a rotation

I'm more concerned about our bullpen and lineup more than anything else.

Agreed, Mo is finally starting to show his age and Jaba is a train wreck. You need some help in 8 and 9 innings moving forward

heard today that Lee's Wife was looking at houses in the DFW area today........ i think Lee will stay but then again im also really really hoping so lol

Mo is showing his age? Lol, what games have you been watching? The sad part about Joba is that his stats outside of sabermetrics don't show how good he is. His outings are a product of bad luck and bad defense behind him. His xFIP and %'s all around show that he's overall a better pitcher in pressure positions but Girardi just keeps throwing Kerry Wood out there like it's nothing. This is exactly why Kerry Wood blew out his arm all those years ago.

Anyways, I'm sure that if I can point out all these weaknesses as a fan then Cashman must definitely see this and he'll be improving it in the offseason.

mo always has a bad streak of a week or two every season that makes people think hes done. His era was still 1.8 this year with 0.83 whip. 2007 was his only "bad" year when his era was over 3.0 but hes pitching better now then when he was in his 20's, only a serious injury would derail him. I'd say barring that he's good for another 2-3 years if he wants to pitch.

Joba is garbage theres no denying that, but I blame the Yankees for that and their expirement with him as a starter. He should have stayed as the setup man until mo retired and then he could have inherited the closer spot if he kept progressing. Now hes a basketcase who can't throw strikes.

As for ryan howard, hes 30 now and will be 32 (i think) when the actual 5 year deal starts. 1b not using steroids start to deteriorate rapidly at about that time. To think he ll be 35-37 and be a great player is a stretch. Personally, I think he ll be a $25 mil pinch-hitter by then. I like the guy, I hope not. I watched him play for the single A Lakewood blue claws when he was coming up and since then I've enjoyed following him. I just think it was an awful move by Philly. I dont think anyone would have given him more than 4 yrs 80 mil in free agency in this economic climate.

I'm gonna disagree with you. Joba has all the tools to be successful. If you can look beyond his ERA you'll see that all the other numbers suggest that I am correct. The Yankees handled Joba's position poorly by constantly changing his roles.

im with you on the bad move by the yanks. Hopefully I'm wrong on joba the whip is good I agree and hes only in his mid 20s, but there comes a point where you wonder when hes gonna be great or if that was just a flickering hope.

Ill be honest when he comes into the game i flinch and have no confidence that anything good is gonna happen. Then again I also wrote of Phil Hughes and he turned it (mostly) around.

Awe poor Yankee fans Haha the best part about last nights game was the fact that it ended with A-roid looking at strike 3. How does it feel to have your ass handed to you with a team whose payroll is 1/4 of yours! World series here we come

Still dont understand the irrational hatred toward the yankees. gotta spend money to make money.

but in any event, good luck to the rangers! rather would see the al win than the nl

Speaking as lifelong member [well since childhood anyway] of RedSox nation I can sum it up in one word. Envy.
The have not's are always jealous of the have's. Its not isolated to sports. Its a never ending cycle too. Yanks have lots of titles so everyone wants to go there and be there. Winning improves the teams Market valuable and marketability so you get paid more to be part of the evil empire.
Now as a Sox fan its just mandatory to hate the Yanks. You know the whole 86 years thing, Bambino, etc. But in the end I just wanted us to win the series in my life time. Once we got a second title in 4 years a lot of the fire was taken out because while we dont have 27 or whatever the grand total is, 2 in this decade is decent. Heck Im just glad that got that first one period. Now admittedly, that 04 ALCS was historic and epic and the cherry on top since it was against the Yanks.
But yeah bottom line, the have not's will always envy the have's. The justifications and arguments always follow. A lot depends on perspective too when you are a have everything is fine. If you are a Microsoft loyalist you don't get the bickering. If you are an Apple loyalist same difference. Apple's case is a funny one since socially they are the have, at least for the general public. Market share and profit they are the big boy. However, from a genuine user experience point of view they are the have not and they see the writing on the wall. In a couple years Android can/should/will overtake their Marketshare and profit margins and then they will be the have not crying and envious of Android. You can already see it with Jobs rant earlier this week. You always skew the numbers in your favor.
Bringing this back to baseball, its like the Rays saying yeah well we won the division and look at how much smaller our payroll is; so clearly we're the better organization. Its simple envy. Envy the Yanks have the bigger payroll. Envy the Yanks will add Cliff Lee this off-season. Envy by way of deduction that they cannot afford to keep Carl Crawford this off-season and likely Price will be gone after next. Envy of titles. As we all know envy very quickly will morph itself into resentment and away we go.

Wow sorry for the soapbox monologue in the Sports forum guys :o
