What's your favorite MLB team?

Still dont understand the irrational hatred toward the yankees. gotta spend money to make money.

but in any event, good luck to the rangers! rather would see the al win than the nl

I'm a NL fan but will be rooting for the rangers because of hamilton AND cause they are the better story for me. Love that they beat the yanks to get where they are. Everyone that isn't a fan loves to hate the yanks... they are the evil empire

And how about the yanks AND the phils being out of it, who would a thunk it?

Wow sorry for the soapbox monologue in the Sports forum guys :o

Good post saps. The point I always try and bring up is that people tend to forget that its wasnt THAT long ago that they Yankees were awful. I remember being a kid in the late 80s and early 90s and going to weekend games with my dead that to say they were half-full is being generous. The best they could do year in, year out would be compete for 2nd in the division.

And thus the "ya gotta spend money to make money" adage is so true. The yankees have 200+ million to spend every year because they have their own cable network and make hundreds of millions every year. If they werent reinvesting in the team and started to suck for a few years the cycle of lower attendance and revenue would return. When you play in the biggest market, you have the biggest pressure to perform.

Now if the yankees somehow circumvented the rules to spend that money then fine that d be wrong, but as the way it stands they do nothing wrong and pay millions to other teams through the luxury tax (as do the red sox and mets usually). Now is baseball as healthy as the nfl when it comes to the cap and competition...no. But look at the results, the rays, a's, marlins, twins, giants etc etc have been successful without as much money because they breed players in the minors, so you dont need to spend as much to compete but you do loose your key players eventually unless you take a risk and sign them earlier (ie evan longoria).

And for the pirates, royals of the world well do a better job developing talent. If enough owners wanted a salary cap, there would be one its that simple.

Like I said, Im fine with people hating the yankees, just hate seeing hundreds of facebook/twitter posts the day after they loose with such joyful people reveling in their loss. I'm a Jets fan and if the Pats win another superbowl Im not thrilled but I dont go nuts celebrating.

Same deal with the Red Sox, yeah it sucked in 2004 losing a historic 3-0 lead but at the same time when they did win (and again in 07) I was at most indifferent to it and just said congrats to my friends who are sox fans.

If the mets ever win a world series again Id do the same. Thats all

All I can say to Rangers fans is don't underestimate the Giants. Look what it did to the Phillies... LOL all those 'critics' said they'd be swept or go down 1-4. They may be called underdogs, but that really doesnt mean a thing. Oh, and look out for those 1 run games... You've been warned. :D

Good point. Yeah when you guys won last year it was like oh well, whatever. I/we at least have a taste of victory. As the years go by though the frustration mounts. Thats why teams who have waiting 30-50+ years are more bitter. RedSox just aren't bitter anymore. Angels aren't either, Phils aren't. Winning cures almost everything

Awe poor Yankee fans Haha the best part about last nights game was the fact that it ended with A-roid looking at strike 3. How does it feel to have your ass handed to you with a team whose payroll is 1/4 of yours! World series here we come

Just as an FYI - the Rangers payroll isn't exactly a 1/4 of the Yankees payroll. We've established that payroll means nothing. We've seen teams like the Rays advance to the Fall Classic and their payroll is one of the smallest in all of the MLB. Take your whining and complaining about payroll elsewhere. You should just enjoy the monumental win and the Rangers first WS appearance.

I foresee some pitching duels upcoming. I'm pretty pissed off that I can't watch the Fall Classic though b/c of FOX and my cable company feuding.

All time favorite team is the Chicago Cubs.
They haven't been the same since Ryne Sandberg retired but I love to watch them play.
The Rangers are a close second, I lived in Texas for 18 years and really enjoyed watching them play, they have great chemistry as a team.
Thirdly, The Rockies. Now that I live in Colorado I can go watch them play and i got to catch 4 or 5 games since i have been here and they are really fun to watch.
Great weather, Great ballpark, lots of fun.

I'm a NL fan but will be rooting for the rangers because of hamilton

Josh Hamilton is, in my opinion, one of the best players in baseball right now. The guy has an amazing story of how he overcame is addiction to alcohol and drugs. And i love that the rest of the Rangers are very conscious of Hamilton's past, it was great seeing them shower him with ginger ale instead of champagne.

no i have never been an A-roid fan. And the main reason most of us hate him because he tried to blame taking the roids on Texas not man up and just admit it. And your right payroll means nothing because if it did you guys would have more than 2 titles in 10years the yankees should be win at least every other year with the money they spend.

Riiiiiight, you clearly know nothing about baseball or the Yankees for that matter but it's ok. I'm not crying. I'm actually happy that the Rangers won b/c they were the better team in the ALCS and deserved to move onto the World Series. I'm done talking to you though since [edited] so GL to your team.

Do we all agree whoever wins game 1 wins the series?

I'm going with Giants in 6

he never blamed texas for the steroids. he simply said he took it while playing for texas, thats not placing blame on anyone but himself. and payroll doesnt determine anything but who has the most money to spend.

here's the top 5 total payroll's from 1999 through 2008:
(1) Yankees $1,658,849,589
(2) Red Sox $1,164,321,757
(3) Mets $1,046,910,087
(4) Dodgers $1,039,853,163
(5) Braves $902,043,428

The Mets have spent over a billion $ in that period of time and haven't won anything. Yet the White Sox have spent $697,463,083 and won a championship and the Marlins have only spent $366,704,357 which is the lowest out of all MLB teams and they won it in '03. In the 2003 season, the marlins' payroll was ranked 20th out of 30 teams.

[insert 'the claw' smilie here]

I say Giants in 6 too. If they do lose then I think it will go to 7. It all depends on how Sanchez pitches, seeing as he's had several shaky starts and I'm a bit worried about him. He's either lights out or won't last more than an inning or 2 and you never know.

Reminds me a lot of AJ Burnett lol

hence my name :)

Multi-quote!! LOL

Payroll is a big deal though... doesn't guarantee championships but it certainly is a touchy subject for some.
Would love it if reds landed C Lee but realistically Castellini can't match what yanks, [insert other big money team here] can throw at him. This breeds discontent and anger/envy towards high payroll teams. With the Yanks of course being the most visible. People love to hate the yanks because of this and the success they have had, (especially after 4 titles in 5 years). Fact is though it hasn't won them but 1 title in the past few years.
In the spirit of that, i'm rooting for the team with the smallest payroll:D:p (who is that anyway) lol

Come on guys, lively debate is fine but keep out the little insults. That being said...go Giants! :D

i'll quote myself here and say that I couldn't have been more wrong. I didnt expect the Giants to play THAT well. In any case, I guess I'll have to change my prediction to Giants in 5 lol

The SF Giants have an amazing ball club this season. Their superior pitching and ability to win in one-run situations is uncanny.

"FEAR THE BEARD" (LMFAO) :D
