Root Which Kernel should I flash?

My specs:

HTC Evo Supersonic
Kernel version 2.6.32.17-gee557fdhtc-kernel@and18-2 #15
PRI version 1.90_003
Software # 3.7.0.651.1
Baseband Version 2.15.00.11.19

In order to Mirror HDMI from this handset, I need to flash a kernel.

[Kernel]netarchy-toastmod, Stable: 4.3.1 Beta: 4.3.4 (17-Mar-2011) Now With HDMwIn - xda-developers

has all of the information to do this.

1) I don't know if I currently have a Sense kernel or an AOSP kernel.

2) I have done a Nandroid back up and copied it to a PC.

3) I have changed recovery to Amon Ra so Davlick can be wiped clean.

4) According to the link above, I may need to downgrade PRI and NV before flashing netarchy kernel.

5) Is this above link the "right" kernel for me?

I'll stop with the questions there as I don't want to overwhelm, knowing that's is impossible with you guys :)

You have a sense based kernel, HTC #15, I assume you're still on your stock rom correct?

If you are on a sense based rom you can use Netarchy Toastmod 4.3.x kernels. I'm not really sure what the latest stable version is out right now. I use 4.3.1 cfs HAVS no sbc, and everything works.

Yes, I haven't yet progressed to flashing ROM's.

With regards to the PRI and NV downgrading issues....

If I go and downgrade, I should do a Nandroid Backup Before Flashing
Netarchy kernel, correct?

Absolutely make a Nandroid.

Make sure if you downgrade your PRI, downgrade your NV as well. Both should be 1.77. Also when you flash them, only flash one at a time. Meaning, flash the PRI zip, then reboot. Then flash the NV, then reboot. You can't flash both in the same recovery session.

All systems go. Thanks. I'll let you know how it goes.

What about flashing a "latest" Radio too?

Is that advisable given my current setup and Kernel flash plan.

Personal preference only?

You have the latest radio version, so you don't need to flash anything there.

As far as downgrading your PRI, I'd check and see if Toastmod doesn't work well first. Some phones can run the newer versions of Toast with the 1.90 PRI, some cant. I'd try it with your current PRI, and test your phone . If you get screen tearing, or excessive battery drain, random reboots, then downgrade.

I had to downgrade my PRI when I went to ToastMod 4.3.1. Before I did, I could watch the battery drain, litterally 1-2% a minute. After I downgraded, I get 28-30 hours of light to moderate use.

One more thing, which recovery are you using?

Make sure you test several Kernels with your phone, because every device is different. Some can run HAVS, some can't.
One more thing, I don't recommend SBC. It has been known to make batteries explode in the past.

When you make a nandroid everything is backed up.
So if anything goes haywire, your nandroid will restore your phone to exactly the way it was when you made the backup.

No need to worry about the google contacts. :)

Got the new kernel installed, no problems.

However, the end result was to get HD mirroring up and running!

Downloaded HDMwin, pressed start mirroring and nothing on the HDTV but a quick white snowy screen then goes to black.

Have played with resolution with no joy.

May need to let the TV warm up a bit.

Any experiences with this problem greatly appreciated if/when shared.

I just discovered that after starting the HDMI service it stops almost immediately.

Hey guys, how you be. I'm on here because I'm trying to hook my buddies up with Cyanogenmod7. But as you can see I have a DX (yeah yeah, I know... trust me I know), and we don't change out kernels when we flash ROMs, we can't. So I'm not at all familiar with that aspect of it.

So I would really appreciate a little help, when I flash Cyanogen does it come with the most efficient kernel built into it already? Or do I need to do that afterwards? And if so, which is the most popular kernel for use with Cyanogenmod7 to maximize battery longevity?

I flashed the same netarchy you did with minor but noticeable battery drain. ( I don't really know for sure ). I then flashed the hdmwin kernel
and have seen the battery life hold it's own pretty well. I still have PRI 1.90 so I guess I'll see how it goes.

In your opinion, how much battery improvement did you notice after downgrading PRI and NV?

Anyone reading this please feel free to chip in.

downgrading your pri and nv should only be done if your kernel is not happy with your phone. in other words if you are getting screen tearing, really bad battery drain, or random reboots. doing so probably will not really affect battery life.

Exactly. Thanks. Fortunately, I don't have any of the features that
can crop up with flashing a new kernel.

Extending battery life seems like more an art sometimes than a science.

I am learning...
