This was my first ROM when I rooted, and it was almost like nothing had changed - just like the original.
I can't think of one, but TBH there aren't a lot of AOSP updates coming out at the moment. I think the GB projects are mature, and people are waiting for ICS.
Does anyone recommend something to increase battery life, and still look somewhat better than standard?
Currently running Runnymede AIO V3.0.5, looks fantastic... I haven't had a chance to check out the battery life yet, so I can't comment on that
BUT, it does lag a bit at times... which I accept is a sacrifice to how it looks, but id rather a smoother ROM

On Runnymede AIO 4.0.1. I like the bells and whistles of Sense, but bored of GB, so have been looking at these Sense 3.5 ports.
I've tended to be disappointed with how these. When you first put them on, they are super fast, and it all looks great. Then after a week or so, it starts getting laggy, up to almost being unusable, so was just about to give up on them.
However, was tempted with Runnymede AIO. The dev seems to be very active on XDA, and there are also some helpful XDA members also on the thread. Looking through the thread, I noticed a couple of tips for speeding the rom up. Apparently, when you wipe with some versions of CWM it formats your SD partition to ext3 (even if you have used gparted to set it up to ext4). You can also turn off the 3d sense widgets in the RCMix3D tweaks settings.
The dev recommends using a new touchscreen recovery called 4ext. Thought sod it, will give it a twirl.
4ext looks great - seems to promise the world, but it is still beta, so use caution. It identified by SD partition as ext3. You can use 4ext to reformat the partition without losing data, so after appropriate nandroid did this.
The rom seems to be currently flying - no lags, but battery life is not that great. Dev is working on it though. Not had it running long enough to see if it develops the dreaded lag to check if the downgrade to ext3 does have an affect though.
I suspect that these might be as far as GB Sense roms go. There seems to be almost daily progress on ICS on XDA (camera is now almost working). Once we have stable ICS roms, GB is going to be old hat.

the usb unbrick feature is just flash_image. you have a better one with hboot.
might take a look at this recovery, ive stayed clear as i just dont trust cwm recoveries anymore but amonRA is lacking features and rmd is flawed with some backups.
im not convinced with 4ext's format proceedure though. if its using sdparted then its not aligning the paritions and if its using alignment scripts that can cause issues with partition degredation as well

yeah I know about the unbrick, but if you flash and break during say a bus journey, you can just fix it there and then.
I still wouldnt partition with a recovery and never will again.
I had the same reservations. I even mentioned it in his thread but so far so good, but I dont do much in recovery at the moment so Im not a good case study.

just tested 4ext touch rc7. looks very nice indeed

well i just formatted system/cache/data fullly and resotred a backup i took just before doing it and its fine. thats a good start
bit gutted that it cannot match rmd's transfer speed though where i was getting 10-13 read when copying files.
its a refreshing change though, cant help but think there is some evil lurking somewhere

New to the rooting world, tried out about 4 different ROMs CM7 Stable, Runnymeade, Relux, and MildWild. Seems like the most difficult step is not the rooting process, but finding a ROM you like!
By far my favorite one is MildWild -> [ROM]MildWild V-2.6 CE Based on Oxygen 2.3.2 - xda-developers
...it's SUPER fast, no lag at all, stable, good battery life and he has v2.6 which is more colorful and v2.5 which resembles ICS (I'm running 2.5)... I'm so glad I've moved away from Sense!

I've been reading through the thread on that rom, and it sounds interesting - might give it a try. I have the links to download all the versions from 1.6 to 2.4 - but I can't find the links for v2.5 or v2.6 - any idea where to find them?
