Root which rom?

So I've been researching the past few days on which Rom I want to use.. and seem to see each has problems somewhere.. can anyone recommend something that fits the bill of my list of needs/wants?

Must be completely working and stable
Not laggy
No SD partitioning needed
Gb with sense 3.0
Hot spot hacked
4G working.

Partitioning the SD is a possibility though, but I have never done it, would appreciate hearing the pros and cons.
Partitioning the SD card allows you to break the single physical medium into multiple logical zones, called partitions.

Then you can install apps on it. The pros, install apps on to the sd card and have them run from the sd card.
The cons, you need to do it, and you need a card that has a high enough class. I've heard anywhere as low as 6 and higher. Usually class 10 is recommend.

Try Mik3d beta. I'm using it. No lag. Hotspot works. I'm not partitioned. I assume 4g works. Haven't had a chance to check it out yet (but it should).

I was leaning toward mik3d, but saw there are some mms issues. Can you confirm what the problems are? I'm a reptile breeder and a large portion of my business is sending pictures out.

Also, which to use, alpha or beta? I've never used any non aosp Rom before. And never run a Rom on the EVO, just the optimus v.

So using the 8th SD card that came with my EVO, I should probably avoid anything that requires SD partitioning? I was also worried about, say the SD becomes damaged or i have to remove it change it etc, my phone wont work?

I'm on the 8gb card that came with the phone too. I've always been under the impression that a 16gb class 10 card is best to use. Or possibly higher, I must admit I don't stay up with sd cards.

Not sure if it'll work with other phones (probably would need to format it).

Have limited 4g here but it does work. the wireless tether or hotspot, whatever it is called works with 3g but not 4g but I have read that is a sense issue in general.

I can't speak to the mms question you had.

Thanks everyone. So my current questions are...
...if the card is partitioned to install a Rom, then the card must be in the phone at all times, and upgrading the card means doing it all over again?

...hoping someone chimes in about mms.

I tried the Mik3D for about 5 days and it started getting really laggy on my phone....I was referred to another 3.0 sense ROM called EvolvedROM R3charged RC1 and i love it.....i have not experienced any lag whatsoever....its based off the Mik3D ROM so its the same but there is more stuff taken out....4g worked for me when i tried it.....Hotspot worked....and MMS works...i send pictures all the time with it and havent had a problem yet...

i flashed mik3d on my g/f evo. it works great, its fast and reliable. very stable. mms is fine. no worries. she sends pics like u wouldnt believe.. go figure. flash it!

Doesn't evolved require partitioning the sd card though?
Also, sense 3.0 is not a necessity. Stability, everything working fully, and battery life are my priorities.

Downloading evolved now. From reading I guess I can install without partitioning. I am slightly interested in partitioning now though. Does the whole Rom install to sd? I'm worried about not being able to use my phone if my SD fails or I get a bigger card. What exactly goes on the sd card?

here follow these directions on how to partition your card. just use the new card in place of the current card: [GUIDE][07/07/11]How to Partition your SD Card - xda-developers

it is not necessary to partition your card with evolvedrom as it is pretty stripped down. but i have 160 and some apps so i have to partition mine. try out mikg 2.45 as well. it is not sense 3.0 but it is still a solid rom.

no, the rom does not go on the card only apps. basically 1st you need a rom that supports a2sd or has it built in. a2sd is totally different the apps2sd that was first introduced by froyo. with apps2sd only part of the app gets moved to the card while still some of it will remain on the phone. with a2sd a symbolic link is created between the app and the phone. the link tricks the phone into thinking it is still there on the phone. all this does not work until you have partitioned your card, however. i hope that helps answer your questions. if you have more please feel free to ask.

Ok. So I have evolved flashed and set up. No partitioning. After deleting the stock things i dont use i have 319mb free which is awesome imo. At first it was super sluggish and laggy but after removing some of the widgets (such as bookmarks, favorites, and calendar) it seems to have pepped back up. So far i am very happy. Will see with time if it stays fast, and how the battery life gets. I need to look into supercharged and try that out. I don't however like the font, any way to change it back to stock font?

if you want to change the fonts check this out:300 Flashable Font Packs - Change your system fonts the easy way! - xda-developers. not sure which one is stock or if there is one.

Supercharged #8 and loving it! All the fonts I tried were edify and would not flash though :(

no those should be amend. there is an edify version but you have to click on the link. what recovery are you on? if it is amon ra2.3 then it should not matter. if you are clockwork mod then you need to click on the link to the edify fonts. you ust flash it like a rom. and i guess that i did not read the thread carefully enough because it does say the droidsans is the stock font.

So I had my wife's phone running [ROM] Synergy - [RLS1+GodMode 08/05/2011] - Now With Warm Sprinkles!
Along with the More_Freedom v8.5 Kernal and it was Great!

Also ran the v6 supercharger on option #9

Had Great battery life, and no real lag if you go easy on the widgets.
4g, mms, and wifi tethering all work great.

Would still be on it if I hadn't had to flash to Elite III with Netarchy's Toastmos kernal in order to HDMI mirror Netflix.

So battery life on evolved is horrible. Dropping like 5% per hour in standby. Uses 1% just to send 2-3 texts. Would this be a kernel problem or the ROM? Anyone else have these issues?

never had much of an issue with battery life for me and i text all the time....but im about to flash the GM 1.1 kernel and try that out and see if there is any difference....

From all the threads on here about Mikg 2.45, battery life is supposed to be awesome with that ROM....might wanna try that one out....i believe mikg 2.5 is out now too....

for most roms it is usually the kernel that will drain your battery more then the rom itself. some roms are optimized to be fast and responsive, but you pay the price in battery life. however, a kernel with setcpu can fix that issue. try a different kernel. give it a few days and if your battery still sucks then switch to a different one.
