Who else can't wait to get one of these?

Yep....battery saving under S-Pen settings. Where's Treb & NeoG? I don't know if this is also the case with the Note 10.1 but on both devices once battery saving is enabled, no S-Pen works.

I actually don't have battery saving options enabled on my Notes. Once I get home, I'll check the Note 10.1 and see.

And enjoy your new toy Scandalex! :D

Edit: I just looked carefully at the Note 2 Pen settings for battery savings. It looks like if the S Pen is housed it will disable the field which detects the pen, which in turn conserves battery life. As a test, I pulled the S Pen slightly out so it detects it's out of the slot. Then used my other S Pen. It works. Push it back fully into the slot and the other S Pen will not work.

I can only conclude that this will also happen with the Note 10.1. It looks like the Pen detection when housed will disable the digitizer completely to conserve battery life.

LOL!!! I get mine then give Neo homework.

Look forward to your findings although I think you already found the answer.
Since I don't ever use any power saving features I didn't know this one was set by default.

Another + for the 8, this puppy is faster (IMO) than the Note 2.

I'm really glad you like it:D. At the moment it only appears to available in the flagship Samsung Store in the UK. Most of our well known retailers(Amazon UK,Currys,John Lewis CPW etc ) aren't selling it yet.

The only problem I'm having is wifi. I don't know how many times I've had to "forget" my network only to rescan and do it all again. For some reason it the 8 won't stay connected.

Yep, the Note 10.1 exhibits the same behaviour. When it detects the Pen in the housing, all power to the digitizer/magnetic field goes out. Instantaneous too. I had the Pen in the housing and used my other S Pen to activate the battery saver. Once I checked it, lights out, Pen doesn't work. Same thing with the Note 2. The MS Surface pen also fails to work with battery saver on and with the S Pen housed.

I guess this is important for users who have spare Pens. It's apparent that the battery saver mode for the S Pen must be deactivated or have no S Pen in the slot for other spare Pens to work.

That's strange. My Notes latch on to the network pretty quickly. Even after a router reboot (had to reset my router two or three times already due to brown-outs). Though it always fails to connect to the 5GHz band even with a very strong signal. It'll always connect to the 2.4GHz band as its preference. Haven't found a way to put the 5GHz band as the priority band to use first (with the exception of 'forgetting' the 2.4GHz connection).

Really? I have power save mode on right now and it still detected my s-pen w/ eraser.

In Canada, only Best Buy and Future Shop have it for sale. All other retailers don't have them yet. Wonder if it's a launch sale exclusive with Best Buy/Future Shop.

Drex, the battery saving option is different than the system power saving mode. This is found in the S Pen settings. Once 'Battery saving' is checked within the S Pen settings, spare S Pens (or any other digital pen) will fail to work with the unit's S Pen in its slot.

Ohhhh...my bad. Thanks for clarifying. Does that really save significant battery life?

I couldn't even make it home this morning. Popped into iHop to have at it.
Congrats

Edit 1 : I jacked up the Quote, but you get the idea ;)

Edit 2 : my OCD is telling me to tell you to add your new Note 8.0 to your Device(s) :)

That sounds like it could be some kind of IP conflict if you have multiple devices on a router that is running DHCP. I recently started reserving IP's for everything on my wireless LAN and have not run into any issues. Could also be something that a simple router reboot would solve.

Fixed your quote Treb. :)

Ok right now I am NOT a happier camper. I've reset this things at least 10x's. No matter what I do it will not stay connected to my home wifi.
I've unplugged the router for a few, plugged back in, enter my key & get wrong password.

I've got about 8 or 9 gadgets all connected to the same wifi without issue. This has me stumped. If I jump on my neighbors & enter her key it connects just fine so I am guessing the problem lies somewhere in my router but I don't know what else to do.

Ohhhhhhhh AND how about during this last factory reset I actually read some of the ish popping up on the screen and it clearly says if you want to use a different S-Pen you must disable battery saving (in S-Pen settings).

DOH!!!! :D

Your guess is as good as mine. I always had that option disabled, so never really thought about it until Scandalex brought it up.

Scandalex, do you limit the amount of users in your network? IP address pool exhausted? MAC address restrictions? Just some suggestions I'm throwing out there...

Why do you get to have all the fun and I'm stuck doing the work??!! :frown:

j/k. :D

You know Samsung has a setting for everything. They probably don't even know the answer to this.

Nope...no limits on the amount of users since most of the users is me. :D
I wonder if I can delete some devices (family) that have previously connected. As of right now I'm ready to slam my head in a wall. This was supposed to be fun--not having any.

EDIT: So I did the WPS push button connect and while still in router settings I saw the 8 connected but on the tablet it's still coming up authentication error occurred.

I swear I think we're related. Your 1st link I just finished reading that about a 1/2 hr ago; but thank you.
There wasnt anything there I hadn't tried.

The 2nd link was more phone specific but since I'm getting sleepy I'll try to tackle this more tomorrow or exchange the tablet.

I'm actually going to be selling my Note 8.0 to a friend of mine. Don't get me wrong it's a great device, but the honeymoon period ended rather quickly for me. I haven't even picked the device up in 2 days. I have a buddy that has been eyeing this device for a while so I'm going to unload it on him ;)

I've never owned a tablet personally, but I will use the wife's iPad from time to time, so I figured if there was a tablet out there for me it would be the Note 8.0 since I love my Note 2 so much. I just don't think I'm a tablet person. Hope you guys continue to enjoy yours.

This one is going back. I've been trying to connect this thing to my wifi for 14 hrs and nothing I do is making it happen. Even went as far as taking all other devices off & starting from scratch. Nothing should require this much time & attn.
My brain has run outta tricks.

Lets see what sensible retailers will be selling it for:)

I'd be more interested in sensible pricing than sensible retailers. LOL. :p

It's still steep for a mid range tablet. Or should I be saying super sized phone? Considering that's what it more resembles...

@Treb: how dare you mention the fruit in our presence... LOL. Sorry to hear you couldn't find a purpose for it.

@Scandalex: are you able to view the router's logs? That might give a clue to why it's happening. I know the TF101 was causing me issues. Found out the router exhausted all assigned IP addresses. Had to increase my pool. Then there was a time I forgot to increase the number of users. And another time where I neglected to enter a MAC address to allow access to the network. Also messed up with the router/modem config that knocked out my other router. It's always a pain trying to figure out the cause for wireless issues. Which is why I have most of everything wired. Less headaches and more reliable. If the Note had a RJ45 jack I would have it wired immediately. LOL.

In another life, we probably were!

I think you're making the right decision in just getting it exchanged for another one. What scares me is if, you get the new one, bring it home, but it continues to show the same issue. That, without a doubt, would scare me off from purchasing the Note 8.0. No way I could afford having to do this at work or home, when using the tablet.

Ok. It's definitely going back for an exchange but I have to call the store Thurs. night (inventory) to make sure they have more in.
Anyway, not connecting to my own network hasn't stopped me from using it since I'm on my neighbors.

On a happier note, the iHOP I was at that morning is refunding my entire order because the food I ordered take-out was wrong.

Maybe you jinxed yourself performing the normal hard reset before use mantra;)

If only I were in Philly cuz I'd be ready to swoop up a refurb note 8.0!
