Thank God for the first bootup screen. Without that screen, all the other screens don't really show it at all. And the only other page I could find that shows it is Youtube.

And those pics, taken with my Galaxy Note 2, are actually spot on accurate with what I was seeing in person.

Cross your fingers Best Buy exchanges for me, guys!
 
So, Best Buy wouldn't do a straight exchange for a new one. Oh well.

I just paid the difference which was 45 after amazon price match.

Still more than I wanted to pay out of pocket, but oh well. Now I will just pay attention for the international unlocked version and sell the wifi version if needed.

Powered on quickly, just to see if there is light leakage. Definitely better than last one, but we'll see how I feel the rest of the week. And if any light leakage becomes more apparent.

Hoping there is Memorial Day sale that will get me some money back, but not worried so much about that. Still got decent deal.
 
Oh well....looks like an exchange is in order. As far as light leakage, can't really tell from the pic. It looks to me like a crappy wallpaper but that could just be based on reflection and how hard it is to take a pic of a screen.

What I'd do in regards to an exchange is go directly to a manager and in your best "You idiots voice" tell them they should've NEVER bothered to sell this as an open item. The one I like to use is thus couldn't possibly have been checked before putting back on the floor.

Barring any issues I might notice within the next 13 days, I'm definitely keeping this. Perfect size, perfect weight. Everything I wanted the HTC Flyer to be (before), except the S-Pen (especially, since it works on the capacitive buttons) is just so much better an experience.

SGP skin is already on order from Amazon, along with a bluetooth keyboard cover (just for having at work).

Did you look into the keyboard/case combos on Amazon.
 
Yup. Already ordered. Meant to Say I got SGP Screen protector. Even though I've been running naked on my Note 2, I'm realizing that I feel more comfortable writing with the screen protector on there and I'll be doing a lot more note taking on the Note 8 than my Note 2.
 
So, while I'm waiting on my bluetooth keyboard case and SGP screen protector to get delivered, I received my friendly PalBot speaker. I didn't have a specific need for it, but it was just darn cool, so I had to get one. Even better, I found ways to use the cheap ebay bluetooth dongles that I purchased. It's just too bad that they have to be charged with mini-usb, rather than micro USB.

Amazon has it for $379.99. Best Buy price matched, based on their new low price guarantee policy (which is still somewhat flawed if you ask me).

They also have the Note 10.1's on sale, as well. I was very tempted to get the 32gb 10.1, rather than the Note 8, but ultimately it came down to the microUSB charging port (which makes it convenient for charging and sync'ing), as well as the size (perfect for my car, which I'll be taking pics of the setup I came up with tonight).

The pics don't really do the setup justice for how out of the way everything is for me. When I'm in my car (which, I've mentioned before that majority of Los Angelians spend majority of their lives in a car), I only use my Note 8 to listen to music. I use PowerAmp to adjust the sound. And, I have to say again, the HS3000 (even though it seems like Samsung might have discontinued it) is so worth the purchase. For a second, I thought that the sound quality was going downhill, so I had switched to USB audio (I got a USB connector from iBolt and it works with any charger). When I was setting up the Note 8 configuration, I realized that I had accidentally turned the volume level down on the HS3000, so after increasing the volume again, it was just as loud and clear as the USB audio connection. I was looking into other similar products (Sony has one w/ a FM radio; Jabra has one also), but I am hoping to find another place that still sells the HS3000, aside from ebay (since they increased price).

Really falling in love will this tablet! Even trough I liked the Note 10.1 a lot, it was too big for my needs. I'm getting over not having 32 GB... although I can't say I wouldn't still want it.
 
Can't say too much for the battery life so I just charge it up every night.

Not complaining though because the functionality of the stylus and software has made my Note 8 the most productive piece of hardware out of my other 3 androids for getting some work done.

Yeah, me neither. I've only left it uncharged one night. I'm going to try leaving it off charge for this go around and see how it does with use at work, car, and home.

Overall, it's exactly what I was needing in a tablet (for the past three years). If I return this one, it'd only be to get a 32gb version (if that ever happens) or if I get a different color (possibly International version, if I go past my return window).

Went to the "dark side" for my smaller tablet. Picked up an iPad mini over the weekend. Now using the note 10.1 for work/productivity and the mini for leisure. Working out well so far.
Since I've switched back and forth between iOS and Android over the years, (surprise surprise) I've already got plenty of time and $$ invested in apps on both platforms. Also, since all my machines at home and work are Macs, I'm able to get good use out of photo stream, iMessage, iCloud for bookmarks etc.

LOL. That brings back the good old memories of PalmOS and PPC/Windows Mobile. Jumping over to PPC/Windows Mobile was considered the 'dark side' then. Now it's between Android and iOS. How times have changed. Though, it's funny how BB was left out of all that in the past and present. :p

If anything, my next tablet will be the more robust Microsoft Surface Pro. If I can scrounge the funds for that. I'm finding I can't use Android to access my work's CE courses online. Android/iOS are not supported and there are no plans in the future to support it either. :(

Oh the PPC/Windows Mobile days! Back when I was a diehard HTC guy. Such an underrated phone OS, if only Microsoft developed it better and didn't completely abandon it for Windows Phone (which, I still am not convinced on). One thing I loved most about Windows Phone was not having to do anything to have administrator access. That made it easy to do small customizations (like startup sound/image, visual changes, etc.). Also, the voice recognition on Windows Mobile was still by far the best that I've used. It worked well with A2DP, opening apps loaded on the phone, as well as identifying/dialing contacts. And, when it always paused first, prior to it calling someone, so if it didn't recognize the correct party, you wouldn't have to quickly end the call.

Before you get a Microsoft Surface Pro, I just want to make sure you've tried Windows 8. I purchased the RT version of the Surface for my Mom and I personally think it's awful. I set it up perfectly for her needs, but the tile configuration just doesn't make sense to me at all. FYI, Microsoft still has the Samsung ATIV 700T on sale for $999, in case you want a laptop with a S-Pen.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that the Surface Pro is on sale through Microsoft at $899.

If I were in need to replace my Laptop, that would probably be my personal choice (I actually had ordered one from a fraudulent website, prior to the Note 8 rumors starting...thankfully got my money back, so I'm a firm believer in "if it's too good to be true, it probably is."), but to each his own. I think part of the reason I'd be partial to that one is the integrated S-Pen (even though, the functionality isn't anywhere near as intuitive as it is with Android software). It's still a WACOM digitizer, so to me, that's always a bonus. I'm totally sold on the writing technology.
 
I like the surface Pro with the built in kickstand. Felt very sturdy in my hands. Had notebook specs with 3rd gen IB processor and digitizer. So I can full Windows art apps like Painter 12 and a few others. If I need more pressure sensitivity, I could hook up my intuos5 tab to it also. ;)
