who's keeping thier phone?

I have the GPS issues as well and just found a dead pixel so that was the final straw. They are sending me a replacement. Because of the way I ordered it, my 14 day window will reset. So when I get my "new" vibrant Wednesday, I will continue to play with it and decide. The only reason I don't want to just give it up is because I am getting a decent deal from tmobile. If I can get out of contract, I would go with sprint
I just started a contract a week ago. Is there any way to get out of a new contract?

I am on the fence. It truly depends on if the gps holds up. I am over my 14 days so that could play a part. I don't really want anything else, so that also plays a part. I may keep it until project emerald and then ebay it. We'll see.

hey call t-mobile, your 14 days might have actually reset.

I think if you can prove that t-mobile service in your area doesn't work, they will let you out of your contract. But they will do tons of tests to confirm you dont have coverage. Have you been with sprint before? Becareful with sprint, you can get some really bad customer service.

So anyone who has done the fix at XDA by entering the info, does your bluetooth still work if this chip controls that too?

What are you smoking, GPS is a line of sight technology you put anything thicker then car roof between you and the satellite it will drop. NO GPS will work indoors unless you are near a window (again line of sight)

False. Mine loaded up in my house when i gave it a destination.

Hmmm, now that you mention it, my Bluetooth on this phone is extremely flaky. I was blaming my Pioneer Avic car audio system (which the phone pairs to) but now after reading the same chip handles the BT and the GPS? It's a strange coincidence that neither my BT or GPS works right. I wonder if the 90 day Costco return policy applies to the cell phone kiosk in the store. I may exchange this phone tonight in the hope I get one with a decent Broadcom chip.

That is because it is using Cell Tower triangulation to get your location. Hell Turn off your GPS and you can still navigate because it is going to get your location based off Cell Tower.

Pick up a REAL GPS and see how much of a lock you can get indoors

I havent had any GPS issues. It takes a bit to connect but once it does, it is fine.
My bluetooth is ok. I usually leave the bluetooh in my phone on and just turn on the headset and it always connects with my other phones. This one i have to manually connect it most the time even when the bluetooth has never been turned off.

Just wondering if you use the fix for the GPS, if the bluetooth still works too.

I'm definitely keeping mine. I'm pass my 14 days anyways plus I haven't had any problems but the shutting off overnight issue one time.

um im keeping mine, its an amazing phone, why is everyone complaining about it?? Besides, it is the sexiest phone out. :)

Umm I have to disagree with you, If I didn't have a bunch of smartphones laying around my house, and actual GPS units that lock onto gps indoors I might have agreed with you.

I have a garmin, magellan, HTC Smartphone, The Vibrant, and a Blackberry bold. The only one having difficulty locating me indoors is the The Vibrant.

Okay so fine, lets say the vibrant is super sensitive and I need to be outside. I live in Los Angeles, its a clear beutiful sunny day. I have been driving around all day, the GPS on the phone doesn't work outdoors either.

Unless I get in a spaceship and fly up to the satellites, I don't know what else I or other people need to do to prove to you the phone has GPS problems.

i'm on the fence as well. my 14 days are up this coming wednesday and i'm torn on what to do. not only are the gps, bluetooth, and overall buggieness problems, but the calendar is a complete cluster. the biggest issue i have with the calendar is they removed the ability to change the reminder ringtone. the default is so quiet that i never hear it and have been missing appointments.

also, i'm concerned about samsung's competence to support a smartphone. when i first starting having issues with my vibrant i ran across a ton of behold II customer posts railing samsung. the whole situation seems to indicate that samsung really screwed up the whole situation. i'm concerned that their smartphone division just isn't good and many of the vibrant issues will never be fixed.

on the flip side, this phone's speed, amazing screen, and improved touch sensitivity may have me hooked. coming from a mytouch (original, not the slide), the vibrant is light years better in these three areas. no more waiting for apps to load, change screens, or lack of ability to use the voice recognition. no more touching the screen and have it not registering. no more delays and unrecognized keystrokes on the keyboard. and, the screen clarity and color vibrancy blows me away. now that i've experienced these improved capabilities, i could never go back to the mytouch. so, its either deal with the vibrant's issues, get a n1, or leave t-mo and get an evo.

if samsung's quality control wasn't completely inept, this would be an amazing phone. hands down, the best on the market.

the more i think about it, i just don't know what the heck to do!!

How about this, how about you call t-mobile, press 611, and say "cancellations," when a retentions rep gets on the line, expalin to them the situation. Just be honest. say, you know, you would love to stay with t-mobile, however your phone is giving you way too many problems, and ask them out of courtsey, if they mind notating your account, that you can have your 14day remorse extended another 14 days, otherwise you have no choice other than to leave t-mobile, because you don't want to be locked into a 2 yr contract on a defective phone.

Just a suggestion, I don't know if they will do it or not, but I don't see any reason for them not to be willing to work with you. Make sure you talk to retentions and not some regular custemer service rep. If the rep agrees to extend your remorse, you need to get his/her name, and their employee number and document this somewhere. Otherwise, in 1 month if you call to truely cancel, that notation will be mysteriously gone.

good luck

good idea, i'm going to give that a shot. i do know that tmobile's policy in the past was whether or not you keep the new phone, you are re-upped for a new 2 yr plan. i guess its the price you pay to play with a new phone.

either way, i still have to make the big decision of whether to stay or go. i doubt they will fix any of the issues in the next 2 weeks, so i'm really only buying myself 2 more weeks with the vibrant to make my decision.

We have 15 days as i was told and tomorrow is my last day. Ive had an iPhone the past two years that was unlocked and decided i didnt want to spend a lot for a iPhone 4 to still have EDGE. So i got this, hoping in two years that Apple decides to spread out with other carriers. And even if they do, im thinking Android will probably be ahead of them in two years as far as their OS anyways.

So it is a win-win for me. For the most part, mine runs fine and i dont have any real issues. One being that i have the phone set to answer to touching any key and it still makes me slide to answer, but that is a small bug. I dont like that my calender icon dont change the date on it everyday either and my bluetooth isnt as smooth as my iPhone was but it works. I just have to manually connect it more than id like.

My only decision now is do i want to insure the phone by tomorrow or not. I know we have a year and the T-Mobile guy said the understand that we dont like to be without a phone if it breaks so bring it to them during that year, but i dont feel confident that i can get it replaced without insurance. Deductable on the Vibrant is $130

I think making you sign a two year contract to the same phone is ridiculous. Thats a long time for one phone when they are pumping out as many new ones as they are. Im sure by next year they will have a better phone id like to get but ill be ****ed as far as what i have to pay for it.

I sent this to samsung and the phone goes back tomorrow.

I thought someone should read this,

quoted from XDA forrum
I could be wrong, but I suspect that there is a hardware problem. The GPS chip reportedly is new, a combo chip from Broadcom that handles Bluetooth, FM and GPS, as well as media processing. That Broadcom design, which is supposed to offload some of the GPS processing from the phone's CPU to the combo chip, could have internal problems. Or Samsung could have designed the surrounding circuit wrong. Or the manufacturing QC could be flaky. The symptoms reported from testing different Galaxy firmware versions indicate that Samsung engineers may have been trying to work around some inherent problem in the hardware by buffering, interpolatation, etc., of the GPS outputs. And the reported symptoms come and go mysteriously over time. If the underlying output from the new chip is unreliable, no software miracle can truly fix it. But Samsung might succeed in faking out most of the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, with a software workaround. end of quot

I am not so sure that Samsung will really be forced to make this good in the marketplace with a recall. So far, as a PR matter, the manufacturer is amazingly unscathed by the GPS fiasco. Search Google news and you will find only a couple of minor online trade-press articles that even mention the Galaxy GPS defect. And all the lazy "reviewers" never really get past the first impressions and gee-whiz over the screen. They don't get out and do real field tests of GPS apps. (I agree that, absent the GPS problem, the phone is stunning. But a defective GPS on an Android is a deal breaker. GPS is core functionality that has to just work.)

It looks like it is a hardware issue and that the chip that they are using is of poor or inconsistent design, this would explain why some phones seem to work and others do not.

Mines going back!

I cant get the gps to work and the bluetooth is spotty and the phone is laggy as well.

Because of this I believe that your real problem is hardware......

If Samsung would post to some forums or send out a press release about this issue you might stop the backlash, Instead I get from your tech department try this and try that and we'll get back to you tomorrow (which they never do} all the while knowing that your suggestions will never work and your just trying put off the truth as long as possible. A very bad business practice in my opinion.

I will be returning your problematic phone as I don't need your problems in my life, I have enough or my own,,,,,,and if this is any indication of how your company does business, I can assure you that I will never buy another Samsung product again,

a disheartened customer.

And this is the same old BS response, that I got back from my letter. They didn't even read it.
I believe that we are buying from a typical BS company.........

I'm keeping mine unless something I've not seen develops. GPS is not perfect but neither is my dedicated Garmin GPS. My Vibrant GPS works 98% of the time Garmin 99.5%. The rare times the Vibrant has a GPS issue seems to be indoors - this isn't unusual. Everything else on the Vibrant is outstanding.

The only thing that might be more attractive is the soon to be released Epic from Sprint which will have 4G (not too big a deal for me yet because my city doesn't have 4G at the moment), a slide out keyboard (downside is that the phone is thicker and heavier), and an LED flash. However, Sprint wants $200 for the phone and $20 more per month for service. At Tmo the phone + accessories were free for me for customer loyalty.

i'm keeping mine. it is a monster of a phone. first, it is one of just a handful of phones for tmo that supports 2.1, and soon 2.2. it is the most powerful phone they have, and there is nothing that can come close to the sheer beauty of the screen. plus, 2 gigs of app space? finally, i don't have to keep deleting apps whenever i find a new one. the only other phone that came close to this phone, was the nexus one. however, for the time being, they have been taken off the google shelves. it isn't without it's flaws. i would like a flash on my camera, but it's nothing major. the pros out weigh the cons by a long shot. for those who have major complaints about this phone, i honestly think they are way too finicky. especially since tmobile doesn't have any other phone that can rival with this one!

One of the few good things about living in California, we have 30 days! :D:p;)

Ya only 1 of the good things, amongst the other million horrible things like paying almost 10 percent sales tax, dramatic cuts to the State University and University of California system, crippling the education system, stupid taxes imposed on everything from your utility bills, cable, to almost 30 bucks a month extra in taxes on my cell phone bill, because I live in cali and get taxed the most on my several lines. While taxes are collected, they are wasted, and hospitals all over the state have closed down, especially in poor uninsured communities that need it the most. Lets not forget the crazy car insurance premium because non liscenced and non insured illegals are driving all around the state and crashing into us, yes this happend to my father. Oh by the way, if you are an illegal and you crash into someone, when the cops show up, they dont do anything to you, you get to just leave the scene since you have no Drivers Liscense, no social security, nothing. They just let you walk away. Next time I crash into someone I'm going to pretend I'm illegal. Oh and the property taxes, aren't they wonderful, twice a year get to pay thousands of dollars, just to watch sacramento waste that money. Lets not forget about the way we pay people making min wage. Really? I have no clue how these people even survice in this state on min wage. Discusting.. To top it off we have an idiot bodybuilder as our governor. At least we get a 30 day remorse period on our cell phones.
But i really am glad about the 30 day remorse period.

Agree 100% SamsungV, be glad you don't live in Bell, Ca. I am glad I don't live there.
