Who's Upgrading to the S3?

Do you plan on buying the S3?

That I do not know. I do know that my friends that have Republic are not the "tinker with technology" types. Republic appears to have only one phone. Next time I see my friends I can ask about data speeds and cap.
Thanks. Maybe they could be a viable alternative, if they update their cell lineup at some point.

I was thinking along the same lines. They really do need to expand their phone options for me to consider switching. Yes I get frustrated with VM's lack of speed, however we are paying the same amount for three phones as we paid for one on "The Death Star".

Sorry for a n00b question, but does VM means Virgin Mobile or Verizon Mobile?

Thanks. BTW, I went online and read that Virgin Mobile is a prepaid service without contract. Just curious, how does this work?

You buy a phone outright - there are specific ones made to work for Virgin Mobile. Then you go to their website to activate the phone, pick and pay in advance for a monthly plan, and you're set. You can either use a credit/debit card or buy Top Up cards in stores to pay (kind of like a gift card).

if you started service today your plan would be good through July 8th, when you'd pay for another month of service.

They also have a lot of good info on their website: www.virginmobileusa.com

That is like contract, isn't it? But you can also choose not to pay if you don't want to use it anymore, is it?

You pay each month that you want to use the phone. You don't get a bill, nor are you obligated to use the service for any amount of time.

It is referred to as "prepaid" because you pay before you use the service. In post-paid/contract, you receive a bill after you use the service and pay for v what you already used.

Thanks for clarifying. But don't prepaid have a limit? For example, I top up $10 but used up everything. I would need to buy a top up card, isn't it?

Can't remember because it has been a long time since I touch on prepaid services.

Since you seem to be in Singapore, this info will not be valid. Don't know if VM is available there but if so, will not be affiliated with VM carriers in other parts of the world. They seem to be completely independent of each other and have different rules.

We don't have VM here. But I was just wondering how prepaid works in US.

I called a local RadioShack, and they confirmed that they have the S3 in stock, $399. I kinda want to wait a bit and see if a root method comes out soon, since the S3 has already been out for so long on other carriers. It would be easier to TiBu some of my apps instead of re-doing everything again later.

I'm planning on making the switch as soon as possible and although I am willing to shell out the $400 for it, I will wait to see if I can save any at all in the next month or so. If after a month there are no sales on the phone, I will just dish out the four bills.

I wanted to get one when they were first available, but some stuff came up and I was thinking of waiting just a bit. However, I doubt there will be a sale for at least a few months, so if I'm going to end up getting one before then anyway, might as well be sooner. I put off buying one from RadioShack because I also wanted to see if I could use my balance.

Indeed. If I can't use my balance, there's really no reason to buy one from VM. I'm more likely to buy from Best Buy and get Black Tie on it...or from Radio Shack if it goes on sale.

I'll be watching this phone closely to see if/when it goes on sale. I really don't want to wait for the end of the year...as we all know a year from now, the S4 will be on VM for like $399. I sorta think you gotta act fast, or hold off for the next phone. Unless you like 2 year old phones.

In the end, I could easily keep my EVO V for the rest of the year. ;)

Another thing I don't want to run into is where supply runs out, and VM can't offer replacements. The later you wait into the life cycle of a phone, the more likely you are to run into the issue that several EVO V users experienced. VM ran out of them, and couldn't offer a direct replacement. Some were offered the Victory as a replacement, while others were just SOL :(

Price is listed at $429 at Radio Shacks site, BB etc, $399. So if people go to RS and it rings up at $429, do a price match. I know people here said they did get them at RS for $399 though.

I am probably sticking with my Evo for more. The s3 looks sweet but I can't really justify buying yet another phone when my service is so spotty around here.

Still hoping that the Evo LTE makes it to Virgin before the holidays, that's what would definitely make me give up the 3d quite quickly. :D
OB

Not yet. Come black friday, I may change my tune. Until then, my vevo is doing great and I can't justify buying another phone at such a high price yet. The reason I'm on virgin is to SAVE money, not blow more on a new expensive off-contract phone every year. Plus I actually have wimax here (Seattle area) but not LTE, yet.

I'm trying to stay at roughly $100 every 6 months towards a phone, which keeps me at roughly $50/month total for service plus phone. (well $40 the first year on the $25/mo plan) If I wait until black friday, I'll be able to maintain that pace. Hopefully the bf price will be well under $300, maybe $200? I can wait. LTE should be much better here by then.

In the meantime, I'll get a preview on my wife's new galaxy victory. I really like HTC, and not so hot on the Samsung phones thus far, so that could be a problem. If prices work out I might end up trying to score an htc one cheap and switch to ting or something like that.

11/2010 - Samsung Intercept $200
11/2011 - HTC Wildfire $100 (black friday)
6/2012 - HTC Evo V $300
11/2013 - ???
