Root Who's used Koush's ROM?

Hmmm... I like what I read... ;) Thank you!

Is there anyway we cannot have the apps on the bottom though? I just like the plain 3D drawer. I don't like that Iphone look.. Or is that a must?

Yes, just don't drag any apps down into the dock area and you won't have any apps there :p

anyone have some screen shots? I saw the NexTheme shots, but for that I would need to do the Clockwork recovery it seems

You can leave them empty. When it first loads it doesn't have any shortcuts placed there by default.

Also, put the phone in landscape mode and see how smooth the page transitions are. If you barely swipe the page it will transition so slow and smooth...I played with it for about 5 minutes, just mesmorized! Haha

I'm a madman. I finally got this all working and stable, and now I'm going to reload JIT on this baby.

WHY MUST I TINKER?

For those of you who were wondering, my battery life is just fine. Great, actually, on par with the ESE ROMs. I know some complaints about battery life with this ROM have been made, and he just released 5.0.4.1 (I think is the new version number) that may address that issue, but mine is just fine.

OK, having never used any of the master's ROMs nor his seemingly new apprentice, I have to ask a couple of things:

1) According to the instructions on the CM forum page, Koushik says to install ROM mgr and use it to install his ROM - but I read earlier in this thread that Fadelight just used the adb format commands for DATA / System / Cache and installed it as a normal update.ZIP - am I getting this correct?

2) That Helix thing - it's included by default? Or is that a modification I have to make afterward?

3) Do I even need Clockwork, especially if I use the method Fadelight outlined?

That is my guess.. anyway I am going to Try it out.. if I like it I will install Clockwork and update the theme

The theme is a zip file. I don't see why you couldn't just change it to update.zip and install through SPRecovery. If the ROM installs that way, the theme should work too.

See that's what I thought too.. And can we use other kernels? Like Adamz and Chevy's? They should work too right?

Yes, you can do it his way and it should work fine. Personally I switched to Clockwork, but it really shouldn't matter which way you do it.

If you mean the launcher with icon docks, then yes, it's included in the ROM by default.

3) Do I even need Clockwork, especially if I use the method Fadelight outlined?

Nope, not really. Just follow the ADB/SPRecovery instructions given.

Answers in bold.

I haven't tried, but you should be able to switch the kernels. The one that comes with it is pretty damned good though. Even at 1000 it's fast as hell.

1) yeah you got it correct

2) it is already installed

3) no I don't think so, maybe for the themes but not from what I am reading..

I am planning on just pushing the update like mzimand did.. I have my current stuff already backed up

@johngalt: helix launcher is the dockable launcher that's based off original launcher. There's also a launcher2 version (which is the base of helix launcher) which is included in the ROM.

I've been on this ROM since v1.0 and it's improved dramatically since. Each new version had great improvements over the past. Flashing recoveries isn't hard, and ROM Manager makes it even easier.

There is a learning curve to using his Clockwork Recovery, but once you get used to it you realize just how powerful it is. It actually gives you more options than SPRecovery. It's not all that hard to use, the only thing I wish it did was use the camera button instead of pressing the enter button.

I also like how the names of the recoveries themselves don't really matter. In ROM Manager there's actually an option to rename your backups. It's easier to organize.

Settings --> application --> menu key --> Filter --> all --> find home, remove defaults.

As for clearing the Cache, I *think* that is done in SPRecovery / via ADB after booting into recovery. Unless they mean to use the same clear cache right there where you remove the defaults for the Home....

That menu is not there..

Settings >> Applications.. but nothing under that

OK, making a Nandroid backup of my latest iteration of the UD7.0 with my apps and such, plus did an
Code:
adb pull /data/app .
to pull copies of all the apps in /data/app to my local HD.

Then, I format the system, (and I promised I was not going to try another ROM so I would never have to do this again!) and then I am flashing to the Koushik ROM.

Wish me luck! Or else buy me a case of Red Bull....

I am using it right now also its very fast and smooth o.c'd at 1000 and not one f.c or freeze up or reboots...i just upgraded from v1.0.2 to v.5.0.4 this morning it has 7 home screens and the 3d launcher works flawless its an awesome rom the best ive used thus far i also installed the Nextheme...how can you go wrong with cyanogens name on it???

Hmmm, something ain't right in this weird place.

There is no joy in Mudville. I made a Nandroid backup, then formatted SYSTEM, DATA, AND CACHE, and then pushed the cyanogen ROM to SDCard as update.zip, ran update, it said it was done, then rebooted and *poof* - stuck at Moto logo.

Sigh. Always my !$%!$#%^!#% phone lol....

Let me see where I went wrong at....
