Why do I want the thunderbolt?

Thunderbolt isnt perfect but I wouldnt give it up for any current Verizon phone or any of the upcoming Dual-Core Phones. But I prefer HTC to Samsung and Moto.

The thing I am worried about is when they will discontinue the unlimited web, which I want. So I'm worried if I wait too long that will be gone, but I'm not sure if I would be grandfathered in if I got the unlimited web.

So lets say April 26th comes up, I go and get the TB and unlimited web. They discontinue the web the next day, I get grandfathered into it and then a few days later the bionic would come out. Would I be able to return the TB and keep the unlimited web or would I lose that on the return?

Thanks in advance, not even sure this makes sense.

You only have 14 days to return it. After that...you are stuck with the device you have. So if the Bionic comes out in May...you cannot exchange your T-Bolt for it cause you would have had it for more than 14 days. If the Bionic is the device you want...take the TB back within your 14 day "worry free guarantee period" and DO NOT get a different device...just stick with what you had before the Thunderbolt and wait until the Bionic comes out.

If Verizon announces new pricing plans for data, that will apply to all new devices but will not affect you because you have already "locked" in the unlimited 4G pricing. Does that answer your question?

LOL, I just want to know the positives of the phone, since I've only really seen negatives.

The same things that many people complain about are the same things that many people think are the best features of the phone.

- I love the camera. Some people have complained about it...but I think they either had a defective device...or were intoxicated :D. J/K...but I seriously think it's the best camera on an Android device thus far.

- I love the screen (although a slight step down from SAMOLED...it's better than the DroidX, but not going to be as nice as the screen in the Bionic). Bottom line...the screen quality definitely isn't going to sell people on the phone, but it's not going to deter them either.

- Screen size and aspect ratio is perfect. I don't like the aspect ratio of the Droid X as much.

- It's fast...the phone is fast, the 4G is fast...it's just fricken fast :D

- And this will go along with the comment quoted below...STRONG Dev community supporting this device. Already lots of ROMs, lots of themes/skins...more on this below.

And I also would like to root it, I think. When I had the MT4G I rooted it and was happier with it rooted then when it wasn't, so I'm not sure if that factors into this phone or other ones, I read that the bionic would be harder to root? :S

There is a reason I bought the Thunderbolt and not the Bionic. Motorola F'ed up when they took their stance against rooters. I won't buy another Motorola product until they change this. Sure...I'm not going to kill their bottom line alone...but I refuse to support a company that turned their back on the people that made their Motorola Droid popular and work like it was supposed to. The Droid was lackluster at best when running stock Moto firmware. The rooted community fixed their problems. I wonder if they were tired of being shown up by "hackers"? :D They keep putting motoblur on every device they put out there...so it's obvious they don't listen to their customers. Many people like Sense but for those that prefer stock, it probably wont deter them from buying the device. I for one would have to be MADLY in love with a piece of hardware to put up with Motoblur! /end rant

But yeah, root privileged and unlocked bootloader is an important thing for many of this. While HTC is walking a fine line with the bootloader, it's been cracked and therefore it works for me. The dev community is very strong and I don't see that changing soon. Custom ROMs, custom kernels, themes...these are already plentiful and offer improvements over the stock offering. HTC Hub was blocked by Verizon but we have about 50% of this functionality back thanks to the Dev community...soon it will be 100% restored I'm sure.

So in conclusion, this phone isn't perfect...but the Bionic has a much bigger downside IMO. Everyone has their own opinion and I don't expect Everyone to agree. I'll live with the 1400mAh battery...I won't live with motoblur and locked bootloaders. Would Dual core be better? Sure, I wouldn't throw a dual core processor out of bed for eating crackers...but I also think it's a little over hyped this time around. Wait until next year...then Dual core will start to gain real advantages. Until there is something that a phone with a dual core processor can do that a single core cannot (seriously...someone give me an example here :D)...it' s not a big deal. But this was a big reason for me to only go with a one year contract. This phone isn't future proofed as well as the Bionic or other dual core phone are.

One thing I'm going to put to rest, this isn't the phone after my dream phone. My dream phone is a few phones after this phone......

Yeah...I completely agree. It's certainly not my dream phone but it's the best Android phone I've owned (or even handled) to this point.

agreed further. I would love to have something similar to evo 3d and that would be my dream phone. Thing is just as powerful as upcoming HP touchpad, adreno 220 rocks.

sean76, --- yes, it was at one of the shows that he said he played with the Bionic , I forgot what show he said he was at,... ... not in the store, .... ... I believe he was telling the truth, seens he had no reason to make that up..

..also, he was not trying to sell me the Thunderbolt, he was handling my return that was cleared by customer service, so I don't believe he was trying to "sell me the Thunderbolt" ... in fact, his advice was to wait a bit and check out the new phones that will be releases soon.

and.... Call me crazy but yes, nice screen, ease of use and good battery ARE actually an important factor to me ..

However, I do sort of agree that after playing with the Thunderbolt for 2 weeks, the iPhone, aside form its ease of use, great screen and good battery, ..... does seem to be lacking a bit of luster. At this point, I think my plan is to limp along on my old Env Touch, and see what phones come out soon....

I love how everything in the Thunderbolt forums seems to turn into a iPhone vs. Android debate... Seriously, for the topic at hand, go to the store and play around with one, read up on the positives and negatives, and make your decision. I personally love mine but I knew what I wanted in a device and this thing fit the bill.

I was thinking the same thing. I'll see someone asking about an android phone and then some random person starts talking about iphone and i get this confused look on my face because nowhere in the conversation did iphone even need to be brought up.

It does show something. That nomatter what we do, where we go or what we talk about, the iphone is always on our minds. And that is where i can give apple major props.

So I definitely want to root my phone when I get it. I guess the bionic is crossed off my list now, what about upcoming phones and the rooting capabilities with them? Any others I should cross off my list as well?

I wouldn't cross the bionic off your list just yet, or any future device that they say you won't be able to root! The developers around here are good enough that they will figure out a way :D

You don't have any idea what you are talking about. And you couldn't be more wrong. There are literally dozens of phones with better operational specs. And no matter if you like it or not, Tbolt is really just an Evo with more Internal storage and ram. It has the same processor, crappy screen, software, camera. Oh and you don't even get the HDMI out that the EVO has.

Most of the newer phones have much better hardware. Deal with it.

I'm not saying the Tbolt isn't a good phone. But it's a good phone in it's own right, it doesn't need you in here making it sound better than it actually is. It's good, but it's technology is getting older. No dual-core, no high res screen(very noticeable even if you think it wouldn't be), no HDMI out, no NFC, bad camera performance(this is undeniable just search these very forums if you don't believe me) and it doesn't even launch with Gingerbread installed, tho they promise it will get GB "soon". Also, single core chipset matters, even if you refuse to admit it. It matters more going forward too. So in 1 or 2 years it's gonna be a huge difference with gaming apps especially.

Yeah, same processor as the evo :/ you have no idea what youre talking about. Its the newer snap dragon. The camera hardware has been updated.

To buy or not to buy the TB.... No more 1 year contracts after 4/17... (jeopardy theme plays)...

Exactly what Im thinking. The only thing deterring me is the price. I think 250 for a 2 year or what is it 319 or something like that for a 1 year is just too much for this phone. They need to drop the price to 150, like theyve offered a few people, or even just 200 and Id feel a lot better for it. Im sure theres absolutly zero chance of that happening anytime soon, let alone before the 17th though. Its hard for me to justify at its current price.
