Root Wi Fi Tether Problems

This is just a theory but i am interested to know if all the people having to replace the superuser app to get wifi tether working used the root.zip. It sounds like the real problem with our device is that we don't all have the newest su binaries or superuser app because some are using the root.zip and others are using the pre-rooted roms. The ones in SuperROM and all the stock b11 roms SHOULD be the newest versions and my tether works without superuser modification.

Let us know how you rooted if you are having to replace superuser to get tether working. Thanks

edit: if you used the pre-rooted stock roms make sure you specify if it is the _2.zip or the older ones.
 
does tether work natively for you guys... if you make a custom activities shortcut or use this and turn on wifi hotspot, do you get an error? sorry if this has been covered i'm still in research mode...
 
I can say, I did use that root.zip
I wanted to get the OTA update, rather than wait, so managed to lose root, and needed it. as well as Junkies AIO.exe, (tried both, since I had downloaded an early pirate theme ... yo-ho-ho).
I solved the tether problem, with SuperUser replacing Supersu.
But, then, I installed your ROM, SuperR-B11 and had no need to use root.zip, or (probably) install SuperUser?
I used your first ROM than did a "dirty" install of your smaller second "fixed" version,(working fine too thanks).
But, I used it on this ROM also, so can't say IF I needed to, but did, because I figured I needed to.
Good point, got me wondering now.

we don't have wifi tether in the activities list unfortunately...unless i overlooked it. Junkie2100 got the tether menu to show by modifying settings.apk, but it did not function. I don't think anyone has reported trying the app you posted. It would be great if it worked :)
 
the app i posted is really just a shortcut/widget to that menu... when i try to use it i get an error immediately... this can probably be fixed and would work better than a third party app...
 
The tether app is COMPLETELY f'd. Now asking me if I'm rooted. I know i am, with superR's flashable and deodexed b11. Need to get tether working. Was ALMOST working before, but now nothing. Tried using cwm super user, installed but wouldn't run. So, still on chainsdd. All i wanted was b11....now it seems to be railing me right up the hot spot.
 
And, I was house sitting for a friend in St. Paul. Set up tether, and was using my Nexus7 tablet, Friday. A bit slow going, but tethered (and rooted).

The next day,same location, same settings, another tether "attempt" only it's "out of range", no amount of setting change made a bit of difference.

What the ???
 
I am using the System_Prep_JB_warp2 and stock_b11_nobloat_deodexed_root_2. Believe that's the one I made a backup of and just restored it a little bit ago. Not even gonna BOTHER trying to tether cuz when I did before, I'd lose root. That was with the most recent tether, downloaded https://www.dropbox.com/s/1v8rlsh9qtqppi7/com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether..apk. So, just waiting for a FOR SURE thing. Got updated binaries in superuser chainsdd. Plus, any tether I tried didn't have any clamping option.

I started using pdanet with foxfi key back when Shin temporarily released AA4...I could never get the phone wifi tether to work on that rom. So I resorted to pdanet. Since switching to jb stock pdanet doesn't work. I guess I need to install a b11 ROM...any suggestions on a ROM that has functioning camera, video playback and mms as well as wifi tether?
 
This might not be right thread but this is where my problem comes into place.....After Jellybean there is no option (that i see anyways) that enables "Always on Mobile Data"...Is there any option for this....seeing as my mobile data turns off during tether after a while and i have to wake my phone up....thanks
 
I use keepscreen.apk to keep phone awake, plus in settings/developer options there is a check box to stay awake while phone is charging

ok, but there used to be option to have always on mobile data under mobile networks on b09 guess they thought that was a bad idea haha
 
Ok so I used this modded WiFi tether for root users and used these settings:

device profile- Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
setup method- Netd (master)
WIFI-driver reload- check!
Routing fix- check!
Preferred dns- getprop net.dns1(in terminal emulator)
Alternate dns- getprop net.dns2( || )
Disable Wake-lock- check!

All other check boxes unchecked (with the exception of WIFI encryption if you want it)

Let me know if it works on b11... :)

I finally got around to testing this, and unfortunately that apk dos not work for me. However, I was able to get infrastructure mode running on this device by using the settings posted by money15 and wifi tether for root users from the play store :)
 
Yeah ive tried everything in this thread..still wont work, ubuntu picks it up but it wont connect
Meh i just went to easy tether, seems to work better anyways
 
what worked for me was downloading SuperSU from the playstore updating the SU binares and unistalling the superuser app that came with the custom rom. went smoothly and now have fully functional tether :) hope this helps all with problems still
 
i finally got this working yesterday by using my original settings that worked back on jellybean, minus i used netd ndc(master). but it was rocking over 500kb/s. that was the average, i know its not great but it worked for watching hulu
