Help Widget Problem

Hey guys I was wondering if you could help me with an issue I'm having. Ever since doing the trick so that all apps would install onto my SD card by default I have been having problems with widgets. This only seems to be happening with widgets from programs I installed after doing the trick.

I've tried moving the programs I want to use the widgets from back onto the phone memory but it doesn't seem to make a difference. The problem I'm having is that when the programs are first installed the widgets work but if I ever delete the widget and want to place it somewhere else it's no longer on the widget list.

I cant help you with that but what trick did you do to get all apps to SD ? I am having a big problem with losing all my memory ? I would try to delete the app and then reinstall it and leave it on the internal memory. Just a thought ...

I haven't done that trick, but my problem is similar. Some of my widgets have disappeared from my list even though it is installed. The widgets have stopped working and I can't get to appear even though I reinstalled the app

Widgets don't (in general) work form the SD card. I think it's to do with the fact that the card is mounted at the end of the boot process, after the OS initialises the widgets.
I've enables this apps2sd 'trick', but (IMHO) it's really more trouble than it's worth.

I think rooting is probably the only real option, so that the SD is mounted properly as part of the filesystem. Not got up the courage to do this yet...

I agree.

tip: read, read more and then read some more again.

Ask questions before you do anything, not after :)

We'll all help.

Nah. There are always ways round things.

If you used this method to install to SD;

http://androidforums.com/desire-tips-tricks/160560-force-apps-install-sd-without-root.html

Then do this with your troublesome widgets;

1) Uninstall Non working widgets.
2) Switch back to storing software on the internal memory, (using link instructions) by entering 'adb shell pm setInstallLocation 0' in the SDK shell.
3) Restart the phone.
4) Reinstall widgets and check they are on the phone memory under applications
5) Switch to storing software on the SD card again by entering 'adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2' in the SDK shell (see link).

Just be mindfull to do this if you are installing any widgets off the market - some work, others don't as SiHa is right, the SD card is mounted way after the widgets are loaded.

I've read, and read more. Just not read some more yet. :D
Really, I can't be arsed to be honest. I think it's not having to time to mess around when (if) it goes horribly tits-up.
Thanks, though, I'll certainly come knocking when I finally get round to it.

widgets work fine from sdcard in general
the reason most people get problems with widgets is because they use the force install trick but they are also using a custom rom with apps2sd+

if you are using the latter then pm installlocation should be 1 and not 2 as a2sd+ works by installing to phone memory and moving via script
if set to 2 then the dalvic gets moved to ext partition, links are broken and the app is on froyo apps to SD instead

I think we'll have to agree do disagree on that one.

I'm using the standard ROM, as supplied on the phone by T-Mob, and FroYo OTA. Since using the force install trick, I can't think of a single widget that functions correctly after moving / installing it to SD.

Default text input keeps reverting from SWYPE as well, but at 10MB I'll live with it.

certain apps dont work well on sdcard i agree
im just saying i didnt tend to have troubles with widgets unless using the scenario i described

i havent checked every widget though
