Help wifi/4G trouble

I received my S4 today and setup wifi. When I connect to my wifi it shows 4g icon on top too. Is this how it is supposed to be? It looks like phone is connected to both.

Can others check if connected to wifi if 3g or 4g still shows up on top?

Hi Steven. I don't get a 4G icon with Wi-Fi on. Try turning off mobile data and Turning it back on and see if it goes away.
 
On what side of the notification bar is the wi-fi icon? If it is on the left it just
means that there is wi-fi but you have not connected/configured it yet. When
you are connected the 4G icon is gone and wi-fi icon is on the right. Tap on the
wi-fi to connects.
 
Just got my S4 yesterday. It also shows both the wifi connection and the 4G symbol at the top. I did notice that the little arrows underneath that show activity only light up under the wifi when that is what I'm connected to. Would be nice to only have the 4G showing when that is what I'm using.

I just think it is very confusing, my Note 2 and S3 both only showed what was connected in the status bar not both so I thought I had a defective unit. I would love to hear from other Verizon customers if they are seeing the same thing.
 
The reason I don't see the 4G icon may be that I have T-Mobile which has wifi calling. That may be the difference between mine and Verizon's.
 
I don't think it sucks I am just trying to understand why I see 4G and Wifi connection when I am connected to wifi. When I have no wifi connection the Wifi icon goes away hence I would think 4G would go away when connected to Wifi.

It DOES suck with WiFi in that it tells you WiFi is connected when it's not, and vice versa, and it's ambiguous. (Based on my ATT experience. Hopefully your Verizon one will be better.)
 
verizon s4 here. i'm currently connected to wifi and the 4g notification is NOT in the task bar.

i think the 4g signal goes away when the phone verifies it has established an internet data connection through wifi. the user manual probably clarifies this, but who reads those things anyway?
 
Other Verizon customers confirm the same thing I have seen on my phone, very strange why it is not consistent. By the way mine was made in China, how about yours?
 
same here. It will show both, BUT NOT always.

I can get it to only show wi-fi-... then my k-9 email interupts and 4G lights up.

speaking of which... k-9 requires SSL on the s4, but not my s3
 
think I got it... ended the free trial and disabled the app.

I have a feeling MANY will be looking for this fix as the phone just hit my BB today..
