Root Wifi problem with GingerVillain update 2.6

Hi,

I rooted and flashed Gingervillain 2.5 last week and all seemed to be going well. I saw that gingervillain 2.6 was released on the weekend, and decided to install it.

I've been having problems with my wifi since then though. I seem to be able to connect to my wifi - it says I'm connected in wifi-settings. But if I try to look at a web page or visit the market etc. I'm told that the network can't be found.
I can use wifi on my laptop as normal and I can access the net using 3G.

I was looking in Villain Setup on my phone and it says "Kernels/modules updates 2.6.38 (fixed wifi sleep/sysfs vdd level and added two-way call recording)".
Underneath this there are four options, one of which is "2.2 WiFi PM_FAST Module".

Will this fix my wifi problem? Or is there something else I need to do?

Thanks for your help.

try the pm_fast module. if that doesnt work you might want to try flashing a different kernel like manu 2.0 axi havs cfs/bfs

I will try that. However, my phone doesn't seem to want to connect to the internet via 3G either at the moment. Not sure if the two are related...?

it could be, i wonder if hes changed the ril on the rom.

backup the device and manually get the manu 2.0 havs axi kernel from xda and flash it.
you might see an improvement on wifi. the 3g could just be the apn settings.
if its not then its a ril issue

Thanks. I installed the PM_FAST Module, but nothing seems to have changed with my wifi.

I will try flashing ManU-2.0-GB-HAVS-AXI-128-CFS. Do I just copy it to my Sd card and install it? Is there anything else I need to do once it has installed?

thanks.

No, not really. Use SetCPU if you want to clock down to 128, but I believe that's true if GV kernels these days as well.

There's a RIL info checker app (I'm pretty sure it's linked in the dropbox thread) which you could use to see what RIL you have.

Right, I've installed the kernel. Phone seems to be behaving ok, I'm at work though, so haven't been able to check if my wifi issue has been resolved yet. Mobile internet seems to be working well though.

I installed RIL Infos and my version is: HTC-RIL 1.6.1062G

Not really sure what all that means to be honest. Do you guys think I should update this? And if so how and to what?!?

Thanks for your help, I'm pretty new to all this!

Ok, back at home now and wifi still isn't working. There is a full green wifi icon in my notifications bar, but I just get a network error message when I try to access the net/market etc.

Do you think I should try to update the RIL? I'm not sure how to go about this.

Anything else I could try?

Green is weird, as that implies that you have logged on to Google servers, i.e. there is a live internet connection somewhere.

I can't help but wonder whether the problem isn't in data or settings somewhere? You could try taking backups (Ti, even nandroid) and doing a factory reset, and see whether you still have a problem? If that fixes it, restore apps and data but not settings - if not, restore everything.

Or maybe a more gradual approach of selectively wiping some settings - I fixed a problem I was having with airplane mode the other day by clearing CyanogenMod settings.

If you want to try a newer RIL then I've been using the 2.2.1003G one from the dropbox (link in my sig). You just flash them like anything else. If it doesn't help there's another zip with your current RIL, so you can always flash back to that.

There is another RIL in there (2.2.0028HM) which works well for some, not at all for others (doesn't work at all for me - I lose mobile data if I use this).

I tried those two RILs, but neither made a difference. I'll give your other suggestions a go next and see how I get on.
Thanks.

Hmmm, I just tried to connect to a different wifi network and it all seems to be working ok. Seems that it's only my home wifi that I'm having trouble with.

Guess that's good news that it does work! And when I get home today I'll have a look at my wifi settings and see if I can get online there.

it could be that your wifi is on a channel where too many other wifi routers are also occupying
change it to something like 2 or 4

If you install an app like WiFi Manager or WiFi Analyzer and it can show you the signal strengths of different networks in each channel.

Hrmph, bit embarrassing this. I was just about to do the various techy stuff mentioned above, when my girlfriend suggested switching the router off and on again.... which seems to have sorted out my problem.

Thanks for the help anyway! Not sure why my phone wasn't connecting, as my laptop and ps3 were working normally with wifi.
