Root wifi tether not working on cm7- FIXED!! 5/21/11

I went ahead and flashed KingsRom instead since they have the sprint hotspot so I wouldn't have to deal with it. I may try to go back to the Destroyer V2 rom if this rom doesn't work out and try again. Thanks for all the help though.

my wifi tethering stopped working again. it connects but laptop says limited connectivity... any suggestions?

Guess it could be a couple of things. Have you changed anything in your set up lately? What version of Wifi Tethering are you using? What is your phone running? Kinda of a stupid question but, do you have signal? Did you try toggling wifi tether on / off? Do you have any access-control going on in the app?

well i got a new evo today. but last week its stopped working on my old evo as well. nothing stands out as far as changing anything. I set up my new evo with the same setup. cm7 and wifi tether 3.0. just like me old setup. yes i get signal. im able to connect but there is no internet on my ipod touch or laptop. im trying to get info from irc but i dont know how to use it that well and people on their are pricks...

Lol, I've never had the nerve to dabble in irc. Hmm.. well, try listing off your wifi settings? Are you using any form of encryption/authentication? Maybe those are creating issues with it?

I am using mine as open currently and it's connecting fine. I read that there are known issues connecting to certain devices (namely a DS), but if you could connect in the past, I don't know what would have changed that.

should be menu > settings... I'll check...

Hmm.. damn, I'm actually using the sprint hotspot. I think it is in menu > settings though, and they have the same basic options available.

Also, from your windows comp (guessing), try this and see what it says.

Start > run ; type "cmd"
"tracert google.com"

This is trace route, and will show (kind of ) where the failure is.

Well that command will just find where the issue is (IE. The phone or your device ((likely phone)) )

Is DHCP working? Are you getting a network address?

i tried looking but i dont know where to find any of that stuff
On your ipod touch, when you select the wifi network, there is an arrow pointing toward the right side of the screen. Click that. It will tell you a lot of networking stuff about your connection. Post that info.

On your computer, from the command prompt, type ipconfig and post that here too. (only important is the info from the wireless card).

I'm trying to see if your phone is giving out IP address (important). I'd guess that it is, but maybe not. Mine sometimes takes a while during that step.

Okay, I'm guess that number was something like 192.168.x.x with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 ?

That would be fine.

By the way, your IP address isn't really a security issue, sure some info can be found, but this (wifi tether) uses private addresses (which means that everyone could be using the same address in their home/business setting)

And subnet mask has no security / privacy related information. It just tells computers what part of the IP address is for networks and hosts.

But, it seems like you are getting DHCP addresses. Which is good.

Soo.. that means that the problem lies with your wireless tether. Have you tried the one included with CM7?

Menu > Wireless & Networks > Portable Hotspot ... ? Try that .

Is the connection on your iphone working? That one got an address...

Try the tracert just for fun on your laptop.

See if you can do this on your laptop
ping 127.0.0.1
from the command line. This is the loopback on your computer, it just tests the TCP/IP stack.

The info from tracert will be about the hops your computer takes to get to it's destination, again, not really important, but it will say if it can get to the hotspot.

Meh. Not til 2012. When have the Mayan's ever been wrong...? lol.

Any luck with wifi tether?

Okay, that was with 127.0.0.1? Thats good. That is actually just to see if the comp's networking stack is working. Which it is.

right. if you read the begining of this thread youll see that i restored and installed a older version of wifi tether to make wifi tether work. doesnt work this time though.

Hmm.. Well I'm trying it on mine (just put CM7 on). Seems to be working, but not as good as it was on sense. Could be signal related though. It was jumping out with "limited or no connectivity".... But now its working.

Oh, I'm using the built in tethering hotspot. I just downloaded CM7 this afternoon. The file was called update-cm7031-supersonic.zip or something like that. If you're curious.

Could it maybe be a bad flash?
