I think that hack with shortcut master lite requires root. The link I put in my previous reply takes you to a one click root process for the LG Volt.
There were some hacks early on that allowed you to enable wi-fi hotspot on the Volt but I'm pretty sure they all stopped working. The one that still works for me is the one mentioned somewhere in this thread that required both rooting, and using shortcut master lite. With that I can use wi-fi hot spot, Bluetooth tethering, or USB tethering, all without paying boost another dime for the data I'm already paying for in the first place.

You just have to upgrade your Boost plan to one of their newer versions. There's no price difference or anything, so it's kinda stupid that they make you jump through that hoop, but it's simple enough to do. Once on their new plan, your built-in Hotspot will work without any rooting required. You may have to wait til your next billing cycle for the change to take effect, like I did, but hassle-free Hotspot is worth the minimal effort and wait.

Actually, not even that. I just called them and said my hotspot wasn't working and they updated my account.
