Will the ascend on 4g with metro pcs?

WOW!!! Just saw the video and CNet review! (Not that I always agree with Cnet LOL)

But this time it looks more fair!

Check it out!

HTC Evo 4G Review (black, Sprint) - Smartphones - CNET Reviews

Since Cricket and Sprint have 'partnered up' so to speak, the chances of Cricket getting the EVO sounds more logical.

Priced at $199....it's a bargain but there's an additional mandatory $10 bucks a month for 4G. Hmmmm.....what will people who don't have access to 4G do?

Thanks for the info, Crumb! :)
I think the evo is too nice for cricket to get. They said it's sprints best phone, so I doubt we'll get it. The $199 is probably with a 2yr. Sprint contract. The x5 (or something similar) looks more realistic. I think it looks pretty nice. I like the rubberized back instead of the fingerprint collector that is the ascend. Oh, and C net are the ones who rated the zio higher than the ascend, so I take their opinions with a grain of salt.

I'm in total agreement that MetroPCS is basically practicing deceptive trade practices in selling this phone to users who think they are getting 3G and they know you won't be able to get it.

I'm really not sure their CSRs even know this however. Cricket and Metro have the WORST Cust Svc.

I don't know what users who don't find these forums do. Just give up eventually?

hahaha

Sad...really sad.

;)
This is the problem with companies like metro and cricket. They are more interested in getting new customers than they are in keeping the ones they have happy. It's very short sighted business practice imo. Every time they screw people over like this, every customer tells 10 friends how bad their service sucks.when will they learn? They can undercut the big guys on price, but if they would also treat people right, they could grow huge.

I agree. That thing is fugly. It looks like it would poke a hole in your pocket.

The more I look at it the more I like it!

It does have more of an industrial look but it has so much to offer! 4.1 screen is sooooo appealing and it has the goodies to go with it!

:D

Just a slight bit off topic here but, has anyone else looked at the title of this thread and then thought "Help me, I accidentally my fleshlight!" afterwards?

Well, to be fair...$5 bucks of that is for insurance. LOL Probably a rip off but I have it anyway.

Insurance and reliable 3G. I'd pay 65 a month if it meant I would have 3G that is 3G. And Metro insurance is a little different. If you lose or break your phone, you can get it replaced for 80 bucks with insurance. Now if you happen to have say the Optimus Q or Craft, then it's easily worth it to insure, but... if you're like me and have the ascend, then no not worth it at all. Cause the the price of the phone minus 80 > the extra five bucks a month until I leave my phone in my pockets when I do laundry high...

For the weather or the women? We have snow for the second time in a week down here, it's practically a blizzard to us!

Weather women, job security, the occasional racially motivated bar brawls (love those btw), just sounds like the place to be. I'd take you "theorhtical" blizzard to our actual blizzards anyday. But we were featured in a Super Bowl commercial...yay Detroit.

If you are in a city that supports 4G and you have the Ascened, you got screwed. The old 3G towers are the new 4G ones, so for dallas and detroit, there simply isn't 3G anywhere.
So what are you saying? Detroit changed all their towers to 4 G so now us Acsend users will be forced to use what format then??

Hello Everyone,
Boy, this is all new to me as I never use these Forums so please bare with me if I come across Forrest Gumpy or Helen Kellery, OK?? (LOL)

I just bought an Ascend from Metro PCS. I don't understand this rooting thing at all. And I can't seem to be able to get my computer to recognize my phone drivers. It always says drivers aren't found, but I'm pretty sure I have the correct ones.

It always seems like I am about a year behind in understanding all the new technology so once again this is seeming true now. So, if anyone wants to help guy out a little and answer some questions and explain a few things to me, I would really appreciate it. We can talk here, or on the phone, oir in Messenger, or e-mail. I just really need to find out a few things. Thanks in advance and I look forward to learning some new sh*t about this phone. Cya, Bill Netter

I'm not even sure that I posted this correctly?? Whoa?

LOL, no worries my friend, everyone is a n00b at some point.

Phone drivers: If you're using Windows XP or later, you may get a popup asking you what you want to do. If you have this, look for a choice that says PC Options.exe and run that. Doing so will bring up a new prompt that has 3 choices, the leftmost one being to install drivers.

If you do not get the popup, open My Computer (Computer in Vista and Win 7) and you'll see your phone listed as a device named Huawei. Double click on that, and then run PC Options.exe to get to the same point.

If you're using a Mac or Linux, someone else will have to step in and give you more info.

Once you get there, we'll take the next step.

1x from metro sux!!! I was thinking of switching to Virgin Mobile as they have 3g in my area and their unlimited plan is only $60 which is only $10 more than Metro. However, I would have to buy a new phone. They have the LG Optimus V and the Samsung Intercept. I don't know which is better, but they're both priced at $200.

On the other hand, Metro has 4g in my area but the phones are more expensive. They have the Samsung Craft for $300 and I'm not sure the operating system. They also have the Samsung Galaxy Indulge for $400. Their service is $10 cheaper.

Ohhh, decisions, decisions!!!!

The best way to decide this would be to think of how long you plan to keep the phone and carrier. If you plan to keep Metro, In the long run the 10 dollars less each month will add up. Also 4G, Not 3G for the price. I think the $400 will pay off in the long run. If you switch phones a lot though, It might not. In that case more a month but, Cheaper phone might be better. Just my opinion. :)

The ascend wont do 4G, 4G is LTE and Metro only has one Android fone that is 4G/LTE and that's the Samsung Galaxy Indulge for $399.

The Samsung Craft does not run Android, and the reviews I've read say it's complete crap, which leaves you buying a $400 phone in the Indulge. I've also seen comments that say Metro's 4G is more like 3G as far as actual speed. Honestly, if you want the speed, I would say go with the Optimus V on Virgin, as it's running 2.2, where the Intercept, at $50 more, is running 2.1. You can also opt for the $40 plan with Virgin if 20 hours (1200 minutes) of talk time a month is enough for you.
