Will the EVO 4G get Ice Cream Sandwich?

With the ICS event less than 24 hours away do you think ICS will make its way to the EVO 4G; I really do hope so I'be only had mine for a month, seeing as Google wants all Androids on the same firmware there shouldn't be any issues.
 
yeah i think that the only way to get ICS on the evo is to be rooted. i guarantee you that once google releases the source code that the devs will find a way to get it on the evo.
 
The Evo goes EOL very soon like in days. (EOL stands for End of Line) so it's very much of a doubt. See how long it took for our Gingerbread upgrade? Yeah...and with Sprint, they usually only let Android devices upgrade twice then they don't allow more upgrades cause they want us to buy a brand new phone like the Evo 3D or iPhone 4S. Sucks for us cause most of us are waiting for something that was as big as the Evo on launch.

As ocnbrze said, we'll get it most likely through our rooting devs.
 
Google plans to bring all the mish-mash together seeing as some devices are running Froyo, GB, and Sense 3.0 as well as Honeycomb, they plan to mix it all together on one firmware like Apple and their iDevices (cough cough iOS5) So I think the EVO 4G will defiantly be getting ICS and if not I will proceed to send my teardrops to Sprint in a plastic baggie.

If you're a stickler for correctness, EOL is End Of Life. And Sprint does not limit the number of upgrades you may qualify for. :)
 
There's no way that HTC will get it to the Evo. I had the HTC Hero for almost two years and the only way I got higher than 2.1 was through rooting. I'm sure that the root community will get it to us in some form, but my biggest concern is how well it will run, given that it's likely optimized on dual core devices that are becoming the standard.

Well, if you're coming from the Hero, then you must realize that development is still going on. There's even a 2.3.5 Sense 3.5 rom being developed right now so.........yea I agree that ICS will run better with a dual core phone but.....:)

Google has confirmed that Ice Cream Sandwich will also come to the Nexus S, according to Engadget. Two Google officials told the site that the company is "Currently in the process for releasing Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus S. Theoretically [it] should work for any 2.3 device."


The phones that run Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) are: HTC's Desire, Desire Z, Desire HD, Droid Incredible, Droid Incredible 2, Evo 4G, Incredible S, and ThunderBolt; LG's Optimus 2X and Optimus One; Motorola's Atrix 4G, Droid 2, Droid Pro, and Droid X; Google's Nexus One and Nexus S; Samsung's Galaxy S; Sony's Xperia X10; and T-Mobile's G2 and myTouch 4G.

lol thanks for the clarification. Either way, we just know that the phone will not be sold by Sprint or made after October 2011.

By upgrade I meant by the Android X.XX.XX that they allow us to update by OTA.
 
No upgrade for stock Evos. No need really. I'll get IS when I get a new phone. Have to see how Wimax and LET play out.
 
even tho i am very happy about ICS and would loooooooooveeee to have it on my EVO 4G, i highly doubt it will make it to us...

why? a few reasons:
- EOL being imminent
- I am sure ICS takes more space than Gingerbred 2.3, i dont think the phone will have much storage at all after installation
- HTC and or sprint didnt even pushed Sense 3.0 to us, u think they will with ICS?
- newer models of the phone already exists with more potential (EVO3D)

now, can it be possible? i think so... i think if HTC were to push a "vanilla" ICS to us, without sense, that it may be plausible... again i dont even know how much memory is needed for the OS.... so that alone can crush our dreams
 
If the Evo gets ICS i'll probably ditch my Epic for one. The Evo is one of HTC's best selling phones and it would be silly for them to not configure ICS for the Evo.
