Help Will the unlocked HTC Desire HD work in India?

let samsung nexus s come very soon in india, then no one gonna buy htc, it should be a lesson for htc :) let them loose heavily on their business by neglecting our country ;)

I've just noticed that the DHD is being sold in India for 28,000 Rs, which is around 616 US$, can that be ?!!


I can't find ANYWHERE online that will sell it for less than 800$....

If that is indeed the case, HOW CAN I ORDER ONE FROM INDIA ?!

you can order one from any UK based websites.. all the info is der in the below thread..

but u will have to wait for long... transferrin money to the UK has a lot of hassles unless u have a paypal account.. and den u wnt knw how much customs u will be charged..

to be honest i am really tired of waitin now.. the desire's 2.2 update is available here and i have half a mind of goin for the original desire..
can anyone think of any oder drawbacks in the original desire oder dan the smaller but better screen...
people say that it has low internal memory for apps but as far as i know with android 2.2 i can install apps on my memory card as well...
 
original desire does have a very tiny internal memory, mere 140 MB, and even with android 2.2 which can install app on SD, you still need more main memory bcoz not everything goes to SD card, trust me you need at least 1 GB of internal memory

I have had the original desire for a week, and the only thing bad was the internal memory, rest its blazing fast with 2.2 and good quality screen good build quality

jus got d fone... whoaaa.. its awesome!!!!!!!!

dunno abt d grey mkt...

i got it in 35K inclusive of everything...

33K d bank charged me for the entire money xfer... n 2200 ws d duty..
dunno it mayb a couple of grands expensive.. but seems worth it...

so many features.. m a 1st tym android user n m feelin a bit dumb tbh.. loads to learn..

was lucky in dat regards.. placed d order on 17th.. expansys got fresh stock on 24th and my handset was somehow immediately dispatched..

even i agree it is a couple of grands expensive... but i cd nt wait any longer..

and 2 b honest.. i hate Samsung's build quality... so nexus s was never in d runnin 4 me.. neways.. njoy!!!

so did the courier guy delivered it to ur home and did he asked for the cust duty ?

one more thing, can u goto settings -> sd card and phone storage -> scroll down and see how much is the internal phone storage available ?

did it also came with 8 GB microsd card ?

and never mind if u paid a couple of grand extra, it will be worth ... I would have bought it too but still waiting to get it official in india, hope it happens early dec ...

u r the first one to own this phone here so lots of questions will be on ur way :)

yup he delivered.. asked me to check for damages and took d customs duty...

the internal fone storage i hv is 1.07GB... it did cme wit an 8gb card...

m totally new to android.. until nw jus got my old contacts n messages synced.. synced contacts to pc.. tweaked wit some personalization.. n put some new data in2 d fone.. i still hv to research a ton..HTC Sense.. Android market.. smhw cd nt get the home wi-fi to get synced to d fone.. if i can't do dat soon it'l b a bummer.. gprs wil cost me loads :confused:

m done playin 4 today tho.. n yea.. it is not locked but it is branded to vodafone... i get a vf logo on startup.. bt dat does nt bother me.. i already use d same connection..

d only thng dat bothered me was gettin dat battery cover off.. took me a good 3 4 minutes.. ws wrid i myt break it off :D
 
gr8 u r new to android but u will enjoy lots of functionalities

ur phone able to detect ur wifi ? if yes then its preety simple just click on it and enter ur password it will work just fine. let me know if u need any help pairing with ur wifi router

and yeah by default ur gprs conn will be continously on, add a data conn widget on ur home screen and switch it off if u r not using it

well gprs is nt an issue.. i shd hv vf settings 2 b able to connect n i dnt hv it yet..

i tried configruin d wifi d way u said.. it took d passwd bt it jus says connectin.. n den disconnectin after a while.. n den tryin to obtain ip address n tryin to connect again.. der's anoder thread wit d same issue.. wil hv to look in2 dat..
 
hmm well as its a fresh phone, there will me no harm and no loss of any data if u do a factory reset, sometimes androi it does wierd stuff, factory reset then starting from strach like input ur gmail account then sync etc then wifi .. really helps...

if u feel its a good idea then try that...

and android is all about connecting to internet, and u need to have ur wifi connected else grps will be slow and expensive...

btw which courier then sent from ?

and u said ur card was charged 33k INR, on expansys its 329.25 GPB right withour VAT .. so they should have charged only 329.25 GBP which is like 30K ... isnt it ?

if you are on pre paid then gprs is cheap, costs 98rs for 2gb of download(on vodafone and airtel atleast) and 2gb is really ALOT in mobile terms. my frend uses the same 98rs thing on airtel and iphone 4, works great! but on postpaid, its expensive as you said, as much as 250-300rs for 500mb download and then 10p/10kb.
if i knew expansys was that good, i would be having my phone with me long ago but anywayz nexus s is the phone im getting!

nexus s, along with psp phone and maybe a few more is highly rumored to come 9th december. hope its true :cool:

d day my a/c got deducted d gpb xchange rate ws 72.7 INR which according to 448 gbp comes to around 32.6K.. den d bank charged me sm nominal fee for foreign country remittance arnd 200 300 bucks..
and den d 2.2K duty.. which is arnd 8% of the total value.. comes to 35K

i got it from DHL.. der r pretty good wen it comes to trackin orders and helpin u wit d status...

n yea.. even i agree.. d fone will wrk gr8 wit a net connection...tbh even wifi wil wrk jus at home.. 3G is on d cards soon.. dat'l b d best..
 
the only worst thing about nexus s is its made by samsung ... and thier mode of update has been kies which is the most fu*** piece of software...as its nexus s, they should confirm they will go for OTA update rather than bloody kies .. if they do confirm that I can go for it too

but still I feel DHD + sense is the best combination so far...and HTC will soon get 2.3 on it for sure
 
okay on expansys.com, its 425.52 GBP excluding VAT.. then why they charged ur card 448 GBP ? I guess duty u paid 2200 INR is preety good but why 448 GBP instead of 425.52 GBP as displayed on expansys.com ?

aaah u r right man...

I can gurantee u will not regret it :)

just get a scratch guard for it, u may try the HD2 one, it has same screen size as DHD...and u must have seen its pouch on expansys too, its cool

do did u get to use to android market...try downloading and installing some apps from it..that also creates some horrible problems, even I have to factory reset my galaxy s to get it working fine...
