Help Will the unlocked HTC Desire HD work in India?

Guys can't use navigations as d fone is 4m uk.. I wil hv 2 purchase navigations for India for dat..... d maps on d oder hand wrks gr8.. dnt need d navigation as of now but wil purchase in a couple of mnths.. after all its good 2 hv al features:D

al who get d dhd once it launches here wil surely get it installed.. its a bummer I hv 2 buy it.. bt I'll get over it :)

N yea.. got d multipicture live wallpaper thng wrkin.. d show ur dhd screens thread from anneatkins reli helped... thanks 2 her :)

Well after playin for around 4 5 days.. here is what i feel about the much awaited DHD...

1. Build quality 9/10: will cut a point cos of the stubborn battery cover.. tho u dnt need to use it everyday.. but smthng simpler wd have been nice... i dnt knw why people crib abt the minute lines between the covers for sim/sd card and the fone.. i guess those r jus put in to give distinguishin lines to d fone and nt make it look jus lyk a solid block of brick.. i dnt see anyway dust or ne oder foreign particle wd go in d fone thru dat gap.. d fone looks sleek and gr8.. it smtyms is difficult to press d volume n power button.. but u get d hang of it soon... also no camera lens cover.. u hv to b careful here...

2. Screen 10/10: Though the ifone or d galaxy screen myt b better i am really happy with what i have on my DHD..

3. Android 2.2 10/10: Do i even need a reason why :D

4. Fast Boot 10/10: it delivers wat is promised.

5. Touch Sensitivity 10/10: i guess people who use their fone wayy too much experience a lag.. my usage has been pretty decent and i have nt experienced any kinda lag.. it is pretty smooth.

6. Camera 8/10: the still pictures r good but dey cd hv been a lot better.. the ifone and nokia N8 are better here.. n i wd hv lykd a physical camera button too...

7. Camcorder 7.5/10: wen u save HD videos in 3gp format.. smthing is bound to give away.. again i miss d cam button..

8. Contacts 10/10: special mention just cos of the wonderful integration of all social networkin sites and call, sms and mail history with each contact..
once d integration is done wenever a person calls d cel displays his netwrkin site DP as wel as a scroll bar below it which has the last status update of d person.. very minute detail.. but i lykd it...

9. Music 8.5/10: the headsets are awesome.. bt d sound quality is somewhat let down wen it comes to the loudspeaker.. it is decent wen der r a couple of ppl arnd in a quiet place.. bt in a crowded place u will hear nothin unless u place d speaker directly on ur ear...

10. Video Playback 9/10: Amazing playback with headsets on.. again let down by the loudspeaker... i actually let out a gasp wen i turned on the Dolby with headfones on while watchin a movie.. trust me guys d Dolby effect for me even beats d music king.. the ipod... yea bt the movie quality has to b good.. i was able to play most of my movies on d fone without any trouble..

11: Battery Life 7/10: the display hogs on the battery... d lyf depends on ur usage tho.. neways dey cd have given a 1500mAh battery.. it wd have been much better...

12. HTC Sense 9.5/10: works great.. i could do most of the mentioned things in a couple of tries... half a mark deducted for throwin me in2 d Arabian Sea d 1st tym arnd :p

13. Maps 9.5/10: google maps work great.. shows accurate results in a diameter area of 1km.. gives pretty decent directon as well..

14. Navigation: can't comment here.. cannot use dem in india.. will have to buy the navigation for India from HTC.. myt get it later not sure tho.. also there is an India map available for free with HTC sense.. the map is 202 MB in size.. i guess u download dis once and use it offline forever..but if u want navigations wherein a voice will guide you while drivin.. u need to buy it.. lifetym navigations for india r availble for some 1800 INR i guess wit HTC... people who buy from India will definitely get it pre installed.. i can only navigate thru Europe on my fone

15. Personalization 10/10: u can personalize watever u wish.. its fabulous..

dis i wat i feel abt d DHD.. i guess it has a solid 9/10 overall for me.. this is d best smartfone i have ever had.. ifone/blackberry/nokia "aaj meri nazaron mein aur gir gaye hain" if u undstand wat i mean ;)

hope all of u get ur DHD's soon.. Njoy!!!!!

Dear Droidites and DHDites dont take it for Granted if any local vendor or a blog says 10 more days or 15 more days, you can never be sure 95% of such info is pure rumor with unknown sources

I am trying to find a DHD and a DZ vendor in Pune and Got a lead will share if anything develops.

cheers

+1. Its highly unlikely that HTC India doesn't announces the product on their website and a local vendor has got the 'secret of HTC Desire HD launc date in India'. :p

I am afraid that HTC India will ask us to wait for more than 3 months . My guess is that after HTC Desire HD is out in the world, probably HTC would push all the rest of the 'HTC Desire' stock to India . If HTC India has to bring the 'HTC Desire HD' in a very good price range, it has to be around <= 30,000 INR which seems unlikely as 'HTC Desire' is already 28,000 INR. :(

So, probably even if 'HTC Desire HD' comes in December 2010 (which is unlikely), HTC India may price it at around ~35,000 INR to keep the 'HTC Desire' price same at ~28,000 INR. This also helps HTC to beat the 'Galaxy S' and whenever that IPhone4 comes in India (Iphone4 is defnitely be going for more than 40,000 INR).

Where I am coming to is - It's not the worth to wait for (Why to wait if you can get the 'HTC Desire HD' in 35,000 INR (as punk did) from UK).

hey punk_19 hows things going on wht ur new DHD ?

btw can u pls confirm you ordered this pack --> HTC Desire HD + Free, Cradle, Case and Charger Pack #99HLZ001-00_BUN1 - eXpansys UK or just the phone ...

any luck wht ur wifi working and anymore issues etc so far ...

HTC Desire HD (+ Free Cradle, Case & Charger pack ) is 499.99 GBP (excluding shipping cost) with expansys code - http://www.expansys.com/htc-desire-hd+free-cradle-case-and-charger-pack-204815/ 30 in stocks .. whereas HTC Desire HD alone without any free stuff is also costing 499.99 GBP (excluding shipping cost) from the same website yet having different expansys code 100 in stock ... http://www.expansys.com/htc-desire-hd-203871/

Punk paid only 425 GBP for the phone (& 22 GBP for shipping to India). This means:

1. HTC Desire HD's price has gone up since 10-15 days - I thought I will go only for phone (& not the freebies/goodies) in less than 425 GBP becasue I only want the phone & would like to pay only for the phone  But, now expansys have increased the price by ~75 GBP whether you want the goodies or not
2. Goodies are not free as they are claimed by Expansys.

Anybody agree/disagree with me ?

I have my (3-5) friends in Netherlands and UK who (1 from UK) will be returning to India in January/February :) . So, I am going to book HTC Desire HD this week either from Netherlands or UK ? Suggest me buying from which country would be better? Would be better if you could provide links of good e-retailers of Netherlands.

I am more inclined towards booking it from UK because I have bit idea of supply-demand gap.

did thought about milestone 2 too lately but its root isnt cracked yet so no custom roms=bad

If someone can't wait for HTC Desire HD, could you guys please suggest which of these 3 smartphones should I go for Desire or Galaxy S or Milestone 2? My preference: Milestone 2 (value for money) >> Desire (coz its HTC) >> Galaxy S (coz its Samsung)

Everyone knows aboutDesire. (alongwith bill and warranty as you buy it in India) ~ 28,900 INR.

Milestone 2 - 550 MHZ processor, 3.7", 480X854 capacitive touch, 256 MB RAM, 8MP camera with Xenon flash, HD recording, HDMI port, Life-time free navigation from moto-nav & free maps from mapsmyindia, 1390 mAh battery, HTML5 browser & probably support to Flash 10.1 too, alongwith bill and warranty as you buy it in India ~ 27,490 INR.

Galaxy S - 1 Ghz processor, 4", 480X800 AMOLED touch, 568 MB RAM, 5MP camera with no flash, HD recording, HDMI output (though you need to buy 50$HDMI cable through microUSB), 1500 mAh battery, alongwith bill and warranty as you buy it in India ~ 28,000 INR.

no da price is same..its 499.99 GBP with vat ..u wont hav to pay vat if u r importing it to India..as soon as u select rest of world in the "delivering to" section, da price wil be updated to 425 GBP ..

Milestone 2 has 1 Ghz processor.Just for your info....

@Btrivedi...

yea as stated above.. the DHD still costs 425gbp.. once u select the country for delivery India or any other outside Europe.. the 75gbp VAT is waived.. so no worries here...

when u buy from expansys.. trust me you want the free goodies.. they are really good.. especially the USB Cradle.. its really handy...

again milestone 2 has a 1GHz processor...

once you place your order with expansys you can cancel it anytime before they ship it to u.. once it is shipped you cannot cancel the order.. u wil get an email abt the same once the order has been shipped...

the HTC Desire with Android 2.2 installed with bill in mumbai is for 27.9K.. and tbh i wd go for the HTC.. i have seen all these 3 fones side by side.. and the build quality of HTC is out of this world.. d camera n screen myt b a tiny bit better on oder fones.. bt d desire looks lyk a 27K fone unlike d oder 2... and for me HTC is the Android king..

Samsung.. buggers give u a plastic back wit no flash for arnd 27K.. motorola.. nt really a fan of it...

i was so pissed once waitin for my DHD dat i was contemplatin gettin d Desire.. bt many ppl suggested i wait for thr DHD.. yea d processor speed is sufi as compared to the desire.. and also the 1gb internal memory is also really helpful for apps.. and d screen... jus out of dis world...

i wd still say wait for the DHD or order from the UK if Navigation is not important for u and ur willin to take a risk of no warranty...

also i agree with wat u said dat the DHD will b more dan 30K wen released in India.. cos seems HTC does nt care abt d prices.. samsung galaxy S prices hv gone down.. while the Desire is still more expensive.. and y shd it bother.. HTC delivers better quality.. if it is for arnd 30K it wil b gr8 for all d guys waitin for it to b released in India..

but if u really cannot wait.. i'd say jus go n hv a look at al 3 handsets in some big outlet like Chroma or something.. u will b able to decide urself.. me personally wd have gone for the desire..

@Rad304 - Good. :) Doesn't this means other websites might be offering just 'HTC Desire HD' a lot less than 425 GBP. And then, we can easily buy other accessories like Cradle, screen protector, cover ..

NOPE!!!.. go and check other websites... not all websites waive the VAT...
it all depends on the geographical location of business of the company.. if the company is fully based in the UK u will have to pay VAT wherever u get it delivered... i guess expansys is based outside UK bt has a branch or smthng der...

d deals change from website to website.. u will have to scout the internet for better deals if u feel dis is nt d best one for u...

go and check out deals of other websites like clove.co.uk, handtec.co.uk etc... handtec i guess will give u cheaper by arnd 10-15 gbp.. bt if u get al des accessories for dat money wat else do u want.. and no1 is sure dat handtec is gettin stock..

whereas expansys has been gettin it regularly.. i hv got myn and anoder user from dis forum is abt to get his soon..

totally agree wit punk_19 on dis..expansys is da best option..handtec is 10 GBP's cheaper but dey still hav stock issues..

guys..

jus got an email from expansys sayin that the fone has been shipped...
it shd b here soon i hope...
cnt w8 to get my hands on it...
Njoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@punk_19 - Just saw that you ordered your Desire HD around 17th Nov and you got the mail on 24th Nov that your order has been shipped & on 26th you got the phone in your hands. All like dream come true. Does this means that expansys has cleared their orders till 17th Nov ? Raises my hope that I may also get it delivered quickly ?

Even HTC India would be slamming their head in wall & including HTC India, I am very jealous of you. :p

PS - @punk_19 and others: please keep replying, thanks a lot from bottom of my heart.

jus got d fone... whoaaa.. its awesome!!!!!!!!

dunno abt d grey mkt...

i got it in 35K inclusive of everything...

33K d bank charged me for the entire money xfer... n 2200 ws d duty..
dunno it mayb a couple of grands expensive.. but seems worth it...

so many features.. m a 1st tym android user n m feelin a bit dumb tbh.. loads to learn..

Cheers!!!!!

@punk_19: But someone (probably golu14) said if we are using the product for non-commercial usage, it shouldn't attract duty. But I myself have spoken to custom officers (made few trips to broad) and general rule is anything brought from abroad above 25,000 INR attracts import/customs duty.

How much % you paid the custom duty ? And did that %age applied on 425GBP - 25,000 INR ? :o

Thanks in advance. :)

All right with 'waiving of VAT' :), 'Milestone2 has 1 Ghz' :) and 'Cradle is definitely nice :)'. But, if phone has been ordered but not shipped yet, what is the cancellation fees/policy? (should have searched on expansys myself but you are an expert here :o)

Yeah HTC is the leader at the moment. However, Motorola has price Milestone2 aggressively (as other features are almost same when compared to Desire and Galaxy S but Milestone2 gives u a camera with Xenon flash , with all India maps free with lifetime free navigation with HDMI port, 16GB of phone memory ). Galaxy S has issues like Mic, default compass app doesn't works at best, GPS bit flakey, not-a-real HDMI port, no LED flash, buggy KIES. :( So, at the moment, I have changed my preference to -

Desire HD >> Desire = Milestone2 >> Galaxy S.

PS - My current phone is Sony K750i which costed me Rs.10,000 in 2006 and in 2008 it was costing around 6,000 Rs. :D

no order cancellation fee as they dont charge ur card they just block that money but once they dispatch ur order then they debit

yea.. even i was surprised at d speed at which i got the fone... guess it was jus sheer dumb luck :D

i really dnt knw wat is d status of expansys back orders.. but from 23rd up until now.. dey have been getting stock every week.. tho dat is only 2 orders in India bein fulfilled which i know of in these 2 weeks... but hey.. hw many orders in India are der... so atleast expansys currently is good in dat regards...

customs in india are nt that transparent... dey wnt show u the xact %age or nethn.. u cannot even be sure if d duty applied wd b same for al people who import the same thing..
i jus assumed arnd 7-8%age of the total amount i gave expansys... i.e. 448.57gbp @ approx 72.5INR per pound....

about cancellation policy.. generally hw it wrks is dat dey dnt charge anything to your account until and unless the item is shipped... d money is deducted once shipping is complete.. so you will not lose any money to expansys.. but den wen u transfer from a bank to UK and convert INR to GBP dey take some charge from u.. which varies from bank to bank... i guess u will lose dat fee.. also i feel expansys wd be of greater help to you to give you a clear picture... I interacted with dem quite often in dat week.. n i found dem really helpful... I usually spoke to only 2 people Matthew and Kerry.. dey both atleast were really good...

the milestone 2 can b a good fone.. i have seen only the original milestone and d 3.7" screeen seemed small to me.. so i never contemplated or researched the milestone2... m sorry but you will have to research dat on ur own.. mayb searchin thru the milestone 2 threads in dis forum wil give u a better picture..
and where did u get milestone 2 specs from??
gsmarena says milestone 2 has 5MP cam wit dual LED same as DHD.. also.. do u really need a physical keypad?
and wen DHD is launched in India.. whichever century it is :p.. it is bound to have Indian navigations too... n y do u need navigations wen u hv maps is wat i feel... u can even dwnload a map of india from HTC for free to b used offline.. i have to download it yet.. cos its quite huge.. arnd 200MB..

its ur choice after all... i have never used a motorola... sm1 with dat experience der myt b able to aid u better...
i am usin the DHD tho and i can safely say dat it is KICKASS :D

as far as my experience goes...motorola sucks with their quality, so as samsung,, well samsung sucks both software and build quality...I have SGS ... only the screen is gr8 rest all horrible

HTC is our best bet for now, even the original desire has all the stuffs just it had the horrible internal memory just 140 MB thats crap

I am gonna wait for DHD :)

anyone here apart from "punk_19" got their DHD from UK to india ?

I am very much tempted specially with the free accesories....but its a big sum of money so has to rely on warranty...although I have good exp wht htc phones that they dont break easily at least for 1st year...but still ................

hey punk_19 hows ur wifi thing working ? did u do a factory reset once ? and yeah check all ur acessories specially the handset I got a faulty one with original Desire

wifi wrks now.. jus played arnd wit al d settings and smhw got it wrkin :p
no oder issues wit anythin else... may God let it remain dat ways.. ;)

ya dont worry, HTC quality is gr8 :)

u can download the offline maps through wifi, it should be fast...and which city r u in ? I guess the maps will be good for metro cities.,,not sure if pune is covered properly, but delhi and mumbai will be...

how do u find gps ? does it locks fast enough ?

download some 3d games...like angry birds, raging thunder 2, some gr8 google apps like google sky maps, layar...u r new to android so thought of recomending these, well these are what android for .. gr8 apps :)

been der done dat...

downloaded everythin u jus told.... learnt hw dey wrk too :D

reli luvd d angry birds and d piggy's dey try to hit... LOL...
even d multipicture thngy.. currently have characters of the Justice League as my wallpapers for each screen..
android is nt as tuff as ppl say.. its jus a lot more advanced.. u jus need to knw hw thngs wrk and hw u want to use dem 4 their benefit..
d gps gives me my current location pretty fast.. bt as i told accurate to an area of 1km.. nt d xact pin point location... will download the India map soon..

Njoy!!!
