Help Will the unlocked HTC Desire HD work in India?

hmmm..

1. usually nothin happens during shippin as DHL is a reputed company dey take good care of that.. if ur unlucky enuf to get a broken 1.. you have to intimate expansys asap... even den d cost of shipping will hv to b borne by you.. i had confirmed wit dem...

2. i dnt knw abt d UK warranty.. though expansys said dey wd provide d warranty... bt den i feel HTC gives a good quality of phones.. if ur device goes all crazy on u pretty soon it wd just b ur bad lluck.. afetr 6 8 months i wd say rather dan shippin to UK for any repairs it wd b better gettin it fixed in India only.. i hope by den d DHD will surely b launched here :D

3. yes u can cancel ur order without a single pence.. but dat depends on d mode of payment.. if its a credit/debit card den no amount.. but if its bank xfer d bank wil charge u fees for currency conversion.. i dnt think dey wil refund u dat fees..

4. i use wifi for arnd an hr or so in d entire day... play angry birds for half an hr.. some music for half n hr 45 mins... n of course d demos of d phone video clarity n all to friends i meet... cals for abt 1 hr.. not many messages hardly 5-6 in a day.. my battery lasts me arnd 20 hrs easily.. my usage is not that extensive.. but i'm happy with it..

5. speakerphone volume.. yes it is low.. i'm not very happy wit dat part...

6. earphones are pretty good.. and when u switch on d Dolby while watchin a video.. u jus escape to anoder world.. i personally found it awesome...

7. photo shoot.. yes it smtyms gets shaky.. bt u hv to get used to it..

8. sms delete for me never took dat much time.. 2 mayb 3 seconds max

9. power and volume button.. again u have to get used to d size and d placements of the buttons of the fone...

PS: d oder acquaintance of mine got d fone today.. he was levied a duty of 2500INR..

yea.. even i was surprised at d speed at which i got the fone... guess it was jus sheer dumb luck :D

i really dnt knw wat is d status of expansys back orders.. but from 23rd up until now.. dey have been getting stock every week.. tho dat is only 2 orders in India bein fulfilled which i know of in these 2 weeks... but hey.. hw many orders in India are der... so atleast expansys currently is good in dat regards...

customs in india are nt that transparent... dey wnt show u the xact %age or nethn.. u cannot even be sure if d duty applied wd b same for al people who import the same thing..
i jus assumed arnd 7-8%age of the total amount i gave expansys... i.e. 448.57gbp @ approx 72.5INR per pound....

about cancellation policy.. generally hw it wrks is dat dey dnt charge anything to your account until and unless the item is shipped... d money is deducted once shipping is complete.. so you will not lose any money to expansys.. but den wen u transfer from a bank to UK and convert INR to GBP dey take some charge from u.. which varies from bank to bank... i guess u will lose dat fee.. also i feel expansys wd be of greater help to you to give you a clear picture... I interacted with dem quite often in dat week.. n i found dem really helpful... I usually spoke to only 2 people Matthew and Kerry.. dey both atleast were really good...

the milestone 2 can b a good fone.. i have seen only the original milestone and d 3.7" screeen seemed small to me.. so i never contemplated or researched the milestone2... m sorry but you will have to research dat on ur own.. mayb searchin thru the milestone 2 threads in dis forum wil give u a better picture..
and where did u get milestone 2 specs from??
gsmarena says milestone 2 has 5MP cam wit dual LED same as DHD.. also.. do u really need a physical keypad?
and wen DHD is launched in India.. whichever century it is :p.. it is bound to have Indian navigations too... n y do u need navigations wen u hv maps is wat i feel... u can even dwnload a map of india from HTC for free to b used offline.. i have to download it yet.. cos its quite huge.. arnd 200MB..

its ur choice after all... i have never used a motorola... sm1 with dat experience der myt b able to aid u better...
i am usin the DHD tho and i can safely say dat it is KICKASS :D

Hmmm...regarding maps & navigation...
Dude, one of my friend has a HTC wildfire and he was asking me free offline maps for navigation. Is it available for download on HTC website??Any suggestions??

thats good news and seems most of the dealers are saying these phones should launch in india in comming few weeks...

I guess its grey market desire z so wont be under proper warranty yet

and I would really like to know if its HINGE is good ? I read a lot about its hinge problem, how do u find it ?

can u give me this guys number and shop address in pune ?
At present the warranty is such that there will be limited assistance in India as the product has not launched officially but will be like any other warranty when it does get launched. As stated on the official warranty card "The Warranty is valid on all the countries where the product is sold" . So keeping my fingers Crossed.

The guys name is Rahul B and his number is 9960497500 . His address is 401, 4th floor, hakimi apartments, near Alankar Medical Store / Vishranthi Hospital, Bhawani Peth, Pune -411042

Regarding the Hinge , Even I did a lot of research on that and it does snap down but only if you hold it in weird angles and positions which in normal usage you never do.

I used it while lying on the bed , no issues at all.

The other issues is that will it stand the test of time , well i cant say anything on that as far as i see in the hinge mechanism there are no springs or any elastic substance to push and pop which wear and tear away with time, it is purely mechanical and moves the screen because of gravity (and hence it snapping down erratically as many videos show) or because of the push u provide with your fingers where it goes up and stay down because of its weight.

So lets see.

der is a map of India available for free download.. its abt 202MB...
if he has a working navigation app.. i don't see any reason y d map should not work wit it.. :)

Hello Punk,

Thanks for the reply. But i could not find the download link/website.Could you tell me where to look out for that 202 MB sized maps.
Since i haven't tried out navigation apps, you can also suggest a good navigation app from the android market..
Thanks once again.

Regards,
Kumar.

i kinda agree with the above statement...
if u still wanna chekck. jus see if you have the locations app in ur fone.. start dat.. goto menu-->upgrade
and den select the maps tab... u will get many maps to chose from...
n i'm sry i dnt have much idea abt navigations app.. i hv heard of Navigon and co-pilot.. bt i neither do i knw how dey wrk nor do i knw if dey have indian maps...

i jus downloaded the offline maps.. even after goin online dey cd not detect my current location correctly.. however, the app gives good decent enough directions between two places and you can even use d compass feature on the maps...dat i wd say is good enough for me.. cos tbh i'm nt d kind who goes searchin for a map while drivin.. i jus go thru it once before leavin for somewhere new..

now dis is some good news...
guess 10th December is d magical date for all ;)
hopin every1 gets d handsets soon..
Njoy!!!!!!

ha ha ha ha ha ha

Dude just wait for some more time.

I bet the waiting is going to pay back.

Cheers.

Hopefully !! What I would hate to see is, HTC India says 'People of India, we have brought Desire Z, HD2 and HD7 for you'

I was about to order DHD today from UK but now with 2-3 Igyann posts, and 1 fonearena announcement & both of them pointing towards 10th Dec, I would like to wait. But, IGyaan posted that launching price of DHD will be ~34,000 INR and within 10 days they will start selling it in ~30,000 INR.

Now, we will hae to wait when the prices fall down !! Wait, wait, wait (Judge sahab .. yahan milti hai to sirf .. Tareekh .. Tareekh pe Tarreekh ..Tareekh pe Tarreekh .. nahin milta hai to HTC Desire HD phone :()

PS - In a mall, played with Nokia N8 (was priced 23,400 INR) for about half an hour. It's a good phone, only Symbian3 kills it.

well not sure abt HD7 coming to india so soon..but DHD will be launched next week.

Hope so. I like your optimism and confidence (I just want to listen to its speaker once).

PS - btw, probably HD7 has 'camera' button, wonder why HTC didn't put it in DHD.

i wd say u shd wait.. jo bhi tareekh ho :)
if it is launched with vodafone there is a possibility you get a data plan with some free internet usage for the first 5-6 months.. and then dnt forget the warranty too... jus wait a week.. dat wd b better i'd say :)

well i kinda waited so long so waiting a bit longer for the price drop wont matter. can buy extra goodies if i save some.
