Windows 10, Yay or Nay?

Oh, that "somebody". :(

Ummm, no,

still on the Best there is here:

I still have both systems on separate partitions, 10 installed as an upgrade to7 so the setups are identical. Compared to 7, 10 has some foibles, as I see it...

Looks relatively childish
Uses more memory
Was looking forward to getting a new PC, but now...
If the new Settings is so wonderful, why do I still need to use Control Panel and why is it still so easily accessible (right click start icon)?

Well all my computers are still on Windows 10 and just like Windows 7,I tweak it for my use and speed.
There is nothing wrong with Windows 10.
If you tweak Windows 10 like I do,You will be just as happy with Windows 10 as I was with Windows 7.

Agreed with AMOCO more or less. Windows 10 is bad, it's friggin' Windows. But no worse than Windows 7. Maybe even a bit better. Like any version of Windows, ya gotta do some tweaking. Well, a lotta tweaking.

...or go to another OS... I liked tweaking 95. XP wasn't so bad, either, but after that... Too much work for little reward.

I can tweak the hell out of Gnome or KDE.

If you have to tweak the hell out of Gnome or KDE that's a hint maybe you should use something else. But that's just me and why I don't use either.

Get this...I last summer a built a new MiniPC workststion and loaded Fedora 22 on it, later upgraded to Fedora 23. Here's the story on it:
http://androidforums.com/threads/built-new-minipc-load-centos-7-1-or-fedora-22.922834/#post-7011039

As things have changed since then, I'm building another, very similar MiniPC for myself and the one I'm using now is going to my wife. She must have Windows for work to run certain software. I thought about leaving Fedora 23 on it and loading Win 10 in a VM but decided to simplify and just load a fresh Windows 10 Pro 64bit install, a full retail version from a USB stick. BTW, MS uses the cheapest looking USB stick I've ever seen. I'm still using the MiniPC for a bit, tweaking and testing so when she gets it it's as good as it can be.

Anyway, the point is now I've had the chance to compare Fedora 22-23 with Windows 10 Pro on the same very capable hardware. How is Fedora better? Ah, let us count the ways:

1. Fedora booted in about 5-6 seconds.
Win 10 takes 8-9 seconds.
Winner: Fedora.
2. Fedora occupied about 30% less RAM than Win 10 after a reboot.
Winner: Fedora.
3. Fedora used a bit less CPU than Windows 10 at idle.
Winner: Fedora.
4. Fedora CPU temperatures ran about 38-43C at idle.
Win 10 about 45-50C.
Winner: Fedora.
5. Fedora CPU temperatures under normal use ran about 45-50C.
Win 10 about 48-55C.
Winner: Fedora.
6. Fedora rarely moved the CPU fans to speed up more than 200 rpm, unnoticeable. At idle 1575-1650 rpm. Under normal use 1700-1800rpm.
Win 10 kicks them into audible speeds, which about 1900 rpm, occasionally but not regularly. At idle 1700-1750 rpm. Under normal use 1750-2100 rpm.
Winner: Fedora.
7. Fedora loaded all hardware, including my antique Epson scanner, without a hiccup. Read my Nexus devices via USB and MTP no problem.
Win 10 is still trying to figure out the antique scanner. MTP is working, but required findings and installing drivers.
Winner: Fedora.
8. And of course, cost. Fedora $0.
Win 10 $200.
Winner: Fedora.
9. Both are fast, smooth and stable. Google Fiber speedtests are a dead heat. But Fedora is a bit better on SSD performance (better file system) and by seat of the pants feels a tad snappier.
Winner: Fedora.
10. Don't even get me started on software, privacy problems, ease of use etc etc...
Winner: Fedora.

Win 10 just can't win.

Well, I tweak the hell out of my OS because I like to do work in specific ways and have non-standard preferences (for example, I hate white backgrounds).

KDE happens to the most flexible for me, though it's a damn heavy DE

I went into a local electrical shop over Christmas, and the sales assistant gave me a Win 10 demo, and quite honestly it looked very good, seemed like a slick UI. Although this was a sales pitch, so they wouldn't really highlight any niggles with it. Must say I have not used Win 10 myself in anger, so I don't know how intensive it is on system resources.
My Daughter loves Cortana, so she's sold on it.

As a glowing endorsement for Windows 10 ... it doesn't suck (any more than previous versions of Windows.)
Uh.. Hmm. I disagree, bro. Win10 is bogus crapware. I'm not on an existing WiFi so and almost any/all internet connection comes from my personal device and I'm NOT about to sit "dead in the water" for hours+ at a time burning thru my data while the PC forces auto updates. "F" the dumb $h!t! Really. I have more important things to do with my PC and data allotment.
WINDOWS 10? NAY!

OK, it's Windows, it's crap. I can kinda go along with that. But your reason is bogus. Nothing is keeping you from turning off auto-updates to save data.

Windows 10 isn't free, even though there is no initial charge. They've just come up with another way for you to pay.
I had to pay the same way as always. In full. $200 certainly is NOT free!

Gotcha and Ty- for the info. I only use Windows on occasions these days cuz some ppl wrote programs that don't have Linux equivalents.. But only when I MUST.

Ditto. These days, Win hardly ever gets booted on my laptop, only for those apps that don't have Linux versions, and can't run under Wine.
When Win does boot it takes what feels like an hour of installing updates and rebooting several times before I can actually use the machine.

Well that chart is not surprising, bearing in mind the massive swathe of corporate environments which are chained to Windows deployments, and support, with all associated applications, plus maintenance of these systems. They are virtually slaves of Microsoft. A shift to anything else would be inconceivable to the management.
However that still doesn't make it a better O/S than Linux.

I don't particularly disagree and I still have Mint available as a flash boot, but I could never feel comfortable with the way Linux arranges things. I was Windowized a long time ago...

Not to mention governments...
