windows 8

It's true.. I didn't read this whole thread but...I assume you are talking about the price increase! because I was a beta tester for win 8 I got a notice the other day that the price is going to skyrocket! (and I got it free:) Plus outlook too..cuz they are afraid of me..
but anywho..buy it now...!!

After about a week of playing with the full windows 8 and not the beta...I have to say. It's really not bad...I've used worse. I'm looking at you Vista.

If the price does increase, good thing I got my new laptop before it does happen.

So... Buy now? Or wait till it comes down?

I wasn't really looking to get it, but i definitely won't get it for £100...

well i do not see the price going and further down then it is already. it is supposed to be going up very soon though.......so that will be up to you.

All those 4/500% hike headlines seem a bit sensationalist to me. They did say at launch that the £25 price was only going to be available to early adopters, and the new price is fairly comparable to Windows 7's launch prices, as far as I'm aware.

I certainly think it's a bad idea, given the fact windows 8 isn't exactly setting the world on fire at the lower price, but I don't think it's unexpected by any means.

Yeah. I see what you mean.

I have no real problems with Windows 8, i do have a little bit of knowledge about computers, I like windows 8, faster, so far reliable.

welcome to the forums!!!!!

i like windows 8, but for me it seems that pc built with windows 8 built in seems to work better. i have a pc that i upgraded from windows 7 to 8 and now small thing do not always work right. sometime the vol keys on the keyboard don't work. or the trackpad is a little wonky. the cursor will jump around all over the place when moving it.

however, the pc i bought with windows 8 already works flawlessly.

overall though i like windows 8.

I agree it is definitely a learning curve to install on older computers, I tried different software, drivers etc. Thanks for the Welcome.

3 days left. Still not sure if I should get it :P Although most of the posts in this thread say that it's a good upgrade and isnt as bad as other are making out.

If I am coming from Windows 7 64-bit ultimate, which is the best version for me to go for?

to be honest i never use the tiles that comes with windows 8. i only use the desktop and that is it. windows 7 is a great os.........so it is up to you to make that decision.

but i will say this. if you are upgrading........then i would wait. get a pc that has it built in. my pc after upgrading has some small issues. it seems that not all the drivers work well. like i said a few posts ago, my keyboard acts funky sometimes and the track pad on my laptop is also acts weird as well. i bought a pc that came with 8 and it works flawlessly.

I removed windows and havent been happier. Currently running PC-BSD and loving it. I still have a lot to learn but I'm ready for it. The two weeks I ran windows 8 were almost as bad as the two weeks I ran vista.

Windows 8 pro version

For the last two weeks Windows 8 "Action Center" has been nagging about an update for Windows, probably the "Second Tuesday" thing. But when try and do the update, it says the update is not available in your region, or it that can't be found. Anyone else seen this?

I've hardly used Windows lately, been Linux most of the time. I'm actually tempted just to nuke Windows completely if this continues.

Foolishly I did the update, one system is running smooth as glass the other just got corrupted and crashed. I have to give MS props, the Refresh feature worked exactly as advertised. It does however remove all programs so I am going to go ahead and wipe and fresh install.

Now I have to spend an hour on the phone with Adobe and convince them to reauthorize my master collection, they tend to think you are cheating the max number of systems.

I'm running Win8 on 'Frankenstein' (socket 775/ Celeron E3300/4Gb DDR2-800, old ATI 256Mb PCI-E graphics card) This box has had Vista and 7 on it before , always dual booting with Linux. Win 8 is much quicker to boot & shut down, and feels more responsive, I'm getting to like it quite a lot, more so since I used Classic Shell to re-instate a nice start button. I use the desktop for Libre Office, Chrome and media stuff (VLC and Winamp) and the 'modern' UI for other stuff. With a start button it's a nice separation of serious and not-so serious stuff.

I got a question for you, if you purchase the upgrade (from 7 to 8) for the discounted price, can you install it on a blank hard drive? My girlfriend wants windows 8, but I want her to let me upgrade her hard drive to a ssd.

So would there be problems with that?

Not really sure, maybe you could try migrating 7 to the ssd then upgrade

Yes, the upgrade disc allows for a fresh install. The discount pricing ended in January however, I believe it is over $100 now.

Really? I would have thought that defeated the purpose, unless what you mean is that it is the same price as the regular was...
