Root Windows mobile on my evo

Is there a way to install windows mobile on my evo? I saw on google stuff about dual boot. But that was a generalized site for Android devices so I'm not sure about compatability. That and I'm not sure I want to trust the life of my previous evo to a google search. I'd rather get advice from the experts here.

If this isn't possible ( and even if it is) are there any windows mobile ROMs for the evo?

I've tried launcher 7, but that only changes what my home screen looks like and I'm looking for the whole experience.

i have not seen any windows roms running on android. i guess it will be the same reason why you do not see IOS running on android as well. if you want to the whole experince then maybe you should get a windows phone:p:D

i tried a windows phone. not my cup of tea i guess.

I've never even used a windows phone or an ios phone. From what I understand you can put Android on a windows phone or iPhone if you want to put in a bunch of work. But I don't want to sink money into a phone I might not like. That and I love my evo so darn much.

I'm curious what its like to use a windows phone. Launcher 7 is pretty nifty so I wanna see what the whole windows phone OS is like. And I want something radically different from the ROMs I've tried. I certainly can't bring myself to even attempt to install ios. I wouldn't want to taint my EVO with anything made by Apple.

I think if you look in the market there is a windows 7 launcher program out there also using desktop visualizer you could create the look yourself. I however am not a winblows fan. I'm just a Linux Heart

Yeah the launcher you're thinking of is launcher 7. That's what inspired me to attempt this.

Ive never used Linux but I've heard very good things. I should probably learn Linux.

You know what's funny? I wasn't initally going to get an Android. I got the EVO as a test drive for my wife (to make sure it would suit her needs and not be too complicated), and I got the HTC Arrive for myself the day it came out. After using that phone for 3 days, and feeling completely crippled by it, I returned it and got an EVO for myself. Trust me, Android is just better. That Metro launcher isn't all it's cracked up to be, and the complete lack of multitasking ability left much to be desired. Android is a relatively simple and straightforward platform, but for an advanced user, it can be quite a powerhouse. Windows phone 7 was WAY too "dumbed down" for me, as if Microsoft was trying to cater to the iPhone crowd that don't want to have to think to use their device.

Capt that's the way Apple and Microsoft are. They want none thinking people to drone their crap. Linux is for those who will not conform

I've notice all Apple products I've used are made to be very simple, so people don't have to use that lump between their ears. I can't speak for Windows phones though.

I believe there aren't even any WP7 phones on CDMA right now so even getting a GSM phone ROM ported to the EVO would be a feat all its own.

I have been looking for one myself. Done the Googling, etc...nothing.

Most people say that the reason for Android phones not being able to run iOS and Windows Mobile whereas Windows Mobile and iPhones running Android is that Android is open source and the other two are not. What this means is that:
1. It is technically illegal to port over iOS/WM to a non-iOS/WM device
2. The code has not been released for either software

...on the other hand...

Android is open source so it is:
1. Legal to install on practically any device
2. The code is released to the public which has allowed devs for each community to port over Android to their devices.

I have heard that most devs do not want to put in the time nor risk being sued for such a project. Plus many who use Android are satisfied enough with Android that they don't want the competitors. I wish we could but I highly doubt we will ever get either running on our Android based devices in the upcoming years.

It's best to just get an iPhone/Windows Mobile phone and install Android on it and use its original software if you'd like the change. I know that sucks but that's about your best bet unless you'd like to put in the time and effort into doing it yourself lol in that case, I would pay someone to do it for me just so I can have more to flash to my friends :p

This is what I think about every time I think about getting an iPhone/Windows Mobile phone. :p

From my experience of both the phones and users in comparison to Android phones is that Android people know how to do more things whereas iPhone users and phones are super watered down and protected by Apple from things that could possibly destroy their phone or allow them to use it to its full potential. And seeing the full potential of Android devices...wow...these things can do things unimaginable and the community and Google work seamlessly with great innovations. One physical button versus 4+ is a huge difference and allows user to control it more so than the device and allow more uses. I just wish that companies and people put down iPhone and WM phones so Android could get bigger and its competitors would learn but most people are satisfied with second best and gimmicks... iPhones are so fragile but I have yet to see a completely destroyed (software) Android phone because even if its supposedly "bricked", there are ways around it and ways of fixing it.

The big issue with those phones iPhone and Windows Phone is that they assume everyone is the same. They want conformist. People who want flashy and pretty but not seriously functional. They captivate the world with glitter. They don't feel that people need to see "Under the Hood" just get in and drive. Unfortunately for Android / Linux systems are that most people are either a)Scared of whats under the hood or b) doesn't care as long as it makes them look good and is somewhat functional. Most people are happy with a system that gives them the basics of what they want. Text, Emails, Chat, Internet, Games, and maybe a bit of productive apps. Thats all most want or need.

Android / Linux users are a different breed of people. We want to play "Under the Hood" we want to tweak it make it more powerful. We want to fully customize it and really have it our way yes we want the basics but we want more than just the basics. We want serious power. We bought something with 600 horses in it and by God, we plan on using every one of them :D

Then again... why would you want a bunch of colored tiles running your social life in the first place? Not me, I prefer widgets ;)

I just want something different for a while. All ROMs are a little different, but I want something WAAAAY different. Android is the only thing I've used.
