Root [WIP][DEV] Custom Recovery/Bootloader unlocking Work In Progress Thread

@cretinoid: the semiboot/halfboot seemingly works by disabling a couple of the key software locks for developer use, but a large majority of these functions are usually locked with a signed key. Don't take that to seriously though, I'm going on by what I've gleaned by really messing with my phone. I'm down to my last backup at this point.

I can't do a tutorial, it would be completely hearsay until I get a 2nd opinion. I do know for a fact that I was able to install apks that would normally lock up in a parsing error due to being unsigned.
 
side-track question...

is there a possibility of us being able to de-odex our current ROM?.....I was wondering...because then we could theme it a lot easier and that would make some people very happy...

I believe PG stated somewhere on here that its possible and the files can be pushed to the device but that method just wasn't preferred

What's the point of android os being a open source if we cannot do anything with it

I just wanted a nice looking vanilla rom lg really messed up here with the locked bootloader

I think Google should step in and tell everyone that all bootloaders need to be unlocked or stop producing Android phones :p

there is no way to hack the key, by the time you did manage to forge it this phone would be 7+ years old.

locking the bootloader prevents custom software from running on it. if they dont unlock then you cant mess your phone up and claim it was LG's fault. the amount of repairs and warranty service is obviously high enough that OEMS are taking notice, and even more than that willing to pay someone to write out this protection.

the issue is far too many people have cried wolf and blew it for everyone else, now even samsung releases a locked bootloader device....

Thats socks customization that was the best thing android had i guess buying an android or apple phone would be the same now

no. you can still go download a new launcher. or use different apps. or even apply themes, thats what customization is.

Yea i know but the thing is that i can get a stock ics launcher but when you open a system app you always gonna have lg theme you know what i mean right

use a launcher that offers hiding apps from the app drawer. there are many app replacements like ics/jb keyboards. there are many sms/mms apps as well as dialers. so long as you set them to be the defaults when stuff happens you can forget ever having the lg ui. you can even change the status bar

List of apps to customize what
Status bar: Super Status Bar
Dialer: exDialer with this theme
Messaging: Go SMS Pro is a great product, as is Handcent

there are plenty of options i just wanted to merely list a few to show you you dont have to have a stock look, even without root

super status bar is trash. try jelly bean status bar 4.1 and holo locker jb. your phone will look just like its got jb.
