Wireless charging?

Using the ringke slim case. Thin like the spigen. I also have never had issues with cords or ports but would like the convenience of just dropping the phone on a charging pad.

I am not sure whether to post this as a separate thread but I have a problem with QI charging on my S5.

I am using the genuine Samsung S Charger pad with Samsung 2amp power supply. Also genuine Samsung charging back.

When I place the phone on the charging plate all seems well and it starts charging but before it reaches 100% the indicator light starts flashing orange. According to the manual this indicates "not charging properly"

If I take it off and replace it the charging restarts but if I leave it it doesn't and the phone starts discharging.

Last night I left it on the pad when I went to bed and it was showing about 80%. This morning I found it was flashing and the charge was 50%.

This doesn't seem right. Has anyone else experienced this?

I am placing the phone centrally on the pad with no cover and it bleeps to tell me it is charging.

I don't have either of those items, but that does not sound right to me.

I do have an el cheapo fleabay Qi charger installed inside the OEM case and so far, with only 4 recharges with it, it has gone to 100% and held the phone at that level until I remove the phone off the pad.

I will have to order the $19 one then, with the Nokia DT900, and now using a different bumper case I have, that has no back to it, just rubberized edges, it does the same thing, I put it on, thought it was charging and then checked later and it was down to 91%... ugh, I even tried setting a lightflow LED indicator that should glow when charging but it's not, wondering if that only works with USB charging.

Okay, ordered the Ebay one... hopefully my results are as good as others here. Will sell this Nokia locally, if it works okay!

Report back please with your results.
That is how these forums provide others with good info. Seeing how things help others.

So I just tried my existing setup again and when I place the phone on the charger, no case, it starts charging wirelessly. As soon as the screen goes to sleep the charger light starts flashing and when I wake the phone it isn't charging anymore. I set an led indicator with light flow and it starts glowing red til when the screen goes to sleep for a split second then shuts off. Do I have to set something to allow it to wirelessly charge when asleep?

I got the samsung charging base and the cover - the problem is the thickness of the back cover makes the case fall off - It is just thick enough to need to find a different case.

Any suggestions??

In Developer options, which I have turned ON, I have a check mark for "Stay awake" while charging.

That to me means the Lockscreen will stay lit up, but on my VZW S5 the lockscreen goes to sleep just like always and it continues to keep charging until it reaches 100%.

I am "assuming" that the S5's internal charge regulator will cut back the charging rate, or in the case of "my setup" using Battery Doctor, BD controls the reduction in charging current.

I can only say that the el cheapo wireless charger has always worked for me "so far". I have had it installed about 2 weeks and only used it 4-5 times as I get 3 to 5 days use between charges depending on how much of the "outside world, ie DATA, WIFI" I need to use.

I make my normal telephone calls needed for job, family and friends plus sending text messages. neither of those features require a DATA connection.

I never turn Sync ON unless I want to update email... but that I don't mess with unless I am on the desktop PC at home.

For those who want the official wireless charging kit..HERE IT IS..I received mine 5 days ago. I ordered the black cover and I use the Samsung wireless charging pad from amazon, the one for the S4, it works excellent with the S5.
I ordered mine from ebay, as well it is an authorized Samsung seller, this is the genuine wireless cover for the S5.

I have had no problems with this charger and cover, I just put it on the pad and it says "your device is now charging wirelessly" when it is fully charged it jusr quits charging even if I leave it on the pad. I would recommend this for anyone who wants the wireless charger..this is the link for the charging pad

I wanted to go that way, but my SS check won't stretch that far.

Have you tried it with a case on the phone?

If not, would you mind laying a thin magazine ( 3 mm to 3.5 mm thick) over the pad and see if it will still charge the phone?

My el cheapo charger will "sometimes", not always. It just does not have a strong enough magnetic field to reach out that far.

I remove the case and it works fine every time.

Is there more than one official kit? The one just above this post uses a 1 amp charger and the small pad. The larger pad that Samsung offers is a 2 amp charger and it seems silly to charge at a slower rate than the Samsung S5 USB charger which is also 2 amp and comes with the phone.

The Generic Wireless Charging Receiver Pads that I have seen all seem to have an output of 1 amp or less. Has anyone seen one that is capable of 2 amp charging?

I'd like to avoid the official Samsung wireless back cover as I have a couple S5 cases that, apparently, won't fit the new back.

Weird, but that worked. The screen still turns off after a minute but it charges to full now. Genius. Well I'll have a base in the kitchen and in the bedroom too.

I use the larger charger from amazon..not the small one with the kit. I just ordered that one because I wanted the Samsung wireless back my spigen case fits fine over the wireless back. and yes it charges with a case cover on the phone..

I have a Ringke SLIM which I like a lot and an Incipio Feather which I'm not so thrilled with because the power switch seems to love to turn the phone on and off in my pocket at random. I hope the factory back will fit in either of them.

Well, back to report that it's hit and miss... last night when I went to bed, put it on the regular charger, I needed to ensure I had a full battery leaving this morning, it charged to 100%, and I took it off the charger, let it drop a few percent, then put it on the wireless charger while I showered, started charging, when I came out it was down a few more percent and had stopped charging... hmmm...

Just throwing in my opinion.

My wife's SGS5 charging port door is a bear to close properly, and often times I'd see her phone on the table with the door open, though she swears she closed it when she took the charger cable out.

So I purchased one of the 18 dollar wireless ones from ebay, and set it up yesterday. Initially, it would not charge when I put it on the charger. I reset the receiver several times, thinking I had the contacts aligned improperly. After reading all the posts, I cut a strip of tablet paper, folded it into a small square, and placed it over the contact portion of the receiver. After putting the cover back on, I placed it on the charger, and got the indicator that the battery was charging. I checked battery doctor, and yes, it was indicating charge.

I then put the phone back into the wallet type case she had, and it again indicated charge. So last night, she put it on the charger, case and all, and we went to bed. This morning, it was 100 percent charged. So far so good, and the charging door wasn't fiddled with, and was still tightly closed.

My only observation is that the contacts on the receiver need help staying where they need to be, at least on this particular model of charger. I would recommend this type of charger, especially if you are concerned about the charger port door.

I will have to try this charging plate that I got, the tabs seem lengthy enough, but will try a small wedge of some sort against it.

yeah, it isn't the length of the contact tab, but the pressure the tab exerts when the cover is snapped down. Just needs a little downward pressure to make full contact. Doesn't take much.

Try it and see

These wireless charging threads in two different S5 forums have been ever so confusing! but this sounds like the combination I'm looking for IF my Spigen case will fit. I have the Spigen Ultra Hybrid case.

Looks like a good product from just viewing it.

However, I note that that advert does not include the charging pad.

For a cheaper price at $18.99 I bought this one which does come with the Qi Pad and it works. No need to buy a separate Qi charging pad.
