Wireless internet via Droid?

Roadblock

Well-Known Member
My wife has a bone stock Droid.. Nothings rooteded, modded or anything. Can she use it to get online on her laptop?

I know with my EVO, I had to root it to get wireless without paying $30 a month extra.

She just has the $30 a month unlimited data.

Does that work or will I have to do pdanet/easy tether or a wifi hack on the phone for her? She is leaving today for a trip and seems to think its just going to work because the phone says wifi on it.

Droid has no built in wifi tethering. You need root for that. You can get wired tethering (through the USB cable) or bluetooth (very slow) with apps.

Any form of tethering with the Droid is a breach of contract unless you have a wireless broadband (not smartphone) plan.

Use at your own risk.

FYI. PDA net is by USB cable. I think there is a cheaper program that does the same thing, called Easytether.

PdaNet has a free version also for http connections... https requires the paid app.
just root that puppy and get wifi tether from google :)

I use the free version of PDAnet and tether via bluetooth DUN. As long as your laptop has bluetooth this works great.

My Droid is stock 2.1, no root.
