Root Would it be easier to wait for Gingerbread?

Soo Im rooted. I tried installing the update but it failed. Im pretty sure if I unroot or maybe take off the theme Im at it will work. But does it take it all away? How hard and how much time would it take to put it back the way I wanted it. ORRRR should I just wait till Gingerbread since this is only a "minor update"?

Well, it's very easy to do if you have the right directions and understand what you are doing. It's easy to go back to regular android 2.2 (froyo) and it's easy to update to 2.2.1. You need to make your decision and ask which you want to do and folks will be glad to you help you through either way.

Some people are having issues rooting after the update (ekyle for example), but most aren't. If your phone is running fine with no issues and feel like keeping it as is, well you are perfectly welcome to do that. Just know that updating to gingerbread (if we get it) won't be possible on the version you are currently on. You will have to go back and update to the current kernel.

So it's just a question of when do you want to update to it... now, or later? The choice is completely up to you.

The other thing to think about as well is a lot of the developers are not going to support anything but the new update as well. So if you are happy with what you have and are not going to be looking to try the newest thing out there then you are fine to stay where you are at. But if you want to try the newer ROMs and themes that will be coming out than you would need to get the update.

Frankly, I am extremely pleased with this latest update. My phone is far smoother, quicker, and the random reboots I was experiencing are gone completely.

A lot of people are dismissing this update as minor and not worth it. There's some validity to that if you are experiencing zero problems, but I am a very happy 2.2.1 user and think it was a very worthy update.

Also, "waiting for Gingerbread" really isn't a good way to approach this since we have no idea when or if Gingerbread will be pushed to the Droid X. Given the timelines involved, there's a good chance we'll get it - but that shouldn't be taken into account here. Either you're very happy with 2.2 and have no problems at all, or you should update to 2.2.1. Frankly, I had very few problems before, but I have even fewer problems now, so I say go for it.

Also, with the two SBF files released, it's pretty easy to update. Back up your apps, install the full 2.3.320 SBF, then install the /system 2.3.340 SBF, and boom, you're on 2.2.1. Reinstall your apps at your leisure.
