Wow! So Many Unhappy Bionic Owners

I bought the Bionic because on paper, it had everything that I wanted.

I bought it last week KNOWING that samsung and motorola was going to bring out something better but I didn't care.

I loved this phone, it was almost a perfect phone. I said almost because the camera sucked really bad but I was going to just put up with it. I did experience the dropped 3g/4g connections but that wasn't that big of a deal.

The reason that I am returning the phone is because my phone is a brick now. The phone locked up on me earlier today and now it won't boot right. It get locks up on the LTE screen. I pulled out the battery and tried to reset it many times but still the same problem.

After doing some research on it, this seems to be a known problem and I don't want to take a chance with it hopping Motorola will fix it on the next update. I did this with my last phone, the samsung captivate. The phone randomly resets, gps never work, yahoo mail don't work and other minor issues. Samsung promised to fix these issues but never did.

It is sad because I really liked this phone. I am just going to go back to ATT since I still have my unlimited data plan from them. Going to just wait for the Samsung Nexus next month.

I know most of you won't care but it helps to vent.

If you really like the feel for the Motorola UI and what not....just grab the Razr...

Or better yet, stay with Verizon and get the nexus from VZW and keep the awesome LTE.
Also, have you tried fastbooting to unbrick your phone? The bionic is hard to totally brick.

Oh btw ..i do care. :)

Edit - i just noticed...if you dont have unlimited data with vzw then yes i would go back to att. Its just not economical.

Im almost positive that whatever software changes they make for the razr is the same update the bionic is gonna get in November. So a stock bionic and razr will probably perform the same with a slight edge to the bionic on batt life because of the type of screen the bionic has. Only thing i can think of that may make a difference is that the razr has a newer battery type that is better than the bionics.

They did the same thing when they updated the D3. The update for the D3 came right around the release of the bionic.

So if anyone thinks that the razr has an edge on updates over the bionic, i think thats a false assumption.

I can't say that I ever remember seeing so many people unhappy with a phone purchase in such a short time. I am not unhappy at all with the Bionic, itself. Sure I get the data droppings ;)(pun intended) but I don't think that is exclusive to the Bionic. I understand that several other phones drop data service when these outages occur.
I can't say that I am unhappy with the camera, but then I don't take a lot of photos, and it is fine for the occasional snapshot here and there.
The screen isn't the best one out there, but I am not willing to compromise by settling for a Samsung, just to get the best screen. Just not worth the Samsung hassle! I also don't feel that the screen is as bad as some people seem to think it is.
I can't honestly think of anything about the Bionic that is so bad that I would be willing to trade it out for something else. I actually feel like I got just the phone that I was expecting, but then, I did a lot of research in the months leading up to it's release. I knew what to expect.
I am also not one that believes that the next big phone released will be "the perfect phone" since that isn't a very realistic expectation.
They all have bugs, and issues that have to be worked out, or worked around, or just plain accepted.
Anyway, I like my Bionic just fine, and I think I'll keep it for awhile.:)

Im getting mine from the classifieds here. Im not thinking ill regret it, a lot of people here seem happy with it. And I was aware of the new phones :) ill proably snatch another onne up from an unhappy bionic owner if I like it enough :)

Not sure if i can say i am surprised. I was expecting this with so many devices coming out soon. All i know is that all the bionic lovers shouldnt take it personally. I would still recommend this phone to anyone but the bionics value did drop so people should shop accordingly. However it doesnt make it obsolete.

This is the circle of life of smartphones nowadays.:) People buy a phone at launch then sell it after a newer phone comes out then a new owner gets that phone. Usually the person buying it from the original owner is happier with the device. The kicker with the bionic is...the buyer essentially buying a new phone rather than one that has been used for several months. I think that's great!

I'm an OG Droid owner who just upgraded to the Bionic. While I don't think we'll see as many custom ROMs for the Bionic as we did the first Droid, I'm more than happy with mine. My wife has a Droid 3 (she needs the keyboard) so I guess it's safe to say we're Droid loyal.

Smart phones come out pretty much every week. Anyone who has to have the latest all the time is going to get very frustrated because you can't keep up. At some point, you have to pick one.

I'm happy with my Bionic so far. I've had data drop exactly once so far.

The screen is a lot better than my OG Droid, so I'm not exactly whining because it isn't "the best" out there. I'm happy with it.

I do miss the physical keyboard, and I knew I would but Verizon didn't have any 4G Android phones with physical keyboards when I went looking to upgrade. I do like the bigger screen a lot, which partially makes up for it. I could have gone Droid 3 but I would have had to settle for 3G and a smaller screen.

My biggest disappointment so far is that the weptop software doesn't work while rooted (at least not with the lapdock) and Cisco AnyConnect VPN software requires rooting, making the lapdock unusable for doing SSH via AnyConnect. I'm hoping that that will be corrected.

Thank god. I was seriously beginning to lose hope in people because of all the whining and complaint they did. I absolutely love this phone. It is so fast and everything responds right away. I came from an original DROID and that thing used to annoy me when it lagged. I don't understand why people don't like the screen either, unless you touch your nose to it and stare at it, you can't really see the pixels and all and the way it is designed makes everything look brighter and clearer. And for the battery life: I work outside pushing carts for about 8 hour shifts 4 days a week. I listen to slacker radio for about 7.5 hours of my job. My battery lasts the whole shift and ends at about 20 percent. For streaming constantly for almost 8 hours I think that is pretty damn good. And the connection problems have never really bothered me. I just flip airplane mode on and off and wait 15 seconds for it to reconnect and im golden and it only took like 30 seconds max. In my opinion people bitch and complain just cause everything isn't perfect and they want it their way. Well the world isn't fair so you have to learn to deal with it. I used my hard earned money that I bled for to get (literally, never get you hand caught between 2 moving carts lol) to biy this phone and I will keep it until we get phones with holographic displays because that is the only upgrade that I deem worthy of buying at this point. :)

But the Bionic will not drop in price until the Razr is out for about a month maybe two. So why spend 299 for the Bionic when I can get the razr for the same price and a new/better phone.

I'm gonna go ahead and beat that dead horse, but that's always been the case and always will. When the RAZR comes out, you're going to pay $300 and a month later a better phone is going to be announced. Might even be from Motorola.

I hope you are happy with it.

Me?

I am 100% happy with my Bionic and would never change for the RAZR.

The AMOLED screen and 4G combo will drain battery FAST, AMOLED drains a lot more than the Bionic. And the fact you cannot pull the battery, which kills it for Rooting purposes, and if it has a similar BSOD that the Bionic has you will not be able to do a battery pull to fix it... So, exchange it every time it happens?

.200 MHz will mean nothing in real world tests, the phone is already liquid smooth.

Also, no extended battery, the battery life should be worse than the normal Bionic on the standard battery due to the battery hog of a screen.

Overall I am very happy with my phone.

this. theres nothing in the razr's specs that make me want to upgrade to it. now the galaxy nexus with a 4.65" 720P screen would make me want to upgrade. but all in all im happy with my phone. its extremely fast nothing coming out in the next few months is gonna absolutely blow it away.

Why spend $299 on any phone? You dont have to buy it at verizon unless you are using an early upgrade. Theres a lot of different alternatives.

i love this phone. i knew the others were about to be released, but when the bionic released, i just decided that i was tired of waiting. and now that the nexus and razr have been publicly revealed, i'm not sorry at all. nexus, only built in storage, no ability to remove/swap sd cards, not for me. razr, no removable battery, not for me. and as for htc, i live in rural america and their phone radios just aren't as good at picking up phone calls/signals, so not for me. i'm just pleased as punch.

Yea. I upgraded to the Bionic cause I was getting "bored" with the DX.
But every device has pros and cons. I myself have had NO issues with the screen itself....

IMHO, most of the complaining you're hearing is from the vocal minority. I went from an original Droid to the Bionic, and I absolutely LOVE the phone. I have ZERO issues with the display or data connection, and the thing just screams on 4G. Would I like custom kernels and overclocking? Sure- but as long as I'm rooted and able to disable the bloatware, I'm good for now.

A lot of the complaining lately is about how the phone is already obsolete with the releases of the RAZR and Galaxy Nexus, but how can anybody be surprised by this? Sure, if I were to buy a phone today it would be the Nexus, but that'll soon be replaced by the next big thing a few months later. At some point you have to draw a line in the sand and pull the trigger on the best phone at any particular time. That's what I did with the Bionic, and I don't regret it for a minute.

Just poking around to see what's new and saw this thread. I'll add my voice only to prove that not all of us are unhappy. I bought mine on release, moving from a OG Droid (which I got $90 for on EBay) and I too love it. We just got 4G in the area today officially though it's been up 3 days now and I see little or no change. Normally, like most, I would not post I'm happy, too busy enjoying the phone.

If people are unhappy about their device being trumped a few months later, that will mean perpetual unhappiness ;)

Still, the way the Bionic has been handled since conception is what may be the reason for some discontent and the window for being trumped this time was TIGHT!

Bionic ain't even cold yet.

Sure, I have data dropping (update to fix that hopefully) and the BSOD once a day (again, update maybe?), other than that I'm perfectly happy with this phone. I went from a LG Scoop to the Droid Eris (what a piece) so I can totally say the Bionic is a HUGE upgrade from what I had. I'm not ready to dump it quite yet.

If the data drop issue is fixed with the "early November update" then I'll be 100% satisfied with the Bionic. I bought mine the day after they went on sale at Costco, and got their accessory bundle.

I also came from an OG Droid (rooted and overclocked) that was becoming more & more temperamental as time went on. It was just getting to the point where it was unreliable.

I'm satisfied with the Bionic screen. Honestly, it looks fine to me. I played with a Droid working demo for about 20 minutes at the Verizon store to make sure I was going to be happy with it before heading over to Costco to make my purchase.

The camera has not been an issue for me. I am an amateur photographer and usually have a digital SLR close at hand if I'm going to be taking pictures. The phone on this camera works fine in a pinch-much better than what was on the OG droid, even after the software fix.

I purchased two extended batteries through Verizons web site, so I have no complaints with the battery life of this phone.

You are doing the same thing as the vocal minority on this one ... it hasn't been "trumped" there is another phone announced with some added features and some subtracted features. When will it be released?

If it was here today wouldn't it have the same 3G/4G data outage problems the Bionic had over the last week?

I think the Bionic will remain the workhorse and the Razr will be the show pony.

I came from the Droid X and waited three months for the Bionic release. I got the first one sold in this town. I thought then it was the new cornerstone for Android (the way the Droid X was in the past). I think it is still true.

... Thom
