xScope, a multitouch pinch zoom browser

I just downloaded it and I love it! I saw your post where you said icons are a very low priority and I completely agree with you. But I don't think that the users who just downloaded it agree. Creating a little more stylish icons and the like, I think, would greatly influence people's opinions about the app. It's one of those things where the geekier (pardon for calling some of us geeks) appreciate what it can do more than how it looks but there are a lot of people who want it to LOOK nice and then see what it can actually do.

So I guess what I'm saying is I love the browser. I agree that, in theory, looks should not be a high priority however, when trying to make the app appeal to the masses, it should be taken into account.

Never tried it yet (1.5 Hero), but followed the thread closely. Just a thought tho, would adding the file browser bring more "baggage" to the internet browser aspect? I have no idea how you have implemented it having not used it, but just a thought. Ever thought about removing that from the broswer into a standalone app, maybe turn it into an "XScope Apps" Group of apps or something. For me anyway, multiple lightweight apps would be preferable over 1 app that does lots of different things.

cadon, thanks for the nice word :)
I am still researching on this. In software business, you either know it so that it is 1 minute's task or not so it takes forever to discover it. Hope some one could give a hint. The permission setting didn't work. There must be more. But I am on it...
All I can say is OMG, this new version is more amazing than the others. You are never ceasing to amaze. I love the new little page flip looking thing on the side that opens a nice menu.

Is there any chance to get the gps part activated or permission-ed or whatever its called. That is the only thing stopping me from using this browser for stuff like sigalert.com. Otherwise this is freaking awesome.

Thanks ! It is very inspiring to see from user's perspective
It has been great watching xScope evolve and the new release is fantastic. The interaction on this forum with the developer is second to none. I just took the plunge and purchased it. Money well spent. I can't wait to see what surprises are coming in 5.0...

Yes. I also found several other problems related to intent handling. I will fix them. They are technically easy.
This is turning out into a whole OS!...not just a browser

Just tried going to m.nbc.com to view some episodes. For some reason, it would load the html page before the video halfway and then stop, requiring a kill by advanced Task manager.

Works fine from default browser...once I click on the episode....I get the option to view it in gallery and then launches the gallery.

Some more fine tuning of the intents?

Keep up the good work

Totally agree. Now it's time to change. I am browsing "warriorforum.com" now...

1.5 SDK doesn't support multitouch natively. So I am thinking how to release versions for 1.5.
A browser is simply a viewer. Functions, like adding files browsing capability and task viewer won't add baggage in terms of performance but they do occupy a little more space. The app executable is larger mostly because of new graphics (icons). The most formidable barrier is still the network itself. Usually if I see my browser is slow (either default one or xScope), I found my 3G network is actually showing 1x. The main reason xScope is slightly faster is because it doesn't take pictures of each website visited and doesn't perform lots of SQL lite queries (default browser has those so does other default browser's cousins). At programming level, xScope is designed and coded from scratch without borrowing heavily from the default. This is the main reason it is weak to handles complicated situations. Those weakness will be overcome in the progressive releases in the future.

But didn't you say that the next major update (which you said will be out soon, hopefully by this weekend) will support 1.5? Or is that not true?

Just downloaded the full version.

All I can say is; fabulous. I look forward to this product's evolution (not that it isn't working perfectly now).

Keep up the great work.

Hello Guys! I want to test and buy xScope browser but i can't find the app in the Market, i've tried all "zoom browser" "xScope" "xScope browser", is there any way to get this apk? Thanks!

Could be that it does not support your current device / operating system. I just did a search of "xscope" and it came up fine. The market generally only displays supported apps.

I think is because my curent location, Romania doesn't support paid apps. Is anybody that can post the free lite xScope version apk? Thanks!

It's probably a coincidence BUT this morning I updated the paid version. Worked fine. Also updated 4 other apps at the Market. Re-booted, by turning Droid off. Now I cannot get the Droid to turn back on. Stuck on the Motorola symbol. Battery pulls, hard, factory resets, calls to Verizon - no help. I'm on my way to the factory store to get a refurb. I don't know why this happened but since I just updated to the latest xscope this morning, I thought I would share this with all... In case it is not a coincidence. Steve

The test would be to try re-booting after the latest update.

I used the update for 10 or 15 minutes after I downloaded it and it worked great.

Now looks like my baby is BRICKED! I don't want a refurb! But I'm outside of the 30 day window! Ahhh!

Sorry your phone was bricked. I've rebooted mine several times since the 4.0 update (and did it a couple more times just now after reading your post just to double-check) and have had no problems. Perhaps it's the interplay of the 4 apps that were just updated or some freak occurrence?

Thanks for checking that. I'm baffled. Fortunately it's a Saturday and there's a factory store near where I'm heading today anyway. I just hope the refurb doesn't come with it's own problems.

One more feature! xScope can brick your phone :)

Seriously, I am sorry to hear that. xScope can only be called running when you click on it, which means that it doesn't even get any chance to execute before your system is up running. It DOES NOT modify any of your system settings. xScope is cleanly coded without any attempt to perform any kind of sneaky data collecting functions which might be useful for advertisement supported apps.

Regarding apps on the market, I have to say, as a developer, people, just be very cautious about the apps you are trying to install. See the permissions asked by apps carefully. You may find that some web browser may try to read your phone state (ever wondered why???). On the other hand, good example will be the famous AK Notepad, only storage permission asked and it makes lots of sense. I can guarantee you guys here: xScope, no matter what version you use, is not collecting and selling any of your personal data. It is just a tool so that you are in control to browse web, files, or tasks.

BTW, maybe you can try to open the battery cover, pull it out and put it back on to try.

I also break the cardinal Android rule - I get carried away and install / update too many programs at once. Then when things go wrong, I have no idea which is the culprit. For me, the latest release of Pandahome caused a bunch of problems, resolving when reverting back to a previous release.

One more problem with 4.0 - when I have xScope set as my default browser the app "My Version" which calls up xScope always results in a forced close (tried reinstalling and rebooting my Droid by no luck).

Shrink,
This is related to https webs. I will fix this very soon. One question: will you guys be annoyed if it updates too often (like every 2 or 3 days?)
I have fixed several problems now but I am not sure if I upload it.
Thanks

To be honest I am down with you updating it everyday even. I am more than willing to even beta test for you. I have been so in love with this browser since I first found out about it. I started on the lite version to see what it was about then went to the paid version in a matter of days when I knew this was something great.
