You and about a thousand which they could. The answer for now is No. Go to EVO 4G Android Development - xda-developers, when the day comes you will find it here about how to root your 2.2. But for now sorry. Solid answer for anyone who comes on today NOOOOO!!!!!. I feel funny inside now. But who knows maybe by this afternoon it might be rooted.

thanks.. i just see links saying you can root or something with the newer version 3.26.651.6 and i havent rooted yet and want to be sure..

thanks again!

If you hadn't installed the update, you can get a modified rom now that would keep your root and still get you the update, just be patient next time.

Well 2.2 for the htc desire has found a workaround today well actually about one hour ago. That's good news since they are the same hboot 0.92 back to 0.80 . I'm looking into it. Very eager i am seeing if i can find the way it was signed. Seems they just changed the android-info.txt and that's all. Its not really root but a way to downgrade the hboot and 2.1 so then they can root. Same thing to be honest. Oh i am getting happy.

Interesting. I wonder if the OTA wipes out the engineering bootloader. I suspect it does. But maybe it's worth a check? Boot into the bootloader and see if you still have the androids on skateboards at the bottom. If you do, you can fully root your evo manually. If not... then you have to wait for a 2.2 root exploit.

for reference in addition to what novox said, 0.76 is the engineering bootloader that lets you know its fully rooted. In eclair, the 0.79 build was the one that let you know it wasnt fully rooted, dont know if its different in stock froyo
