Isn't it ironic how we were all anxiously waiting for the update, and after reading this its like hmmm not sure if i wanna take it right away then, or at least until the dev's figure out a work around for this....

Lol!! Agreed.. I'm just gonna flash it on my wifes and be done with it. I got the leak with no locked bootloader and I'm all good ;-)

Blah, the pc update tool says up to date, so it must not be out there yet. Oh well, it was worth a shot.....Time to play the waiting game. :smokingsomb:

I still don't know if I want the OTA. The leak has been working so well for me that an OTA won't do me any good. Everything I use daily is working fine for me and I have root access. I am waiting for reports of others once the OTA is released to see if they have any benefit.

Yup I'll keep the leak and have root access being able to uninstall any bloatware necessary. I don't see any difference between the leak and promised update perks. I might go to the store and check performance of the phone. Mine tends to lag from time to time.

Well the update should have everything working where as the leak has some problems

Going to repeat this in this thread. The ICS update contains a locked bootloader. That means no willy nilly flashing of custom roms or presumably rooting.

Best to let the devs see if they can make a CWM flashable version of the update.

IS this 100 percent verified? Just because the leak versions were locked doesnt mean the official version will be. Of course I'm probably wrong but I was just curious if this has been verified 100 percent.

We found references in the leaks (an update script) that after the phone installs ICS, on the 1st boot it flashes the bootchain (bootloader) with the new locked down versions.

So I'd say confirmed.

So I wonder if it will check if this happened after it boots?

I can say its confirmed locked.....
fota_post_boot_up.sh

Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
dd if=/system/etc/sbl1.mbn of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2
dd if=/system/etc/sbl2.mbn of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3
dd if=/system/etc/sbl3.mbn of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6
dd if=/system/etc/tz.mbn of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p9
dd if=/system/etc/rpm.mbn of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5

Flashes the bootchain on 1st boot.

dd if=/system/etc/tz.mbn of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p9
dd if=/system/etc/rpm.mbn of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5

Flashes the bootchain on 1st boot.

So what are the chances one of those could be replaced with /dev/null ?

dd if=/system/etc/rpm.mbn of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5

Flashes the bootchain on 1st boot.

Weak shit...hey was the bootloader locked on ally d2a? I dont think it was, but could be wrong. Now, more importantly man, how difficult do you think it will be to work around?

i seriously dont care if the bootloader is locked and we dont get any custom roms,kernel,ect.... as long as i get the official ics update and everything is working pecfect..

btw if you just want to root it to freeze the bloatware you can do it without having to root the phone, all you need to do is go into your settings then apps then go to which ever app you want to freeze and there should be a disable button, its the same thing as freezing

its a ICS Feature

Do you know the meaning of "perfect" ??? (Or even "good enough")
I'll bet neither LG nor Verizon does...

Not meaning to be rude to you specifically, it is just how the saying goes.

I for one will make sure my phone will fail any automatic upgrade attempts for now.

I don't believe the ally was, it only made it to 2.2 and should have made it to 2.3 I had it for a short while ;-)

what i meant was better than gb and better than the leak
well it took them what 5 month to test the ics, it better be better than the leak

Lol u just copied and pasted that from the other thread but I can't live without having roms as a option ;-)

But I like the additional info you put in this thread. I still don't want a locked boot loader. And I can't get the leak to work still. I be installed it over v3, v4, v6, Holo, black plague, ginger cream, and even flash it over itself (many times). I've tried removing the apps that force close immediately after boot up. I've added update script lines to first cache, data, and system (the unmodified one only formats system and delete recursive on cache and data).

Nothing stops the infinite boot loop that occurs within 150 seconds after the lock screen appears. (Averages about 25 and is often only up for 5 seconds before rebooting). Same deal on the debloated too. I think I've tried over a hundred times in the last few days.

So I'd say confirmed.

Not sure if this is possible but couldn't someone take the update and "simply" disable the script that locks the bootloader? You would get the update with full kernel and debugging but still have an open bootloader.
Also does a locked bootloader mean that we should not expect any more updates or future android versions?
